I was wondering I know there might be a few people asking this but why is the TES:Online not coming out on consoles? and would it ever come out on consoles? because i have it for Xbox but because my laptop cant really play a game of that size (also dont have money for a computer) granted it would be difficult and would take a long time but I think the consoles are being left out on this experience big time.
Microsoft doesn't really like MMOs on their console, they have a very tight control over the Xbox Live network and don't really want to loosen it up. They did make an exception for FF11 years ago, but it wasn't a hit so I doubt they will do it again anytime soon. Zenimax could probably convince Microsoft to do an exception for them too with an army of lawyers, but why bother? It would probably just be a waste of resources. Because the main reason is simply that it's easier to maintain the PC version and deal with the patches and so on, much less hassle. Not to mention they are generally very much designed to be controlled by a mouse and keyboard. It is a PC game at heart, and if it was ported to the consoles it would probably just be a lackluster inferior console port.

PC/Mac exclusive, but don't worry. I forsee multiplayer being the new direction of the series. I'll be shocked if ES VI does not have multiplayer.
It's not a new direction, there been 2 multiplayer TES games in the past. But they never been a part of the main series. If you belive TES6 will have multiplayer, then prepare to be shocked.

I 100% believe ES VI will have some sort of online component. Whether it's just simple Co op, or something more in depth, I don't know. After TESO the precedent will be set, regardless if Zenimax is doing it and not BGS. They'll be an expectation. On top of that, online gaming really blew up this generation. It's only going to get bigger with the next generation of consoles and PC. Like I said in the other thread, I forsee BGS growing in staff like they do each project, and they'll most certainly add some people with online experience.

As soon as they put software on a console they are limited by it. I appreciate consoles and understand the benefits of them, but for the love of Talos are they the Achillies Heel of the industry at the moment.

DC Universe just shows why console MMOs don't work. For one thing, lazy developers don't want to do 2 interfaces, so PC users often get stuck with the consolized versions of UIs. And trust me, DCU's UI is complete and utter [censored] for PC.

Secondly, the console market isnt really there for MMOs. Most console only players are playing the twitch based games and are not really willing to sit for hours questing and grinding that MMOs often demand.

The core TES games will be developed by BethesdaGS, and they have no intention of adding in any form of multiplayer. TESO is just a spin-off of the franchise and does not reflect the direction of the series.

Now that we are getting TESO Beth does not have to and will not add multiplayer to TES single player games, we will have our multiplayer TES and Beth will continue TES game as they have all this time.

For the OP, its because consoles are just too under powered and behind the times, lack of ram would be the single biggest problem, just to start off with. By the time an MMO developed for consoles finally released the next generation of that console would already be out and the game would be old before release.

Highly doubtful, which speaks to why ESO has been so incredibly WoW-washed into a typical MMO. 18% of the TES audience are PC users, so they are looking to fill the other 82% with MMO players. That's a BIG hole to fill. I have doubts.

It would really be a waste of time for Bethesda to make the game for current generation of consoles. I expect to see the new consoles out by the end of next year. I am hoping that TES VI does not have a multiplayer component.

I'm on my iPod so quoting you and only keeping that part would be a mission, Fredo, but MS is letting another MMO happen. As of now, anyway.

The team at Undead Labs is working on a zombie survival one for the 360.

Around 2005 BGS grew considerably so they'd be able to maintain staggered development of two major titles (initially Oblivion and FO3). That was seven years ago and I'm not aware of any considerable growth since then.

As for a multiplayer TES VI, I think that's quite unlikely, but either way it's something that should be discussed http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1366657-non-mmo-tes-multiplayerco-op-thread/, not here in the TESO forums.

18% of the TES audience are PC users, so they are looking to fill the other 82% with MMO players. That's a BIG hole to fill. I have doubts.

Skyrim has reportedly sold 2.2m packaged retail PC copies to date, and likely at least the same or perhaps a greater number of digital download PC copies. (Digital download sales are not disclosed.)

This compares favorably with total sales of 3.7m PS3 units and 5.8m Xbox360 units. Certainly it is significantly higher than 18% of the audience, not to mention the fact that as an MMO, Elder Scrolls Online will likely be scalable to run well on weaker desktops and laptops that might not be able to run Skyrim at native resolution, for example.

As Freddo mentioned above, it certainly doesn't seem likely that we will see any new MMOs running on consoles during this product cycle, but who knows, perhaps the next generation of consoles will be better equipped to handle this type of game.

Not quite sure it's already 15m, but at least http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=Skyrim. That is excluding digital sales I think.

False. DCUO sales on the PS3 are equal to the PC. The game doesn't even exist on the XBOX< if it did, both consoles combined >>>> PC sales.
Consoles have had MMOs since 2002, and some of them lasted for 9+ years, even with small subscriptions.

Additionally, RPGs are HUGE on consoles, and grinding in RPGs is standard practice for many console games especially JRPGs.

MMOS are indeed bigger, much bigger on PCs.

But games like EQOA, FFXI and DCUO show that done right, a console MMO can be a big hit with fans, and DCUO showed, even with casuals, who are the real money for the developers.

That is a shame that won't make it for the xbox, It's a shame since a whole bunch of players are on the xbox and the play station. I know I am not the only one that can't afford to buy a laptop/mac/pc just to play a mmo.

There are also a bunch of people like me who can afford a new PC for an MMO but it's simply not worth the time and effort. I already have a PS3/XBOX. I have a PC that could run this on low in my office, but I don't want to bother gaming in my office upstairs.

In short, I'm too lazy to manage a gaming ready PC and reconfigure my office for both gaming and work.

My consoles are in the "play room" in the house. I've MMO gamed on my consoles for years, I got money. If Bethesda doesn't want my money, I guess that's life.

Which MMOs have you been playing?

The only ones I'm familiar with that run on consoles are DCUO and FF14.

I don't imagine it's a matter of not wanting your money  - rather, there are some significant technical hurdles for running most MMOs on this generation of console hardware.
