Wanted to assure you we're taking comments from you guys very seriously. We're looking into the problems you're reporting and looking for solutions. There's a lot that goes into that, including testing to new fixes to make sure they're not causing greater problems. For that reason, we prefer to hold off on updates until we have something substantive and helpful to share with you guys.

At this very moment, I do have some good news for folks with ATI cards. I'm told that AMD should have new drivers available very soon. Once we're able to test against those, we should have more to share.

Sorry good sir but all this are excuses.... 7 years in development and you bring out the worst case scenario release ever... unplayable to the majority of the people who buy your game
you have to thank all this simple gamers that think and make this custom config files so people can enjoy atleast a little your false release...your company reputation is damaged and it will stay like this for a long time...
im not a flamer or a troll im just a frustrated customer of yours...

Darn it, I must be the only guy who has absolutely NO IDEA on how to do anything to do with this driver stuff, how come every other game I play doesn't require you to have a degree in computing science to use it?

Thanks for taking the time to read the forums and responding to us. I was really hoping the response would have been a message stating a patch/driver update had been released, but am still glad to at least have gotten an official response.

This is where so many of us are. We're trying to be patient and understanding and respectful, but how about a little acknowledgement and apology from Id, huh? All I've heard so far is "While many people are having NO problems with the game...blah blah blah" and "There are just SO MANY pc configs out there it's hard to make sure it works for them all....blah blah blah" and "yes it must be those darn drivers....blah blah blah...." I have no doubt that they are scrambling around trying figure out what went wrong but they're doing it while refusing to man up and take the blame. I know it's the launch of their labor of love and this is their bread and butter and they need to make money and prove to everyone that this is a great game so people will buy it... BUT, if they really respect the PC gaming community as much as we WANT to respect them, they'd give us a statement announcing that they dropped the ball, they messed up, they know this has been a HUGE disappointment and they ARE working feverishly to make it up to us. That's all we want. While I don't know if I'll ever drop $60 on an Id pre-order again, I might still be a fan and supporter of this developer. They just have to give me a reason to. I gave them $60. They gave me a pretty box with a frisbee in it. All I want is to know that YOU (Id) understand where I'm coming from and tell me that you are going to give me the rest of what I paid for. I can be patient. Tell me what's going on. Please.

now, now... lets be fair..you got 3 pretty frisbees :)
I agree with the op, im 26... I have been an avid id fan and supporter for 17 years. I talked several friends into buying this game because I was SURE id would release a stable, usable product and support it... this has not been the case.. all we want is a little communication and support... thats all we ask id. people know a fix is inbound... we just want a time frame, we want to be assured that our $60 bucks isnt a waste.

We can remove Vsync with the video card settings right?

Thank you very much for your support. It's respect and support like this which is one of the pillars of why I am an loyal fan and supporter of Bethesda. Even with this new driver though, there must be an update for those who are oblivious to the idea of driver updates and what not. There are many who don't have the technical savvy of the rest of us and are not keen enough to go visit the forums or Twitter. Those people are left in the dark and are more aggravated than I could ever be. Again, thank you for getting these new drivers out, but it is my strong opinion that we need a solid patch to help everyone. Even with my irate tenancies at the moment, I still have faith that either you (Bethesda) or Id will deliver a fix. Thank you.

Is it possible for them to just patch the game? Or is that a stupid question? Because I am completely confused about installing drivers and things.

Will this new driver thing fix the issue with the game not even starting? As discussed in this post: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1236731-rage-wont-start-error-code-in-description/
Because even seeing a loading screen would be a step forward for me. :(

Oh yay it did! And disabling Catalyst AI fix stuttering!

It's now been 4 days. The ATI Driver fixed many things, but I know for a fact that it does not help everyone. There are many left in the dark, oblivious as to the steps needed to get this game to run. They need a patch. The fact remains that the game still doesn't even look or preform as well as the 360 version, and this game is playing off of machines at least 5 times as fast as a 360. The game its self without tinkering with your PC is fundamentally BROKEN - emphasis on the word broken. This patch is already 4 days late, because again, the full game should have been running stable, and every day that goes by without the patch, I'm going to bump this thread with how many days have gone by without the much needed patch.

Well, I've done everything including the new patch, adding the code that the kind folks hear have figured out, changed to every driver you can think of, including the new one, nothing. I can get to the game itself, but its just the squares, and my key bindings only half work. Not to mention, when i install one of the new drivers, i.e. the one that was linked above, the graphics for all my other games freak out. So as of yet, i can play a square screen and low quality on all my other games, or not be able to load rage at all, and have what I already did. After purchasing every game this co has ever released, and reading that interview with the owner cat, can't help but feel like a cash cow at this point. If someone has a link to something else I didnt mention here that I could try that I missed would be great, keeping in mind I know nothing about what I'm doing, your not alone scott my boy, so baby steps. For all you that know what your doing this is annoying, for people like me and scott, we're like puppies just waiting to be fed, no control over that top shelf where the food is stored ya dig. ANd to all that are on this site trying to help people like me, a great deal of thanks to you all, ID and Bethesda, the only reason your game hasnt been returned is because of the hope these members are giving me with their work, I think theres a few members that earned a free copy of your next game on this site, cause they've been working pretty hard for all of us.

If Id is listening, this is a heartfelt message to them about RAGE.

Id, there are somethings you need to realize about most gamers:

Most gamers aren't going to check twitter feeds to find out what graphics card driver they have to download. Most gamers aren't going to manually input code into the launch options just to get a game running correctly. Most gamers are probably stumped and in the dark. They don't know about all this graphics driver, manual fix BS that some PC gamers including myself know about.

With that said. At the very moment, without those manual fixes, the game is utterly unplayable, and even with said fixes, the game is still buggy, at points broken, and potentially dangerous to run. The game has crashed at least 10 times on me now for no reason. Some quests don't even work without glitching out the game. This is NOT my graphics card driver doing this. This is the game.

As developers, Id has a responsibility to deliver a quality product. I payed over $60, and I received an unfinished product. I have yet to be more disgusted with a port in my life. Congratulations Id, RAGE makes GTA4 seem like a godsend in comparison. As I'm writing this, it is about an hour away from midnight - nearly 3 days since the game was launched. We have heard nothing but complaints about graphics drivers, empty, broken promises, and the occational help from not Id employees, but Nvidia, AMD, and Bethesda moderators. We don't want more of your [censored] manual fixes; we want a patch.

Now many of you may be saying to yourself that a patch to fix all of these issues being released so soon would seem nearly impossible. If you are one of these people, I say one thing: DEAL WITH IT. Like I said, As developers, Id has a responsibility to deliver a quality product and they have failed to do so on the PC end. They should have launched a scaleble, stable, and working game at launch for whoever had a rig that fit the profile, and instead they gave us a nearly unplayable, sloppy port.

This is all coming from a developer who built their success from the support of a giant community of PC gamers - people who believed in what Id was doing, and would always buy their products no matter what. You have single-handedly just said "[censored] you" to each and every one of those people who supported Id from the ground up. Me included. I'm 20 right now, but when I was only 5, I can remember using my allowance to buy the newest installment of Commander Keen, instead of just getting the shareware version or demo of said game. I ordered that game because Commander Keen 4 is still my favorite game of all time - it brought me so much joy that I wanted more, and I wanted to support the company that brought me into gaming. Same goes for Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein. This was back in the mid-1990's where most of these games were still mail order deals, and I was only a young kid, but I still supported Id from the start. And I'm sure many others like myself did the same.

As it stands, this is what PC gamers have received from a cherished and celebrated developer of games that define PC gaming:

-No 64bit executable.
-No graphics options.
-Horrific Pop-in.
-Potentially hazardous instability.
-Screen Tearing and Framerate Issues
-Graphical bugs and artifacts galore.
-Freezing and crashing.
-An unplayable game without manually modifying the game yourself or installing new drivers.

To say that this is a slap in the face is a mere understatement. I am both disgusted and saddened by the lack of quality in this product, and by the way that Id has tried to sidestep the situation by blaming it on drivers and procrastinating on updates. At this point, I have lost most of my faith in this game, this engine, and this developer. If there is not permanent patch or fix by next Tuesday, I am going to refund my purchase, because this is NOT worth the $60+ I spent on it. At this point, anyone who wants a refund, deserves one, and we all deserve an apology from Id because this is inexcusable.

4 days out, game still isn't working.

No feedback to people waiting on whether they are even aware of the freezing issue with the new drivers.

id, just like 90% of all developers out there now, doesn't give a [censored] about PC gamers anymore. The real money is in consoles. PC gamers are just relics of the past to these people. What's sad is this is id... they are supposed to be the effing vanguard of PC games development. The so-called Tech God has just taken a giant dump on all of PC gaming, as far as I see it.

I just register myself to bump this post as well.

Well said OP! I just wonder that why the game isn't tested properly before moving up to the shelf? Don't the developers really test the game on different consoles or PC before selling? If the developers are aware of the bug, why dont just delay the release date until it is playable? Blaming on "many PC players can still play RAGE with perfectly fine" should not be the statement to address this issue, this only enrage us. Tell us what you are currently doing, update us constantly with the patch development on the blog or something, at least we need to know that the developer is aware of the situation instead of posting on how critically acclaimed the game is while we can only sit and wait for a patch for days after days.

Also, if the developers are able to create a patch that include video setting, why dont they do it in the first place before releasing the game? If the developer can put a little more love for PC gamers, I believe you will have their full support in the future.

Welcome. This is a driver release botch, not a problem with the game. its out of the developer's hands so all we can do is wait for ATI/Nvidia to release the correct stuff.

SUBJECT: REFUND

I tried all the suggestions mentioned within these forums and nothing worked. I spent 15+ hours of trial and error and nothing, not even a little bit... I just uninstalled it and I am asking for a refund, I don't know if Steam does that but it's worth a shot. I figure It'll be a long time before they actually get this game fully functional on the pc anyways, probably a couple months, I have no hopes for a magic fix to make it all better. Gotta face the fact that there are many games out there that have been out for months, even years and are still not fully functional and yet we paid the full price ie fallout 3 and new vegas, it took nearly a year to get all the bugs out of Oblivion, Brink was just AWFUL. For the amount of time I spent laboring away at this game, I would accept it for FREE and nothing else, sigh... from this point on I just want my money back and to rid myself of these problems. Tons of new games coming out soon anyways. Booooo! Maybe I'll pick up Rage again in a couple months.. maybe! this was a really REALLY bad experience and I don't think anyone deserves my money after this. I really loath launch day of Skyrim!

For the people that are saying that this game has only been out for 3 days and to give them time to fix it. No, I won't. 3 days was enough. The pc version of this game is a complete travesty. They have had several years to test hardware configurations. And I say that since the developers are specifiably saying/blaming this is a video card/driver issues, don't leave them any room for hardware configuration excuses, ask why couldn't you deal with Nvidea and ATI before hand, because that seems to be the ONLY problem right? That eliminates all other hardware right there. The lack of honesty and lack of care towards pc gamers on the developers part has me completely disgusted, disgusted!!! Farewell developers, Steam probably won't keep you on their systems for long, at least I hope they don't, so I don't have to even look at this game anymore.

If this is not the problem of the game, then why do the almost all the other PC games run just fine? Is this because of the engine they use?
