Beta Testing News

I've never been a fan of closed betas... If you want your game to be noticed, make it available for everyone. Anyone remember Google Wave's closed beta? It failed because there weren't enough people to participate and people had no one to "Wave" with. Much in the same way that there is no-one to fight against in an empty server.

BETA's are not the best thing to have mass publicity on, unless you're really confident in the product. It's that very reason why many developers choose to closed BETA first/only. The other benefit of a closed BETA is a more intimate community to discuss issues with the game, less people for the developers to listen to flapping their gums means issues get heard more clearly without the background noise.

Open BETA's, for many developers, double as a demo and build hype for the game but again, this is only a good thing if the BETA is in a fairly solid state. Many people will defend discovered issues with "it's a beta" but in the many BETA's i've participated in, many issues have found their way onto the retail product and still many beyond the first patch...

And now everyone is arguing..
Arguing is a part of human nature, would be a bi-effect of us getting a brain better used and bigger than that of a fish. Might seem weird, as Einstein said: Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and i'm not sure about the former. which makes you wonder... :P

Anyway, (A?SNFLDNSAGANDG) :D
Humans as a species argue and have more mental disorders than other species because we have the most developed brains on the planet. The more complex the brain is, the more things that can go wrong. And the more things we can develop technologically, the more topics to debate about. ;)
2010.8.16
?you realize HS (HomoSapiens) has lost over 7oz of brain volume in the last 20K years? (from 1500 in Cro Magnon to 1300cc in modern HS)
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/science/article7060327.ece
And overlooking that the female brain is smaller anyway...

fyi HS are not the preeminent intelligent lifeform on earth, much less the galaxy! HS are little more than stoneage entities surrounded by modern technology. Try camping for a week in the wild to see how little you know about survival.

back to beta testing, I tried to see if I ever submitted a DxDiag, for updating it now, having recently improved my system to W7 and a modern gpu; but the profile page just seems to be for changing password.

I thought that if you signed up in the first wave, you were merely entered for a chance to be part of the beta and that it wasn't a guarantee. I signed up while the site was still being put up I think (I remember it was really slow and the stylesheets weren't working properly) and I haven't gotten an e-mail about the beta :(

I do not think a beta should be for players like us we demand to much CRYTEK is to good to need assistance from the community but i am sure they need some network testing and probably a lot of people are going to get in because most console players never even played the first one their is probably going to be a beta for each system. Crytek dose not need to release a beta its not for you guys its for them.

Yeah, I signed up back in June.
But I NEVER received the activation email.
I recently signed up again under another email.
I tried to use the previous email, but the site stated the email was already in use and I needed to activate it.
Probably gonna miss out on the BETA due to all of this...

I've been on tons of Betas, but it always seems to be so hit and miss. I've even worked for EA before in Q&A and its still random as to what Betas i get into or not.

I've missed so many betas over the years, and the ones that I have gained access to have all been disappointments - the Lost Planet 2 beta, for instance. That's why I'm hoping against hope that I'll still be eligible for the Crysis 2 beta, even though I only just signed up. Not only do I want to experience a satisfying beta, but looking at in-game footage of Crysis 2, I can tell that it's going to be awesome.

But I'm not noticing any new emails or announcements since then.
I didnt get Email confirmation about the Beta for Crysis 2, lets be clear, I got an e-mail from EA as i signed up for the Crysis newsletter, it basically said I could get the chace for future Beta's, and offers and the like,

I suspect that this is the E-mail that one or two have mentioned, recieving, and is the bog standard type of thing that you would likely get on sign up.

So yea, I got an E-Mail about Beta's if you want to see it that way, but nothing specific, lets not get confused it was a while ago, the only thing in the pipeline at the mo is for the closed 360 Beta.

Having closed Beta isnt everything we live for there are other things in life, if gamers do whats intended with closed Beta, its very time consuming if done properly, :-)
