Bethesda close to new PS3 and PC DLC

Post » Thu Nov 08, 2012 12:21 pm

Relax people, it's Dragonborn. They just can't say it yet, because apparently the Xbox exclusivity deal lasts a whole year, which expires on the 12th.

Heh? Nice bit of information, dude. Where did you get that? I never thought about the contract being for a time span, not a number of DLCs (2 was always said by the media and everyone else)

Source?

And I hope this is the case. It makes a lot of sense (from Microsofts point of view), for an exclusivity deal to have an extended clause limiting DLC announcements in general for an extended period of time.

what about the High-Res texture pack? it's a free PC DLC on steam

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/607

I was half joking and it wasn't really the point. I use all enhanced texture mods.

Just curious, what issues do the PC users have?

In the vanilla game, a menu system designed for the Xbox controller that dose not lend itself well to the mouse. Low res textures and an aspect ratio that does not take advantage of the average sized monitor (you have to use the console to fix this). We also have the delays in the Creation Kit's patching breaking all our mods and often (but not always) rendering the game unplayable until the mod authors can fix them.

Oh my, should I be a bit worried? As an xbox owner I've been enjoying all of the DLCs, but will I now be deprived of one?

It really bugs me when we're fed scraps like this. It's probably going to bring about a lot of panic and rage over a simple misunderstanding. Make more comprehensive announcements when you're ready to give the information.

I may never know how a PS3 user feels, but I think I'm getting a taste of it.

Millions of players play the 360, so would you rather have a PC focused UI that cause grief to console users, or get a mod...

So is this different content to Dragonborn?

He says "new" content for the PS3/PC. That could mean Dragonborn, since it is technically new. Or, it could be another DLC that they moved up in the schedule.

I am just glad the PS3 folks are getting some more content, what ever it may be.

If a mod can do it, Beth could make two different UIs.
But if they can't, it's actually better to screw over the PC because of mods, you are right (and I am a PC player).

Come on dude, your platform is the last to complain.
I agree with you that new exclusive stuff is a bad idea, no matter when or for what platform. But just wait a bit. As Xbox user you are Bethesda nobility. It's not very likely they will screw you over like they did with the PS3.

You really shouldn't. By saying "new" he isn't implying exclusive content is coming for PS3 and PC only, the only "new" content is referring to can't be anything else than Dragonborn. Just read it as what it actually is, a reassuring announcement for PC and PS3 users, who might get DG as well [I see no technical reason why they could get DB and be deprived of DG].

I might add that at the time of this writing he couldn't be more specific than that because it's part of the deal with M$.

Is there any way you can explain (without going into details) as to why they can't be more specific as to what that content is? I personally don't want another DLC but what has already been released DG/HF and Dragonborn for the PS3.

Maybe the one year contract with Microsoft someone "speculated" about.
If they have a one year contract that is forbidding advertising of DLC apart from Xbox... they can tell us at the 11th or 12th what is going on.

millions also play on PC, so tyhat point is invalid.
The devs could should have made a UI that works on PC and Consoles

That sounds about right, but only time will tell.

I understand that, but it all sounds a bit dodgey to me still. They should really go into more specifics with these, even if they have to delay announcements.

If I had to choose, I'd choose the latter. I don't really see why that needs to be the case though; designing and optimising a UI can't possibly be that complicated (then again, what do I know of UI creation?).

New content huh? I'd so love a 'hardcoe combat' DLC, you know, one that makes combat player-skill-based, that adds locational damage and dodging, that adds directional attacking and blocking, and that makes opponents physically react to getting hit. I would pay 20 for that and yes, I know it's not gonna happen.

To be honest and fair. New content for PC would be Dragonborn. New content for PS3 would be anything/everything from Dawnguard to Dragonborn. The interpretations of such things are kinda vague..

Would be "funny" if the speculated one-year exclusive deal was true and that suddenly the PS3 DLC "problems" are magically solved right on November 12th.

Not to derail the topic, but that would be brilliant. Perhaps something like that new Chivalry game where every strike and block counts.

I don't think they would make content that would be exclusive to PS3 and PC because that would alienate the XBOX users, just like what the PS3 users are going through now. I know it's just a game but I wouldn't imagine it going over well if XBOX got Dragonborn as an exclusive DLC and PS3/PC got some other DLC exclusive... I think they just mean that Dragonborn is coming to PC too and PS3 is getting all 3 DLC's.

Well Pete isn't exactly known for his clarity. Also take into account that not being specific is part of the deal, being anything more specific than "new" might break their contract with MS.

[I am actually surprised he felt the need to tweet that announcement]

I'm skeptical... It would be great to get dawnguard. I have a PS3 and I don't want to get this game on the 360 because The PS3 supports solid state drives. My skyrim experience is far superior compared a non upgraded ps3 or an Xbox 360.
