Consoles And ESO Discussion

I love knowing that I, as a PC only gamer, am going to have Sony and MS deciding my games for me anyway. Feels great.

The PS4 beta exclusive makes no sense by the way, since there's already a PC beta going on right now? They really need to give up more info than this [censored], and very soon.

Um no, but there ARE specific people who have to make sure everything is running on all systems, the new generation has things running similar architecture so it should be less of an issue, but there's still some differences between player and game interaction from PC to consoles, and that will require extra people, or we get defiance, a game with one of the worst UIs I've ever had to deal with.

They are all getting a guaranteed beta, and I dont think xbox is getting one at all. And it's ridiculous how a BETA has become a selling point. It's not a BETA when it's for marketing and it's almost the finished game (which it will be).

Yeh .

The consoles share the same architectures but when Sony / Microsoft start waving huge wads of cash at ZOS for timed exclusives to that new area or dungeon for 1,2,3 months before anyone else has the chance to see or enter them. I wonder if all the other players will feel it to be ok.

How about constant open mics from console players as well ? Or their inability to chat through text due to the soft keyboard ? Imagine trying to RP in game with a console player having to wait 30 minutes while they type a response back.

You are afraid of slow updates. The new business policies of the new consoles will make updates come faster. The fact that the systems all share an architecture will make updates come faster. Then even if they do come too slowly you can patch the pc first and then do the consoles.

Despite all this you throw it to the wind and simply claim that content will be too slow and cost too much.

Complaints about the game becoming more dumbed down are pointless since the game was already dumbed down before the console announcement.

They all have seperate servers, you wont be playing with console players. But if the UI/text chat/voice chat system is super dumed down, defiance style, because of this, I'm instantly leaving the game. If I see a chat box anything less than what WoW has (something i cana ctually decently talk to poeple with), im not even going to waste my time.

It's funny, because we were talking about it costing Zenimax more money than it's worth, but you're too busy not reading my thread to realize that. The updates won't be an issue, even defiance releases the PC updates before everybody else.

Those aren't designers. Those are QA and coders. The exact same design team and even QA and coders could all work on the consoles at the same time as they work on the pc version. It is entirely possible to have different uis for pc and console. Heck FFXIV does this very well.

Wait they have used the same design as Defiance chat ?

Oh no that is one unsociable mmo game due to its lack of chat features.

I literally used a generic term because it's 2:26am and I don't care enough to get into detail about who's getting paid, because it's irrelevant.

It won't cost them more money than it is worth on teh simply fact that the console market is so large and that the ES ip has a strong enough following even on the consoles.

We don't really know how the chat will officially turn out yet...But I don't see how a chat can be anything BUT dumbed down defiance style for consoles, and then they would have to build a PC version from the ground up. And that I fear, is something they wont do. And UI mods SHOULDNT be the answer for everything. But now I know why they did it, because we are going to get a crappy UI because of consoles.

And a tiny MMO fanbase on consoles...

Depends, there hasn't been a good MMO on consoles yet. The MMO market used to be "tiny" on PCs as well.

Oh and since this has been worked on for PC for 6 years I don't imagine them building the chat for consoles first. In fact they probably already have a working PC style chat simply because it has been in beta and alpha for PC. The console chat will probably be the part that is tacked on.

But a *huge* elder scrolls following if the skyrim numbers are to be believed..tens of millions. It might be a worthwhile venture, who knows

They will more than likely adopt a talk to text system. That voxing I think its called is pretty popular among smartphone users now. They are basically leaving voice mail and that is likely an possible idea for these newer consoles.

It's a chance, but when people play it and feel what they are playing, I doubt they will stick around long. An MMO and Skyrim and two vastly different titles. I'm not saying it's not possible, I just don't think this was the right idea. They should have settled the PC version first in my opinion, and release console versions maybe later, before already segregating the community.

Tiny on pcs....what? The first MMO on PCs costed ridiculous money to play on AOL internet and had a ridiculously large following. You're confused, I'm sure of it. And Phantasy Star Online was pretty decent ;)

I agree completely. A lot of players that are not into MMOs will probably have a hard time accepting the flaws that come with MMOs. They will want skyrim physics and a lot of the ideas that we have discussed on here that just lead to griefing. It is totally possible they will get a following but chances are it won't last long and there will be a lot of disappointment from players who have never played an MMO and don't quite understand the limitations that come with them.

Probably would have been the right move, but you know corporations..Bethesda probably wants to build its own white-gold tower out of real precious metals

Defiance is a good example, it's a horrible, horrible game, but it still has a niche of followers on all systems. Not as much as anybody could wish though.

Hahaha, 100k continuous for the first mmos... yeah that is a lot. Even Everquest only ran at 300k. 300k is not tiny persay, but it is tiny compared to the current MMO fanbase.

If you don't think 100k players on an MMO, spending stupid money (more than any wow player now), to play an MMO in the dial up age is a lot, you need to rewire your brain. Everquest came out, dial up was still huge. runescape was and still is ridiculously popular, all through the mass stage of dial up to the mass majority hitting high speed internet in the common household. You need to wake up and realize what was going on during the times with those playerbase numbers. Just like how they adjust movie profits by inflation to compare to current day standards, you need to do the same thing. MMOs have always been huge on computers, not so much on consoles, for various reasons.

Only part of the beta thing that enrages me is the exclusive part. I don't want to see any of this console war garbage in the game anymore than I want to see microtrans ads on my UI. They better do this right.

I know exactly what was going on. Even with broadband and so forth coming in, without WoW essentially innovating the MMOs and opening it to many more players, it wouldn't be anywhere near what it is today. 100k is tiny compared todays 10 millions.

PSO also was not an MMO. If it was, CoD is also an MMO.

Here is the problem I have

1. Unless Zenimax is writing separate code for consoles and pc, then pc version is going to be dumbed down. Both in graphics and gameplay.

2. Zenimax had said from the start that ESO was going to be pc only. Now, before the game is ready for release, they have already lied to us

3. It had been announced that ESO (pc and mac) will release in 2013. Everything in that announcement which includes pc and mac, says release is spring 2014. They did not say this is just for the consoles release date. So Which is Actual Release for pc and mac.?

4. It strange that Zenimax wont tell pc and mac players which quarter the game will release ( if seperate dates from consoles) but they tell console players that the release date is in spring of 2014 (Apr., May or June of 2014). How's that for making pc and max players second class citizens

I hope that Zenimax doesn't ruin the game I had been expecting before it releases. I hate to buy a game to find out we been lied to again by a MMO developer (as was with SWToR)
