Mod Description
----------------------------------------------------------------
This mod is the beginning of what will be a crafting overhaul modification.
I plan to make the crafting materials and equipment designs independent of each-other. Not all Orcish swords are made of orichalcum and not all orichalcum swords are made in Orcish style. I have not yet decided how I will implement these changes, but I have started by changing all of the game's basic longswords to use a similar model with different textures implicating their material make-up instead of racial style. For instance an Ebony longsword isn't a goofy fantasy sword, it's a longsword made of ebony.

This looks like one that will make sense for me to use. I am downloading and testing one mod at a time to see how stable things are. I do intend to try this one in the next day or two.

Here is a copy of the conversation on SkyrimNexus. Hopefully this will avoid any more repeat questions.

So you basically want to remove the variety from the game and replace it with different colored textures?
No. Read the description. I plan to increase variety exponentially.

This looks promising, but what do you plan on doing with the other sword models?
I plan on adding them as separate recipes, as the description states. Orcish style weapons will be their own recipe and will be made of all of the different materials not just orichalcum. Elven weapons will be their own as well, but not limited to moonstone.

I always wonder why in every fantasy game the higher tier items look stupid while the lower tier items look more real.
Same here

Would be awesome to be able to craft any metal weapon/armour mesh with any material and scale the damage/armour according to material choice.
That is the plan eventually. I can't do that without the CK though. Once I have the CK I will start doing that.

Nice mod, great effort.
Thanks

Oh thanks man ! Great idea !
I always thought that the iron sword was the most beautiful sword !
Now i can have a powerfull iron sword <3
Thats the same way I felt!

This is great ! if you need some ideas on sword tipes here i post some links that you might find interesting...

i would realy love to see this sword, in particular in the game...

Thanks for the resources, but I am not very good at modelling.

Apparently you haven't seen the weapons in-game. The different materials do react to light differently. They use different environment maps. The malachite sword has a much more glassy feel to it's lighting, though it isn't clear, but I made it to look like a malachite ingot.

The names will be changed once I have the CK and can change them. :P Current Orcish sword will be named "Orichalcum Longsword" etc.

Remember. This is version 0.10.

Folian
I may do that once the CK is released, but if I do it will mean the recipes will require two separate metals. One for the handle and another for the blade.

Dwarven textures look good on the longsword.

If you can do what you are planning that's nice. But will you also do armor and how will you deal with the light/heavy side of things.
Certain materials obviously are meant to be used for heavy armor and thus should probably reflect this more than the model (though strangely the weapons don't follow this).

Do you intend for all model types of the same material to have identical stats? Also a suggestion if you don't mind, I'd love to see Scimitars variants, instead of just the single one the game has now. The models look pretty good so far, keep it up!

I will also do armour.

heavy/Light will depend on style, not metal. For armour It will be..
Hide/Leather; Light
Studded; Light
Elven; Light
Glass: Light
Scale; Light

Chain(currently called guard/stormcloak); Heavy
Cuirass(currently iron armour); Heavy
Nordic(currently steel armour); Heavy
Dwarven; Heavy
Imperial; Heavy
Plate; Heavy
Ornate Plate; Heavy

Stats will be different depending on style and material. Scimitars will be included. They will be Redguard style. :)

For example, Ebony Longsword will be better than an Iron Elven Sword.

This looks amazing so far. I expect even greater things in the future from this mod. Surprised, would I be, if this does not end up on a large portion of peoples "must have" lists. Can't wait to see your plans come to being with the CK in the near future.

Right now I am working on the steel sword variants. The existing steel sword mesh will be used as the "Nordic Sword" and will be available in all metal types. Unfortunately I cannot add them to the game as separate weapons until I have the CK.

At first glance i wasn't feeling it, but once i read everything you plan and all your post's i think its a novel idea. I hope it turns out really well and becomes one of the "must haves" for crafting/realism.( if done right) Here's to the future eh ! (CK)

cool to hear about scimitars  . I think you're a bit confused about what I was asking though. What I meant was, say you have an Ebony longsword and an Ebony broad sword / Ebony Orcish style sword (or however you intend to do the different material models), will those all have identical stats? IE will all "long swords" made of Ebony have the same stats, just with different models?

You will be able to make Ebony Longsword, Ebony Nordic-Sword, Ebony Elven-Sword, Ebony Dwemer-Sword, Ebony Imperial-Sword, Ebony Scimitar, Ebony Katana, Ebony Orcish-Sword, Ebony Daedric-Sword. The stats will depend mostly on the material. Depending on what options are available in the CK reach, damage, weight and speed will depend on material as well as style choice.

I was thinking, just last night, of doing something very similar to this. I am glad that you are doing it -- this will save me a ton of work.

(There's a glitch on the dwarven sword texture that I've since corrected)
Can you guess which sword is which material? :)

Thanks. I think Im going to finish all of the weapons before starting the armours. It is very time consuming.

I think it would be amazing if each blade style would have slightly different stats so players could customize their equipment to match their play style. But I'm sure that whatever happens I will be ecstatic :) Thanks

Awesome! I've been thinking of requesting a mod like this, but now it looks like I won't have to.

If I can make a suggestions though, I was thinking it would be interesting if the "style" of the armor/weapon actually added special properties in order to make them more unique/interesting. Perhaps things like small buffs or different weight-to-armor rating ratios. For example, elven armor could give a slight magic resistance or orcish armor could give a higher armor rating. I can't think of properties for every style at the moment, but I think it's something worth thinking about.

I think if I make them "come with" enchantment, it will mean that the player cannot enchant them. I'm sure I will make the weight/speed/reach/armour/damage vary, but I don't know if I can do enchantments. Elven style will weigh less than most others, for sure.

Yes! This!

I've been wondering a million times how come no one has done it before. So do you intend on adding all the stat combinations manually, or thinking about writing some piece of code to do it for you? That of course depends a lot on what the CK allows for, but personally I wouldn't even bother adding all the variations in manually, as that would be an insane amount of work to do, especially if you add variations between weapon models.

Now, on the other hand, do you think we could have misc. weapon effects for the weapon types, e.g. critical strike bonus (sword spec), armor reduction bonus (mace spec), or stuff like that? That would really help in identifying each weapon type as unique.
