[RELWIP] Crafting 300

Probably not. I haven't been practicing safe six on the internet or irl recently. I'll try not to be stupid in the future.
Didn't mean to call you stupid. :P

So far just the one sword is available. The rest will be available as separate recipes once we have the CK.

Lol yeah, but it was stupid of me to post a question when I didn't even use the readme lol.

I really look forward to this; this is my favorite mod so far.

I've turned into quite the perfectionist with these swords. Ive been doing them and redoing them for about a week now, lol. Mod may never get complete because I think my girlfriend is going to murder my computer, lol.

You should have bought the new Dell PC with action missiles so it can murder back. >.>

Haha if I may suggest, try setting up a schedule with your free time where you devote a few reasonable hours to work on/update the mod as you see fit, and don't neglect the girlfriend. Will probably save your computer from being murdered, and who knows, it may end up saving you from this fate (note: I'm not bashing Kivan -- just copy/pasting something he said):

I spent over two years working on the Unofficial Oblivion Patch (UOP), Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch (USIP) and Unofficial Official Mods Patch (UOMP), to the detriment of much else. They were a contributing factor to the loss of my spouse*, career, house, vehicle and possibly some sanity... :bonk:

... and I can't wait to get back on it. :)

*It's all good; she came back, and I'm much happier with just her without the rest of it... including the sanity... hah.

As for the mod itself, I'm really looking forward to what kind of shenanigans you're going to pull with the 2H weapons :D

Define reasonable.
Reasonable = ALL OF YOUR WAKING AND SLEEPING HOURS.

Kidding. I'd suggest just a few hours a day. I know that personally any more than that and I get burnt out real quick.

Well, defining reasonable as someone developing/testing something nearly recreationally sounds like 5, 6, or 7 hours a day. Spread out or all in one go. Spread out may be better as it allows for a refreshment or consolidation of ideas.

As a kind-of-unrelated example of idea-consolidation -- when I used to name my new WoW characters, I'd wait until the next day/a night's sleep has been achieved before I played them, because if I didn't like the name, all the fun seemed to drain out of it.

Does she have other interests Baratan? Can you get her to help you with the modding (i.e. share the hobby). Can you talk to her about how to schedule alone time and together time?

Back on topic -- I really like what I'm seeing so far. I also prefer the iron sword retex in vanilla than the vanilla version on the ebony sword I currently have. I haven't enchanted it yet because I can't decide what I want to enchant it with.

I might be getting ahead of myself, but since this is a crafting overhaul do you plan on making it so you can melt down weapons back into ore? Any plans for the armor?

Aa far as I know, he's waiting for the CK to mess with armor because he dabbled in it earlier and it wasn't what he expected it to be.

I think then at some point you're just going to have to tell yourself that you're moving on from what you've completed and that you're satisfied with it, even if it's not 100% true. Kind of like pushing yourself a bit. You could even ask your girlfriend to help you decide at what point that *push* should be (say, after x hours of work on one kind of item).

That happens... and then I finish about 15 more swords and then come-up with a way to improve them... and then have to go back and re-do the rest of them.

I'm studying at a conservatory and this was printed on the inside of my repertoire book this semester I think it's relevant.

Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.

— Ira Glass

I think the takeaway is the weekly deadlines. Since perfection's impossible, work towards specific improvements.

I've discovered a way to implement fantastic looking gemstones into my weapons. Now I start over. Again.

Weekly deadlines sound like a good idea. Even if you get the urge to go through and fix everything, try using it to just make future things even better than before. I mean, with this mod, the point is to add variety and release it -- allow it to be used. The textures and such can always be updated and the like. They're just files -- part of the whole mod you're working on. But if you waylay it for so long that the mod never gets finished, then you've not actually allowed it to be used. Albeit, you've by that point refined things to the point of (as you'll see it) near perfection, no-one will have had the joy of implementing what you've done. Though you will have gained a whole bunch of valuable experience and insight into these things.

Just gotta tell yourself, "I know I want to go and re-do them all... but I've spent quite a bit of time refining them as well, and it'll be a good idea to get started/continue working on other things. I can always go back afterwards."

Not like community members don't think mods will have updates with improvements in the future ;)

There was a very nice mod in the early days of Oblivion where you could craft wolf, deer, troll, and even rat fur armor. I think there might have been plans for ogre and boar leather, as well as something with the minotaurs too. Anyways it was really cool and I hope you include something like it eventually.
Even cooler would be something in the vein of that netch adamantium mod for morrowind. Ebony Wolf armor, orchish troll, Nordic horker, even daedric skeever haha. Charus Netch dwemer even? Anyways just some ideas great work so far.

Aye, I'd definitely agree that this trumps wanting to use gems in crafting (which I admit, I do. They're pretty useless in general, but this would give them a use.) Acknowledging that this would give gems a use, though... Maybe make this one of your final/last endeavors with the one-handed sword stuff and then move on to, say, Daggers, Axes, Maces, Bows or even 2-handed weapons. There's a lot of work cut out for you (I really wish I could help, too :l But I've not the faintest idea where to even start, or if you'd like assistance, for that matter), so leaving yourself at one spot is going to be quite a hinderance.

And to address the selfish point: I want this mod. Really badly. LOL. I'd like to see it get finished ;)
