Crysis 2 available through Steam!

Post » Fri Oct 08, 2010 11:34 am

the moderators in this forums must stop stealing/deleting other people post just because users post info first than they do
if someone make a post with valid info, just confirme it and make it sticky

this has happen to me and i made sure i was the first with the info but my post got deleated
Existing threads are superseded by Announcements from Crytek staff because we want to ensure all available info is in the OP and so that users are sure the information is correct because it comes from Crytek. Nothing personal. Duplicate threads are removed to keep all information central so it's easier to find :)

Pre-Ordered on Steam. Also, just FYI to Crytek, if they screw PC gamers over they're going to seriously learn to regret it. We've shown nearly unwavering obedience and trust in that hardly anyone is downloading the leaked version of Crysis 2.

Also, stop complaining about thread stealing, it's more reliable and they will most definitely be better constructed posts with proper use of grammar and spelling. Plus, it's not like a topic is going to get that many new posts by the time a moderator posts an official thread.

Biggest bugger is that you have to re download the game everytime you format or on every computer you have and steam pretty much kill any lan possibility (account in one place only)

Backup system on Steam (as mentioned before) and if you log onto your account it should automatically download all of your experience and stuff, not to mention Steam already has a feature called Steam Cloud which downloads all profile data onto your computer. Though, I'm not sure what you're talking about with the LAN, and I'm not sure if Crysis 2 even WILL have LAN, regardless if it's on Steam or not.

I've found a couple of issues with the Steam release in Australia.

1. Unlock date on Steam is 2 days after retail release.
2. Price is US$10 extra on AU Steam compared to US Steam.

I also have a question. Will there be any third party DRM (besides the gamesas account requirement for MP) on the Steam version?

yeah and we all should stop complaining about the graphics,if it is a port, if the game is gonna svck ect ect
they are professional programmers and its their job/money on the line so they know better than us yet a lot of us are still complaining about something we haven't seen yet

so much for the stop complaining rant :-/

Well, you'd only have to re download if you were silly enough to not have 2 petitions :P aside from that you just re-install steam on the petition after the format, delete the new steam folder and re-name your old one. Taadaa! all games installed. So much faster than any other method.

Also, you have to install to every new computer anyway, so it's not really an issue. If it is, just use your old hard drive and copy.

For the final point, LAN is dying anyway, and you always had to have multiple copies to play legally.

  1. It is normal, the US release date is 1 day before Europe. Almost all the games from EA and other big fat companies are released that way.
  2. Are you seeing the price in US or AU currency? Also, there are additional taxes applied in your country that makes them increase the price?

Yes. Unfortunately you have to suffer it if you want to play Crysis 2.

they know better than us
If that is true, why they are still doing business with EA?

Because the only other person that has enough money to publish them is Activision, and we wouldn't want that, now would we?

But why unlock a game on Steam 2 days after the retail release date? Also, the prices for AU on Steam are in US$.

Has it actually been confirmed anywhere that there'll be 3rd party DRM other than the gamesas account requirement for MP on Steam (Solidshield, SecuROM, etc)? It's pretty much a given that there'll be a Solidshield activation limit on the retail version so I just want to know if that's also going to apply to the Steam version.

Yeah I will be picking this up on steam when it comes closer to launch time. The multiplayer looks fun.

Can anybody tell me what time of day Steam release products? There was a different demo release scheduled for today it's now 10 am in my timezone and 5 am Eastern time. Seems to me 00:00 either US time or local time would've been the obvious time to release IMO (especially if it's an automated system which I suppose it must be). Do they plan for Steam games to come out later in the day or is this just an example of the famous Valve time?

Pre-Ordered on Steam.

Lucky for me, it's only £30! So I decided to buy it, since it will most likely be expensive in the shops.

For what I understand the demo is not going to be released on Steam but on EA's Crysis 2 demo page.

Anyway, on Steam normally a release is scheduled and launch on the announced date/time unless a problem needs to be fixed (like with L4D2). And of course first come first serve policy, so if you are lucky you get one of the slots to download the game, or you must wait until an slot is available. Yes, millions of people trying to download at the same time. I think the same thing will happen with Crysis 2 demo on March 1.

Sorry if I missed this somewhere, but will Steam have pre-DL available, with a release day patch, or the whole 9gb day of?

Well since Dragon Age 2 got it's demo available on it's own page and Steam; I'm sure the Crysis 2 demo will also be available on Steam hopefully.

Loving the multiplayer....but I had to make a NEW account just to play the demo, this account will not let me log in and its all the correct login info. Hope this problem doesn't conclude in the full game.

I preordered Crysis 2 on amazon.

Can I play it on via my steam account?

Since I really like the steam servers better than gamespy.
