Dawnguard and Future DLC Discussion - Thread #31

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 6:29 am

Hey guys I have been out of the loop for a while (since ESO was announced, I was letting the forum cool down)

Now I come back and it seems everyone is convinced dawnguard is about vampires.

There was some evidence before I left but not enough to determine vampires were the focus. Did I miss something important or has speculation just been growing?

No you didn't miss anything. There is some evidence that vampires will play a part or get some content, but nothing to suggest that they will necessarily be the focus. But, so far, I think that vampires and snow elves seem to be the main leads in terms of story, so they are naturally a subject of speculation.

Ah ok. Thought there had been another leak or something.

I personally hate vampires (for reasons that have nothing at all to do with... recent popular culture) but I think it would be good to expand upon them a bit for the players that do like them.

I would rather have the main focus of the DLC on something more important to current events in skyrim, maybe have vampires end up being an important group behind the scenes? Have it similar to bloodmoon where at the point you realise vampires are involved you can side with or against them.

Well, actually, on the previous thread someone posted some more leaked files from the 1.6 beta. They have a few more vampire animations, and I think there was more Snow Elf and crossbow stuff as well. But nothing that tells us about the relative importance of any of those things.

Personally, I used to enjoy vampire stories quite a bit. Now, I don't pay much attention to them. I didn't find any compelling reason to become a vampire in Skyrim, though I enjoyed the werewolf questline. If Dawnguard makes vampires more compelling either as player options or antagonists, than that is fine with me.

What!? Thats amazing,Can someone post a full list of all those things that were added to DLC01 ??
Here is the list from a post by TERABIT:

Okay, new info about Dawnguard. I've found a lot of new animation entries from DLC in patch 1.6. Key features:
  • Animations of crossbows now moved to folder DLC01.
  • Mounted combat with crossbows.
  • At least one type of crossbows will be unique with unique animation - Dwarven.
  • Child Crying.
  • New dialogue gestures:
    Defensive Hand;
    Hand on Chin;
    Welcome Hand.
  • Coffin Puzzle.
  • Reading of the Elder Scroll.
  • Animation from the trailer of Dawnguard.
  • Scraping tree bark.
  • Transformation in a Vampire Lord!
  • Vampire Lord's kill moves.
  • "Serana holds Vyrthur". Of course Serana and Vyrthur are in-game NPC's (or something like that), but I have not found any mentions of these names in TES Lore.
  • Snow Elf Prince ascension burning.
  • Pour water in a way shrine.
  • Scooping water in a way shrine.
If you know Russian language, you can read Russian translation of the list above on my site - http://www.elderscrolls.net/news/index.php/weblog/dawnguard-16/

Also, here is the full list of the DLC entries:

Yeah, there is a good chance the DLC won't be vampire-centric, but it will include vampire improvements. Franky, I am excited for the vampire things. I could care less about the Snow Prince(unless he was a vampire). But the new animations are great, and the crossbow will be a main weapon for my werewolf Bounty Hunter. If only Bethesda could make vampires so compelling, but the media seemed to molest the concept of vampirism where many people find it overused and boring. I swear the day Stephanie Meye gives her last breath, I will throw a massive party with a bonfire spawned from the flaming Twilight DVD's and novels.

Hmm, with all the Elder Scrolls and Snow Elf stuff it makes me wonder if we'll read the Elder Scroll and 'travel' back in time to witness the world of the Dwemer and Falmer before the disappearance of the Dwemer. That's what I hope anyway and the glowing eyes could not relate to Vampirism but to the burning of the eyes after reading the Elder Scroll. That's what I hope anyway as it'd be a fantastic DLC. Saying that, i'm excited by the prospect of Vampires being worth playing as, I tried to role-play as a Vampire (I was still new to the game and wandering to Solitude (pre-Dragon Born) when I was attacked near Dawnstar (I think) and I had no idea what I'd become, I guess that's one of the pluses of not quite knowing what you're doing.

Well if the Elder Scroll is involved maybe, similar to the main quest, we will go back in time and defeat the Snow Prince or see how they defeated him? Or involve going back in time in some way?

Bethesda was Genious when making Skyrim. They left so many unanswered questions that they could make DLC for this game for another 5 years.

We have

Disapearence of the Dwemer
The Snow Prince
Vampires
Events of Red Moutain
The War with the Thalmor
Deadric Wars
Twilight Seplechur
The Akivari

And im sure there is more...

Honestly the ones i look forward to is a combination of the missing Dwemer, Vampries, and the Snow Elfs (Snow Prince). Then one that has to do with the Great War starting back up after the Civil War is concluded. Then one that deals with Red Moutain, and morrowind being invaded by the Akivari.

Those are the 3 DLC's i would LOVE!

For those who don't know who the Akivari is, there is a book about them somewhere in Skyrim, forgot the name of it. Anyways it mentions that the Akivari will soon invade Tamriel. I'm thinking that they could make it so the Akivari actually caused Red Moutain to errupt so that it gave them easier access to starting there invasion. Seeing as the Dawn rises in the East and Morrowind, and the Akivari are both in Eastern Nirn (Nirn is the Planet) compared to where Skyrim is, then there is a good chance you go to Red Moutain and have to fight the Akivari out of Morrowind, and back to there homeland.

With the Great War part 2 i believe the new land would be Summerset Isle, either as the Stormcloaks, or the Imperials, the only hope to even get close to victory against the Thalmor is to strike first, and strike hard. What better way then to attack the Aldemeri Dominion on there own lands.

And with the missing Dwemer and Snow Elfs, not sure how that would play out as i don't really delve into Dwemer studies (But its quite interesting how much backstory is behind the Dwemer and the Falmer/Snow Elfs. Makes me wonder if Calcelmo will ever make a break threw discovery into where the Dwemer have gone. Can anyone say, "Steam Punk based DLC?"

Not sure how Vampires would tie in with that one, maybe they would fit in better with the events of red moutain.

Screw you! I like Twilight... but could I get an invitation to that party as well. It's not like I want to come to burn the books or movies or anything like that... I just want to meet new people *cough*

I was kidding, that would be one hell of a party. Although I hate how Twilight jacked up people's view of vampires, I do not think they are the worst movies I have ever seen because I have seen some bad ones. They are the worst vampire movies, but in general they are not the worst movies ever.

That's the one real problem I have with vampires as the main focus of a DLC.
I'm afraid that it might seem forced, because their appearance in Skyrim seems almost like an afterthought. I can not remember a single interesting quest that included vampires and the only vampire that I thought was cool is Babette (and my own). Vampires had about as much impact on the game as a cotton ball thrown by a baby - absolutely none. It was nice that they were included but they weren't needed for anything, and becoming one was something I did for the lulz.
So far, we've got practically no story that a dlc could expand upon, not even interesting hints, just lore established prior to Skyrim, so they'd have to start practically from scratch to make it work.

I just hope that they don't do something stupid in an attempt to please everyone. Something like 'oh, we forgot to mention this but the Falmer are actually vampires, and the snow prince is a vampire lord and just tricked the nord, he never died, sorry we didn't tell you earlier, it was supposed to be a surprise'. That'd ruin both vampires and snow elves for me. My personal worst case scenario.

I'm not sure if anyone has said this yet, but I think it would be awesome to be able to be one of those hermit-type vampires, where you could fly around as a vampire lord in your secret wilderness hideaway in the reach or something.
