Is Dawnguard really worth $20?

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 2:39 am

Are you by any chance saying that Dawnguard is a movie?

To me, it's pretty much indistinguishable from a mediocre (B rated) Hollywood flick!
Just a hastily scribbled down scenario, full of flat and uninteresting things (go fetch type quests, retextured old armor, many bugs, etc).
At least make an effort to reinvent the concepts, not just reheat the old and boring thing, retold hundreds of times, from Bram Stoker onward...
And make an effort to deliver a functional, bug free, piece of software!
I'm not saying it's a bad DLC... It's just mediocre!

Well I bought it today , yes I had to deactivate a few mods to play smoothly but I must say this DLC is great :D

The fact that you are chit chatting on the forums, and not playing, is a very significant and revealing fact, undermining your assertions...

There are plenty of people who play video games and chat on the forums at the same time.

Wait, you have to play something constantly to like it? Otherwise you hate it?

What kind of witchcraft logic is that?

Absolutely!
But the fact remains, doing so speaks volumes about how engaging and exciting the game really is...

Put your strawman away, my friend, nobody has spoken a word about any obligation to play constantly.
My words were spoken in a certain context to a certain person, in a longer conversation (over several different threads, and several hours).

Oh these "I'm buying the game later" threats are facinating, I'm sure Bethesda is shocked by this remark...

Same old same old.

People who are disapoointed complain.

People that like it defend.

To answer the question without taking too much of a side: No, Dawnguard is not worth $20, it's probably closer to $10-$15. Here's the thing though, Skyrim is worth a hell of a lot more than $60. Dawnguard is a worthwhile buy, though in the future they will hopefully go with a better pricing model.

I am trying to make up my mind. I was expecting it to be something like $10, since it appears to be around the level of content as Knights of the Nine...
I downloaded it earlier today and discovered it is LOADED with glitches. I have to uninstall it in order to get old stuff working right again.

I don't feel dawnguard is worth it to be honest not when it breaks the vanilla game "random vamp attacks" which is unlikely to be fixed, I'm not gonna be buying the next dlc, just need to complete it on the vamp side and im uninstalling. Which is a shame because the vanilla game is amazing just svcks the dlc doesn't live up to the same standards :(

Hi there Bukee. Do hope you're doin' great!

Oh these "I'm buying the game later" threats are facinating, I'm sure Bethesda is shocked by this remark...

Again, I would be curious to check Dawnguard sales figures on XBOX, PC and eventually PS3, both absolute and relative to what Skyrim sold. Unless, of course, your yourself have seen those figures and would care to share.

Would "People be hatin'" be a southern colloquialism for not giving a peanut bark about vampires? Count me in. From what's avaiable for watch, my impression is that it's somewhat overpriced and at times poorly animated and shabbily modeled. If Dawnguard sales figures aren't already getting the message across, Beth needs to know that at least some of us aren't thrilled by this particular DLC.

Your not getting the point.. Your getting a small DLC compared to what other developer teams can do for a quarter of the price.. And it is mediocre and he simply meant if they gave a expansion pack it would be worth buying.. But its not original.. Its a copy and paste design of vampires in general.. I could easily come up with a story which would be sooo much better than it.. So really you just bought a copy and pasted story, 2 castles, and some quests.. Oh and the armor.. 20 dollars mate..

No, but it's not hard to tell you what you'll see:

The number will be lower and that is perfectly reasonable, afterall the thing only came out a day ago on PC and a month ago on Xbox, that's just not enough time. Also this is an optional add-on, not everybody will install it.

... and there's a misconception that's quite common around here...

This DLC is not just about vampires, heck, I don't care much about vampires either. What I do care about are crossbows and a bow that can blot out the sun. See, there's a bit more to it than that.
