Did Skyrim desrve GOTY?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 8:29 pm

No . . .when you have design flaws as obvious as what is seen with mages, and even melee, I wouldn't call it worthy of GoTY. They could have at least had in depth guilds/other questlines to make up for the incredible lack of combat balance and I'd be happy treating it as an interactive video-game-story. That said, I don't now what game I'd nominate. So maybe Skyrim did deserve it.

i enjoy skyrim, it is a nice game, but doesn't deserve goty.

a game that, IMHO, deseve goty is The Witcher 2...it is way better than skyrim under a lot of aspects, especially storyline and the RPG side of the game... but unfortunatelly CD project is small and doesn't have major publisher to cover their back and bring em up, anyways these Polish guys are so awesome and gave to other "majors" some lessons in "how to do an RPG" with the 1st The Witcher. The Witcher 2 is what an RPG should be...
another game that could be a goty is Batman Arkhan City, this game is awesome.

EDIT:
my sister own an xbox 360 and i played GoW 3 a lot :P
i'm not a fun of that kind of game, but i liked GoW 3 especially in multiplayer (online and offline)

Every MAIN Elder Scrolls won at least one GOTY Reward... Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Oblivion.

I actually was suspecting Skyrim to win it as well and Skyrim did so. So I am not surprised at all.

So did the last Batman and Uncharted. So that's at least 3 series fighting to maintain their GOTY streak.

I think Skyrim deserved it though

Its the game of the year by far for me, it has the most reply value of any game i have played this year or any other year, a great amount of things to do and see, it is an open world that is unbelievable.

I'll be honest I bought the game because of its status as GOTY. I had also heard from friends who use console that it was great. My experience with this genre is limited, I am primarialy a fps or strategy guy.

Skyrim for me is a new form of game and for that reason and its considerable polish it has been a blast. But in all honesty I am disappointed with the depth of character voices and general interaction at this point, I'm afraid to turn in the Elder Scroll in fear I'm going to have nothing left to play for.

Yes Skyrim deserves it's GOTY awards although I wouldn't go crowning Skyrim the Greatest game ever made.

No, I think Deus Ex: Human Revolution deserved that honor. Skyrim is a multiplatform, technical disaster not to mention really nothing special beyond a fun action-adventure sandbox element, in my opinion.

Deus Ex: HR was a great return for that series after the abomination of Deus Ex 2, but if you're dismissing Skyrim as "nothing special", then Deus Ex is just a shooter.

I don`t really understand the question, but if you asking if Skyrim should be Game of The Year, well no, not until we get all the DLC expansions.

I have Morrowind, Oblivion and FallOut 3- All GOTY, but all with the expansions in them.

Deus Ex was a highly atmospheric FPS/RPG hybrid with underlying literary themes commenting on the caveats of transhumanist attainment and the proper role of authority in a civilized world. Skyrim is a sandbox action/RPG hybrid with a lot of dungeons and a pretty sandbox. There really is nothing in Skyrim all that special. It lacks base RPG elements that in essence leave it underwhelming as an RPG, it lacks insightful writing or compelling stories, and its many dungeons and quests are usually just filler. It's a dungeon-crawler that doesn't even function on one of its supposedly-supported platforms all too decently. Deus Ex: HR is a true multiplatform game that knows what it's trying to be and does it really well. Both have great soundtracks. Overall, Deus Ex: HR is a pretty solid game on most fronts (exception being the horrid, yet thankfully rare boss fights) providing a deeper story and message than a large majority of games out there. Skyrim features a bunch of pointless, unfinished features and plenty of pointless filler content with the only thing it does truly well being its sandbox and yes, I'm extremely ticked off at Bethesda for their horrid treatment of those playing on my platform with their pathetic idea of a porting job.

Yes. It deserves GOTY - it is the best game of all time, all nostalgia put aside.

I don't believe anyone mentioned newness or shininess as factors that should influence Game of the Year awards.

2011... I'm looking at the list of games and I'm not impressed. Sure, there are a lot of good games out there but to say that one outshines the rest? Skyrim takes that title.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if a game is GOTY or not.

Yes, considering there was no other game that really came close to being as good this year, no matter how much i believe it to be the worst TES game out of the series.
