Did Skyrim desrve GOTY?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 9:14 pm

Before I say anything else here, a simple yes or no answer with an explanation is all i'd like to read.

please don't war on this thread.

The Spike video game awards thing.

I really think GoW 3 .... FOR ME... was the best game of last year.

why.

1. The amazing gameplay which i think they tightened up from previous versions.

2. the story.. heartbreaking, and hopefull at the same time.

3. the perfect balance between story and gameplay.

4. the dlc

5. if you haven't played online... you're missing a rare occurence in gameplay.

Now I'm also a HUGE Skyrim person.

I understand that you may have never played GoW 3, or even own an xbox.

I LOVE Skyrim, and have had many hours of fun with it, but at the same time have had more fun with GoW3.

I'm only asking if you've had more fun with any other game than Skyrim in 2011.

If so post your GOTY for 2011, and do as I have and point out why you love that game so much.

Honestly, it at least deserved to be nominated, I think everyone can agree on that. As for goty, I think it was well deserved, but I wouldn't be upset if say, Batman won.

I only played maybe four games in 2011 and three of them were MMO's that had been around a while... So, not really qualified to say.

I think they did a pretty good job, FWIW. The engine is polished, and many game elements have been fleshed out well. There are shortcomings, but no one game can do everything all at once.

Nor does it have to in order to deserve an award such as this.

I feel that no game can be GOTY unless it's playable on PS3, Xbox and PC. That said.... no it did not deserve because it was and still is for some unplayable on PS3. I mean just because Beth had good intentions to put out great game doesn't mean that should count.... it should be what is really out on the market not what they hoped it would be...

It was my GOTY.
Other games didn't compare or in the case of 99% of them I just wasn't interested in them.

So you think a game could not be conisdered a classic just because the developers did not want to take the time to port it to one of the two consoles? That's like saying a movie shouldb't be picture of the year just because it wasn't going to be ported to blue ray.

GoW isn't for ps3, so that can't be game of the year, no way.

GoW may be game of the year for xbox players but NOT game of the year over all games. I prefer uncharted.

It's definitely my GOTY, the overall production value, replayability and bang for the buck are superior to all the other games I played.

Obviously not.

It did deserve to be nominated, because it's a truly great game. But no game released with the technical issues of Skyrim deserves to be called the best of anything. Both industry and audience alike seriously need to stop being so forgiving about that. Although even if it worked just fine, Portal 2 would still be the best of 2011.

The technical issues (or as I affectionately call them, "Bethesda Buggies") were clearly not major enough to take away from the enjoyment of the game. It's become somewhat expected that Bethesda's games, due to their size and scope, are going to have a few more bugs at release than your average linear platformer.

People aren't forgiving about it because they feel compelled to be. They forgive it because the game is still amazing, even with the occasional glitch.

I think it should have been GOTY, I didn't have any serious problems with the game until I was super high level, and at that point I really was not playing that character much at all, I was playing another one at the time. Sure, I had a few freezes, but most of my games on the PS3 do that, so it wasn't a big deal to me, I have already learned to live with the freezes. I would also state that the fun factor I've had with Skyrim is equal to that of the fun I've had with Oblivion, FO3 and FO:NV, I still play those games pretty regular. Not so much now that I'm well into SWTOR, but I still love those games. I think they are the best games I own, and the only regret I have is not keeping Uncharted 1 and 2, and then wishing I had bought Uncharted 3. I also love Mass Effect 1 and 2 (only have 2 for ps3, but part 1 was incorporated with 2) and will be getting the third one on the 15th.

So, in all, those games I mentioned are the best games, in my opinion, for the PS3 and I love them all about the same. They are very enjoyable games. I think that Bethesda does a good job in catering to their audience, and they give a lot of support to the modders on the PC to make their games even better than they thought they could be. My only wish is that I wish they put that much support for PS3 and 360 modding, trying harder then they have to break modding into those systems, because we really want to use those mods that PC users have been using for years.

Can you imagine how awesome it would be if Bethesda came out and said, "Look, we want to support modding in all our games, and for all our systems. So here, he's a DLC we managed to make that allows PS3 and 360 users to use mods that our PC users have been enjoying for years, because we really want all of our fans to enjoy these. Oh, and here's the ability to make your own mods so others can enjoy them. Have fun!"

To date, no publisher has done this effectively, and it's sad as hell. I know it has everything to do with money, and that's sad how greed can stonewall modding on the PS3 and 360. Just sad.

Battlefield 3 was my GOTY.

Its NPCs had more depth than Skyrims.

It could've been a lot better, but it still beats its competitors by far.

Honestly, about the bugs, I honestly did not think they were so game breaking as to take the nomination away from bethesda. Okay, the graphical glitches were annoying, but few and far between, and the quest breaking bugs, most of them can be solved by reloading a save. It's not nearly as bad as non-bethesda fans on the internet make it out to be.

Skyrim, like all games, has it's faults. This is mainly a subjective matter.

However, I will say you'll be hard pressed to find another game that offers 250+ hours offline. That's before anyone has modded it.

Hmm... In my opinion both Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Skyrim deserved it.

Battlefield 3 was my GOTY.

Its NPCs had more depth than Skyrims.

I strongly disagree. When I had to kill my ally at the end I didn't really care at all. Just meh, the campaign was one of the worst I've played in a while.

Every MAIN Elder Scrolls won at least one GOTY Reward... Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Oblivion.

I actually was suspecting Skyrim to win it as well and Skyrim did so. So I am not surprised at all.
