I...Uh...Have you heard of empathy? Jesus man, that's pretty cold. I read a really interesting book called the "psychopath test." It's about a guy who finds out what defines a psychopath and how they think differently to "normal" people. One of the classic indicators was a lack of empathy.
Just a heads up for the future.
Many people don't feel empathy for those they haven't met. Why should I concern myself with numbers on a television screen if the only names I know them by are victim 1, 2, 3 and 4?
I mean, I'm loyal to my friends and keep a tight knit circle of people I'm very close to, but those outside this circle
usually don't concern me.
That's probably what she's responding to. Rightly or wrongly, psychiatrists subscribe to the theory that being unconcerned about the way your words effect others is a bad sign.
I can see that. I don't go around insulting people or tormenting them because of their faults, but that's only because every time I've done it (only during grade school, really) I've felt awful. Talking about nailing bodies to the side of Hoover Dam, facing West so that they may watch their world die just feels me to the brim with joy. I really don't hate people, I'm just not a fan of most of them and the odd looks on their faces are entertaining.
I end up quoting Chuck Palahniuk's books often, just because I like the minimalist, brutal honesty, and all around (while transparent, they aren't psychopaths, their just close to it) apathy of his characters.
