Does it seem a bit immoral to you?

Neither of these quotes actually say that anyone actually will get kidnapped though.

I'm not saying it's immoral for the dovakiin to have a family, I'm it's immoral for them to have a family and then leave that family alone in the wilderness surrounded by angry giants, kidnappers and bandits

Seeing as they differentiate kidnappers from bandits suggests that some kidnapping does go on

I'm pretty sure somewhere it actually does, but why would there be kidnappers that doesn't kidnap people... if you just stand there and do nothing, do you expect them to just stand there too? :twirl:

Kidnapping attempts maybe. It'd be different if they said, and save your family from kidnappers, but thats not what it says.

Well, vampires are supposed to svck blood, and leave the victim alive for later, or at least drink their blood first, yet the vamps in skyrim just randomly attack towns and cities. Just because they are kidnappers, doesnt mean they'll get the chance. Dont assume anything unless you have real proof.

Yeah I guess but it does really seem that the fact they bothered to mention kidnapping as a separate thing suggests that it has a separate scenario to a bandit attack which means they must get part way through the kidnapping

I see what you're saying, but it said protect them from kidnappers, meaning prevent the actual kidnapping. We dont know from that quote if they actually will. Besides the point. You were saying it was immoral to leave them out there, but its not like they'll be alone. You have your house carl.

Says who? I have never seen Elder Scrolls vampires programmed to do that at all. However there are quest already in Skyrim were people get kidnapped or taken. It's logical to assume this can happen to your players family.

Logical to assume, yes. There's reason to assume a lot of things. The likeliness of it though is what matters. From that quote, you cant really assume there will be that kind of mission because it uses the word protect, not rescue.

So you've never had a single vampire attack on the city? Have you not noticed all the complaining people did because of this?

No it says: Guard your home from unwanted visitors like marauding kidnappers

If you fail to guard your home, there "has" to be some sort of repercussion for that, which would likely be a family getting kidnapped since there kidnappers not bandits.

Vampires attack cities during the night if they have not its a bug.

I have had few vampire attacks, never heard any NPC talking about getting blood svcked or whatever. If it does though, it's irrelevant... it's to set the mood of the vampire theme, there not programmed to do this. There are kidnapper quest in the game though.

I would imagine it means that if you don't have a steward, your home will not be guarded, and you family member may get kidnapped while your away, meaning you will randomly get a quest to save them. That is most likely what it means.

I was thinking about the whole basis of the dlc and, assuming you use all of the new content, this is essentially what the dragonborn is doing:
  • Adopting some kids despite knowing that there are plenty of more appropriate parents who will be with them the whole time and dont have dangerous enemies
So its your opinion that sailors, soliders and hunters all of whom would be gone for long streches of time shouldn't be allowed to have families? Aside from the spouse the house can contain, a steward, a bard and a carriage driver so it isn't like they are all alone out there.

  • Moving your wife and kids from the safety and comfort of a city to a house you have built in the middle of nowhere
  • A house that will be constantly plagued by skeevers and giants
  • And a location where they will constantly be subjected to bandit raids and kidnapping
Now I'm not criticising Bethesda, I love the idea behind Hearthfire and will definitely buy it but it seems a little odd to me. How about you?
We don't know exactly where in the aformentioned holds the houses can be built so you don't know its in the middle of no where. You have no basis that it will be constantly plagued by skeevers or giants and finally I've saved countless cityfolk from kidnappers for the companions so the cities aren't safe either. (especially with Dawnguard installed).

I also have not heard anyone say anything about getting blood svcked out of them either. I will have to pay closer attention.
It would be a nice way to set the mood for sure. Dark undertones are a plus.
