Does it seem a bit immoral to you?

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 11:23 am

I was thinking about the whole basis of the dlc and, assuming you use all of the new content, this is essentially what the dragonborn is doing:
  • Adopting some kids despite knowing that there are plenty of more appropriate parents who will be with them the whole time and dont have dangerous enemies
  • Moving your wife and kids from the safety and comfort of a city to a house you have built in the middle of nowhere
  • A house that will be constantly plagued by skeevers and giants
  • And a location where they will constantly be subjected to bandit raids and kidnapping

Now I'm not criticising Bethesda, I love the idea behind Hearthfire and will definitely buy it but it seems a little odd to me. How about you?

A extremely famous hunter of dragons and killer of the World Eater? I do think most would be scared to mess with him, unless you are a giant of skeever, where your intelligence is questioned. But even then, he is the slayer of the World Eater, I'm sure he could protect his family.

Even then if you can afford a mansion I don't think you could get that rich from simply chopping firewood.

You can just have a shack if that is what you want.

Then you might have a problem if you wanted a family to live in a shack. Then it would be immoral.

yeah but not everyone knows you are the dovakiin, otherwise you wouldn't be constantly attacked by bandits in the wild. Furthermore when you are not at home bandits and other wrongdoers will just see a large mansion as a potential goldmine

You don't have to have a family, if that's what you want. Its all up to you. Personally, I think you are just over thinking this.

Are you saying it's irresponsible for soldiers to be good parents? Because there are a few military men and women who might take issue with that.

1. Most parents couldn't be with them the hole time since they would have to work in order to feed the family, and nothing has a chance against the Dragonborn so the children are under maximum security

2. Moving your family away from places were a Stormcloak/Legion attack could happen to a place were none of the factions will harm them? Seems like a good idea.

3. Skeever plagues are inevitable, and giants won't stand a chance againt the Thu'um.

4. Not only do we have the thu'um, but we have stewards and housecarls to help protect our family, so bandits don't stand a chance either way.

I'm not sure where you are getting that from and I would rather you not create an issue where there currently isn't one.

Fair point about the whole stormcloak/imperial thing, for the steward protects them from the bandit raids, I read somewhere that one of the objectives you can get is the rescue family members after they have been kidnapped from bandits so they may not be as safe as you think.

Just to make this clear I DON'T MIND THAT THIS SEEMS IMMORAL I'm not complaining or saying that I don't want to get the dlc or miss out content I just wanted to point it out.

I think I may have read it on bethesdas page for hearth fire I'll see if I can find the quote

EDIT: from bethesdas website (http://gamesas.com/en-us/games/hearthfire)

"New Objectives and Interactions – Guard your home from unwanted visitors like marauding kidnappers, armed bandits, and skeever infestations. Turn almost any follower into your personal steward to improve and protect your home. Or if you require more help, hire a personal bard or carriage driver to ease the burdens of home ownership."

There is more than one thing the Dovahkiin can to. He or she would have a life outside of being the one who bring down the World Eater.

This add on is a good example on expanding different roleplaying opportunities within the game world by allowing more interactions.

Also the Elder Scrolls games as are not completely about the main quest they are about your character in the world of Nirn in the nation of the current game setting. That and roleplaying make these games far more fun: so us this strange to me, no not at all.
