Does it seem a bit immoral to you?

I understand the concerns stated in the beginning of this topic, but they provide an incomplete picture. Consider:
  • Adopting some kids despite knowing that there are plenty of more appropriate parents who will be with them the whole time and dont have dangerous enemies
This is not modern times, where adoption agencies have five-year waiting lists and orphanages are a rarity. Do you think that a boy like Aventus would be left alone in his family home for weeks in the world we know? Life is HARSH for orphaned kids in Skyrim. They are lonely, unwanted, barely cared-for. Honorhall only exists because the Black-briars fund it. Lucia, when you find her, will be begging on the streets of Whiterun. The Dragonborn's home will be a port in a very rough storm for them.
  • Moving your wife and kids from the safety and comfort of a city to a house you have built in the middle of nowhere.
As opposed to Riften, ridden with crime and seated atop the Ratway? Or Markarth, which is plagued by Forsworn attacks? Or Windhelm, which is an ugly place if you're not a Nord, or if you are and you're opposed to prejudice? Not to mention pollution, poor sanitation, and the fact that there are probably more skeevers in cities than out. Cities have their problems, just like the countryside does. Otherwise, no one would be willing to live in the country.
  • A house that will be constantly plagued by skeevers and giants. And a location where they will constantly be subjected to bandit raids and kidnapping
And fierce, disciplined warriors who will guard them with their lives if necessary. Freedom and self-reliance are values that a lot of us have forgotten about, but the sons and daugvhters of Skyrim know well.

Fair points, this is the type of response I was looking for, well argued responses rather than simply telling me not to move my family

It's all to put a bit of love into the relationship as the dovakin refuses to have six.

I dont know about you, but that 'lover's embrace' bonus I get every time I sleep with my Onmund says otherwise..

Am I the only one that finds it outrageously strange that, if you follow the promotional trailers....

First Dovahkiin is a warrior fighting dragons to the death.
Then he's a power-hungry vampire lord, perhaps on a quest to become a demigod.
Then he's....he's baking bread for his wife and kids?

Seems like a pretty drastic change from evil vampire lord.

Not saying it shouldn't be made, but just saying it seems like a rather odd story to tell.

"Dovahkiin slew the dragon menace and single-handedly saved the world from destruction. The rejoicing was short-lived however, as shortly after he unleashed a vampire plague upon all of Skyrim.
Once that was done he retired to his self-built home in the Pale, where he took up weaving and raising his kids. His kids attend the College of Winterhold, easily identifiable by the robes their father wove for them, with the little puppy dog pattern knitted into the front."

Maybe its a convinient way of rounding up the dovakiin's family to be subsequently killed off in the next dlc

Laugh all you want, but that little puppy dog pattern allows his kids to spam destruction spells at zero cost.

Anywho, I would like to see if the homes we already have are getting overhauled as well, with all these new foods and other nick nacks. Will we be able to bake bread and other things in pre existing houses? Will inn's get these thing as well, so every guest can wake up with a sweet roll next to their bed? Because if this dlc extends it's reach beyond just the homes we'll gain the ability to make, it really will become that much more worthwhile.

Crossing my fingers for a world wide house bug fix, expecting new homes to explode just like interiors do in pre-built houses.

Everyone seems to forget this important point. Childrens in Skyrim, as in pretty much any other videogames for that matter, are creature immune to death. Don't worry for your kids, they are pretty much safe anywhere in skyrim, even in the middle of a pool of lava ;)

yeah but not everyone knows you are the dovakiin, otherwise you wouldn't be constantly attacked by bandits in the wild. Furthermore when you are not at home bandits and other wrongdoers will just see a large mansion as a potential goldmine
so just because you know all the people know it too? in Morrowind you are NEREVAR and Dunmer Bandits still attacked you! and Bandits live in caves and all that so how do they know about DragonBorn Coming back when you are fighting them you will killed them so they dont even know what killed them anyways!

they should let you put decapitated enemies heads on spikes outside of your house, if that's not a bandit deterrant I wouldn't know what is.

Immoral would be a strong word. Foolhardy is more like it.

But then again, you could say the same of anyone who moves into rural areas. Heck, I live in a town with the population fairly spread out and rural. Coyotes howl around here all night through the summer. Plenty of house pets go missing due to them. I have relatives in other states who live in even more remote areas. And some people in my country that go back several generations have a tale or two about ancestors who homesteaded. I have some who went on the Oregon Trail. Bringing your family into a wilderness area filled with wild animals was and is nothing unusual and it certainly isn't immoral. It is the way it has been for most of human history, until a lot of the apex predators were diminished or wiped out. (Off-topic tanget: But pushing out the native peoples is another story and another thread!)

In-game, you might as well call the people of Riverwood or Falkreath immoral for living in the wilds. (Tangent: Although, honestly, a barrier from the outside is the first thing any settlement or household would realistically raise and a lack of them irks me. However, in this case, the omission makes some gameplay sense. All those fences would really make it annoying to defend the 'open' villages from dragon attacks for instance.) Falkreath, being a city, has guards. The other settlements seem more like homesteads (Riverwood is stated as having only be around for a few generations), so the lack of guards is a little more plausible. (Although, honestly, they should have them, I can understand why that isn't the case. Too much stuff to put in a game.)

True, true. Odahviing could be my brother then, and the kids could call him uncle! Uncle Odahviing! Has a nice ring to it. All the dragons do call each other brother, and you are a dragon, so...
