Dominos or Papa Johns

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 4:52 am

Oh! Another chain I absolutely love that not even papa johns or dominoes can beat! Shakeys. I was ecstatic when one finally decided to show up close by :P

Neither. There both disgusting trash.

Small, italian pizza parlors > nasty food chains.

There's a local parlor in my town. Bella Italia. Best pizza I've ever had. I really want to go to Italy and get the classic Margherita.

In these parts, Papa John's is far better if a little inconsistent; Dominos are more consistent, but consistently vile. They're not quite as bad as Pizza Hut, but that isn't saying much.

I'm sure they didn't used to be that bad, I mean all three are worse than I remember from years ago, and I'm sure my tastes haven't gone particularly upmarket over time.

When I was in England for almost a year I noticed that many people ate pizza with a knife and fork. People would look at me like I was some kind of barbarian when I'd pick it up with my hands (so I switched to knife and fork and now I get funny looks from fellow Americans).

Oh, between the two I like Dominos better now. They've improved recently. Round Table (California/West Coast chain) trumps them both.

Round Table is very good for a chain too, though a bit overpriced from what I remember.

I don't eat a lot of pizza but would choose Papa Johns over Dominos. Mainly because they do a white sauce pizza which would be my preference. Nomnomnom... :D

We have a local place called Benitos that has maybe a dozen locations. They have a bacon, lettuce & tomato pizza that's pretty fantastic.

Unrelated: Every time I saw Herman Cain, he made me want to get pizza. I'm glad he's no longer in the race, because I was getting pretty fat.

Both are slimy garbage to me.
I prefer a small local business over any of the pizza franchises. Fresher toppings and much less grease, for the same price.

This. Can't get better pizza anywhere else other than New York and Italy. I have been living with that mindset since my birth. So it won't change. Where I live, we have really great small businesses around. Dominos and Papa John's do not exist. It really is just local pizza places, or the two Pizza Huts I know of. Oh and the one Little Caesars by my house.

This this this! There is a local pizza joint near my place called "The Pizza Pub", best damn pizza you'll ever find.

I've had excellent pizza from small independent places in San Francisco. The best I've had was from a place that wasn't even a pizza place. It was a home style Italian restaurant that had a brick oven for pizza. Really, anywhere Italians have settled in large numbers has good pizza joints.

Both are stupidly expensive, so neither.

Local > Chain.
Although Domino's is quite delicious here. Haven't had Papa John's in a while but it's okay for a pizza.

We don't have Papa John's in Canada but we have Domino's. We also have a large Canadian pizza franchise in Ontario called http://www.pizzapizza.ca/PPLWeb/CommandServlet?command=screenscmd&screenID=homepage. I prefer it to almost anything besides Pizza Hut and specialty italian restaurants.

We have Papa John's, I live in a smaller city of like 80 000 and its available.

When ever I want pizza I think Dominos but nothing beats your local pizza shop. Or New York pizza, that was all I ate when I took a trip up there.

Oh, there's no guffawing happening. It's not easy to even find a Papa John's or Domino's here. It's mostly individual restaurants and local chains with 2 or 3 locations around the city. You have to go to the suburbs to find Papa's or Domino's (outside of the odd Domino's here or there, but they're few and far-between). And by "real" I mean not chock full of preservatives and other chain restaurant stuff. To me the pizza from most of the chain pizza places tastes waaaaay too salty.

One of my friend's family is from New york and when ever we have pizza with them, they'll get into New York pizza is the best, yak yak yak.

Alot of people like to brag about their local pizza being the best. Unless I work their or helped with the recipe I don't see the point of the pride.

Not saying you are though, but some people are for some reason.

Which might explain why the best pizza I ever had was in South Miami. A little hole in the wall place that you'd drive by and not give a thought about unless you knew somebody who had already eaten there. To be fair, I think the fellow that owned it was originally from New York.

Does this mean that, by extrapolation, there should be really awesome pizzas available in York? :hehe: You can probably get a reasonable curry there, no idea about pizza, though.

Nah, I'm just saying that there are so freaking many options among the local pizza joints that there's no reason for me to consider pizza chains...even if there were some near me (which is probably why the chains don't have much of a presence in the city to begin with).

I've had some good pizza in New York. My favorite joints are still in Chicago by far, though, and it's not just because I <3 Chicago.

I was in San Antonio, TX about a year ago and I ordered pizza to my hotel room. I ordered from the place that advertised the "best pizza you've ever had." The delivery girl even repeated that when she brought the pie. It ended up being a roughly disc-shaped piece of bland bread, waxy and tasteless cheese, and the sauce was like Spaghetti-O's with the O's strained out. I guess taste in pizza must vary widely from place to place. I almost called Lou Malnati's just to tell them I missed them.

Dear god I will never ever try Papa Johns ever again---as long as I live.

I ordered from them MANY months ago, guess what, that night was a painful b*tch for me.Bathroom in and out, bathroom in and out, etc.Th next day was terrible, and by god would I have done something horrible if anyone called me for a pap johns pizza that time.

Being the fool I am,I DID order from them a FEW months ago.Guess what, the food was so terrible that I could not even finish it.I had 1/8th of it and thats it.I just knew something bad would have happened if I even finished that.

In short:[censored] papa johns in our area.

Pizza Hut. It's better after sitting overnight in the fridge, though.
