If you want to prep for doomsday get yourself a bag of weed and some good music. honestly though this doomsday stuff is BS
The music won't play once the power goes out, but at least you can avoid thinking about doing any work until you starve to death or die of dehydration. :P

Ah, this doomsday discussion again.

I believe I have said enough in the past in a different thread, so I am just gonna say that the whole Mayan Doomsday deal is garbage, IMO.

That is all *leaves thread*

You would be so high that the music would still be playing in your mind.

You never know, a random fat guy could walk into your house, and trip and fall on top of your body, suffocating you to death.

O.o

preparing for the worst... and worrying about it... are 2 entirely different things

One can gather supplies, have everything ready "just in case" the worst happens, without worrying about it all the time and having it consume their life... and when something not quite as bad as the worst, but bad nonetheless DOES happen, said person will be ready for it.

41% of Americans believe its better to prep than put into retirement. Probably best to do both lol.

I'd rather find a less time-and-money-consuming insane obsession. Sorry.

I don't see why people are so blause about the whole thing. The potentiallity is debatable depending on the various political goings on of the world. But ultimately, it's better to be prepared. If I had it my way I'd have a high tech air filtered bunker with a small farm of fruits and veges just to be safe. It's not an insane obsession contrary to what the narrow minded here say, it's a topic of 'Always be prepared'. For me it is at least.

What is the point of living if you live in EVEN MORE constant fear than the average person? Being prepared for disaster and letting it dominate your life are two different things.

Kinda relevant: Anyone else saw "The Colony" on Discovery? I thought it was cool. Following people in a apocalyptic world is very interesting.

There's a difference between constant fear and 'Lol when the bombs drop, I'll be prepared svckas!'.

This show is showing off nutcases though, I just want the things to be prepared because I don't like the idea of taking chances if things go wrong. I don't have the dream of LIVING in said bunker unless things do go wrong, it'd just be nice to have something like that on standby. Like atm, theres some chick saying she'd put bullets in all her cats brainstems if things went wrong to ensure her survival. Seriously, this show's only going to show off the psychos, I just know it >_>

How do you prepare for an earthquake? (honest question, we don't have them here)

We have quite a few earthquakes in Iceland and I've learned that I should prep for one by always keeping a fresh roll of tissues ready in the kitchen. Learned that the hard way one day when I was happily gaming when an earthquake happened so it startled me and I accidentally slapped my glass of pepsi, toppling it over, spilling the pepsi all over my table and keyboard. And there was no roll of tissues at the ready to clean up the worst of it quickly before it got sticky!

Even now there is a roll of tissues ready for a worst case scenario during an earthquake.

Spoiler
Yes such events as natural disasters can be dangerous and one is right to worry about them but there is very little any one individual can really do to prepare for them. The real preparations we have in Iceland for our earthquakes is how we build our houses to be reinforced with metal that will bend to pressure before breaking so if strain should be put on the walls and if they should crack then the building wouldn't just come crashing down in any places with chunks of the roof falling down on people but it would all be sticking to some extent to the reinforcement metal we have. So during an earthquake, and I have been in a few, the only thing I can do is trust that the earthquake won't be too big and to trust that those who were in charge of building whatever building I may be in at the given moment built it by the standard rules we have for buildings and thus with the structural integrity to keep me from harm should the concrete fail.

Colonel there is a reason people think nothing bad will ever happen, people refuse to do anything about anything till it staring them in the face. If it's not a immediate problem then it isn't a problem. I was born in 91 when the Soviet Union fell, my generation didn't have the big looming "nuclear war" over out head's. There is no big boogeyman till 9/11 happened and even then people are still detached from reality. The threat of nuclear war has been replaced with nuclear terrorism, which quite frankly should be more terrifying to people. The Soviet stockpile isn't entirely secure, one of the guys working at a disarmament plant for stole a little bit of uranium a day for years so he could buy a fridge for his family. And that's just one thing, there are so many other reason's to prep. It's not all about man-made disasters either, natural disasters that are seasonal/regional are a rather big reason to prep or "bugout". Again, it's not all about prepping for the end of the world people, it's also about being prepared for anything.

Yes I did see the Colony, I'm waiting to see if there will be another season. Though as a experiment it just goes to show how bad people are at surviving in this modern world we live in. And if you watch it I'm sure you had moment where you went " come on how stupid are these people??"

Yes it is trying to do that, and this is a problem some in the prepping community have a problem with. And personally I do want to live "the life" mostly because I enjoy it, of course it's not gonna be all consuming like with some. And I enjoy the thought of building all this stuff. I'm planning on joining the military to help get training to survive, as well as serving my nation.

I'm not sure I believe on an exact date and time but I do believe an event is possible and shouldnt be ignored. I am not saying build bunkers but dont beIieve its not possible. I just have to remind myself that it wasnt that long ago that over 70 million people died in WW2. People today are too comfortable in their everyday surroundings to think anything bad could ever happen. Just ask my grandparents about how ugly the world really is.

When I was young I always laughed at how my grandparents talked about world events all the time and hoarded so much stuff in their garage and cellar, saved money, never wasted anything. I completely understand why they behaved this way now that I'm older. My grandfather still never talks about what he saw or did when he fought in WW2....I respect the hell out of him.

I like the Zombie Survival guide as weil. With a little common sense, you can adapt it's tips to any social collapse issue.
