BS

#1) You can get a waiver to join the military for ANYTHING... even being to stupid to pass that ridiculously easy ASVAB (I know, I had people in my unit that failed it)

#2) It's only body fat they care about... not muscle. Furthermore, so long as you can complete the physical fitness tests, that's all that really matters. They just know for a fact mr 5'5" @ 220lbs with 20% body fat can't do it. PS: we had some major fat asses in the army too.
Well the recruiter told me because I have lost inches on my waist because of my weight I would need to bulk up my neck. I don't have anything to bulk my neck up at the gym I go to.

FFS make ur recruiter work for you, it's his job to get you in...

Tho honestly... I'mma go ahead and insert my plug to never ever ever ever ever join the army at this point.

I think you're underestimating our international reputation. Not that it means anyone would waste a nuke on us :hehe:
Our "reputation" is mostly our neighbors laughing at us and Americans drooling over our education system. With the budget cuts our army is quickly becoming little more than a bad joke as well. True, according to some sources USA intended to nuke Finland a whopping 22 times in WW3 but those days are over.

Most countries have contingency plans for pretty much ANY scenario, and understandably too. Prior to WW2 (And I'm talking 5-10 years before at the most), both America and Britain had plans to invade the other.

You do know humanity has gone through all that but nuclear war(though there is radioactive glass in India some say was caused by nukes thousands of years ago) and we're all still here right? Stuff happens, dedicating your life to living through the end of civilization may seem wasted but some actually enjoy that. To you it may seem wasted, but to others it's a way to bring together family or meet new people. What they are going to be showing is hopefully a mix of people that have taken it to far, and those that are just living in the real world and having a backup plan. Not only that the US government WANTS people to prep(to a degree, you can be called a terrorist at a certain point) for natural diasters that happen EVER year.

Wait, radioactive glass, from... Nukes... From thousands of years ago? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Please tell me you don't ACTUALLY believe it.

And on to your point about preparing... There's a point where it goes from being cautious and preparing for bad things to happen, to being obsessed with the possibility, no matter how remote, of bad things happening. You can't live your life in fear, because if you do, you aren't really living at all. I could die every time I step outside my door, but that doesn't stop me from going outside.

Anyway, I won't be watching it. This kind of show is pure crap, and there's more than enough like it on TV to last anyone a lifetime.

That sand glass is more likely from am asteroid impact... not a technological nuke device

Naturally... but I wouldn't consider it "Living in fear" to have a bases of supplies... Most of what I plan on collecting will get occasional use with camping trips and crap anyways.

Of course a critical event is unlikely... but it IS possible, and taking moderate, reasonable preparations is not uncalled for.

No one is saying to standby your CB radio with a tinfoil hat on waiting on the announcement.

Well yeah, or any number of other perfectly natural event. I'm just curious as to whether or not he actually believes it.

Well no, there's nothing wrong with having a base of supplies. My family has dry rations and bottled water to likely last us about two weeks. We don't have a massive cellar stocked to the brim with bottled water and canned food costing tens of thousands of dollars though.

Admittedly, it probably would be a good idea to purchase a few gas masks and filters, considering we live quite close to a nuclear plant. I still don't see the need to have a full scale vault under your house.

There would be ruins if there was a civilization on earth before us....

unless some aliens doing a flyby 20,000 years ago shot off a photon torpedo for fun while passing through our solar system.... :P

Hey, it's more likely than an earlier civilization on earth that had every scrap of evidence of it's existence vanish from earth while this 1 small patch of land they nuked remained untouched :P

we have enough nukes to completely destroy the world something like 5-10 times over.....

Overkill? Doesn't even begin to describe it.

I know that, and I realize how ridiculous it is, but like I said, I want to know if HE believes it. Because it sounded like he sort of did.

except all 3 countries know they can't fire without triggering Armageddon...

also why the 3 of us have not had direct engagements in some time. We use proxies to dike with interests of the other countries so there is no direct line pointing back to us....

Yeah, I'm by no means a land whale. And the Army is something I want to do for my country, not for my government. Plus it's the only way I can get college.

Why would Russia attack Denmark becasue of Copenhagen anyway?
Are you also expecting the Brittish to attack the US because they want payback? I don't follow you at all.

Yeah, why would we want America back in the first place. Too many crazies.

I was the same way..... then I realized that some dip (at the time good ol' W.) had the authority to order me somewhere to shoot someone I didn't agree with.

I have no problem with protecting my countrymen, or anyone in need of defense irregardless of nationality... however it seems to me the military is used more to protect corporate interests than human interests... and so I had to grudgingly leave the service, despite having pretty much my entire life dream laid at my feet ready to pick up (My squad leader got me a warrant officer to sign for me into the helo flight program, and my Commander and 1st sgt both wanted to send me to Ranger school, Sapper school [like rangers but with focus on improvised demo... I was a combat engineer], and PLDC back to back which woulda had me a Sgt in under 4yrs service.)

I signed up to be a career soldier and had almost no sign on bonus (small boost to GI Bill... my GI Bill with boost is less than the GI Bill is now). I WANTED to be in. I WANTED to fight... I can't tell you the difficulty I had in walking away from all that but there it is.

I'm not even going into the Navy for 'My Country', don't even care about it really. I'm just going in so I can get a jumpstart on life >_>
And the Navy IS one of the safer bets on that.... only the Air Force is "safer"

..... yah ... in a sense I guess

At the same time it has also put us into a rather precarious situation... I doubt anybody is gonna hit the big red button... but it only takes 1 crazy mofo to do unspeakable damage.

To be honest, I would actually vote for Obama if he declared war on Iran and did something to help the Syrians. Only way I'd vote for him.

O.o

Last thing we need is MORE war ffs...

we've been "at war" for over a decade now... it's ridiculous. Our economy cannot sustain this.
