Dovahkiin...The most powerful character we will ever play?

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 9:03 am

So, the Dovahkiin looks to be significantly more powerful than any other character we've played in an Elder Scrolls game to date. I personally love the idea of playing a character that has more power than others, and although we could create powerful characters before, were they more powerful than the other great characters of Elder Scrolls lore? Take a mage, for example...could we really say our mage was more powerful than say, Divath Fyr? Or our maxed out warrior...was he really greater than Gaiden Shinji. Or were we just kidding ourself? How about our thief? Greater than Emer Dareloth?

But now, the tables seem to have turned. Divath Fyr? Dragon shouts seem to be more powerful than ordinary magic, so our 'mage Dovahkiin' could claim to be greater. Gaiden Shinji? Could he block our super fast attacks...doubtful. Could Emer Dareloth move at the speed our thief characters will be able to...no.

So, do you think it's good to be so powerful? After all, if we go back to our 'ordinary' characters next, be it in Elder Scrolls VI or when we replay the other games, will we miss our powerful Dovahkiin? Or do you like to play more 'ordinary' characters, with comparable abilities to the other NPC's?

You always start pretty weak, in my opinion.
A prisoner in three consecutive games.

It's the subsequent journey that enables you to unlock your power.

I'm not quite sure I agree with you. The last dragonborn, Tiber Septim, was badass enough to become a god.

Of course, forgot about that :) But I think our power was only confined to the Shivering Isles, unlike a proper Daedra Lord?

I had a pure mage in Oblivion, who could cast an AoE cold spell (and an AoE softener), that could kill every enemy in a 60ft x 300ft zone in front of me with just 2 spells in combination.

...Dovahkiin is gonna have to pull out all the stops to beat that.

Not sure about the Arena champion...
I think the Daggerfall champion became a special agent/guard of the Emperor...someone correct me if I'm wrong.
The Nerevarine became immortal and was capable of defeating demi-gods (Dagoth Ur and Almalexia) in toe-to-toe combat.
The Champion of Cyrodiil became Sheogorath, as mentioned before.

We don't really know exactly what the Dovahkiin does yet...
I'd say it's possible he's one of the most powerful...but, I don't think THE most powerful.

Well, what I was thinking was that the dovahkiin could become just as able as the other playable characters in ability (destruction magic and blade skill etc), with the added power of the Dragon shouts. I would also think the cooldown is for gameplay reasons, in lore i would suspect he could use the shouts more liberally...

Also, the Neravarine just had access to the same power as the other characters, which is what makes me think Dovahkiin could become more powerful. There's also the Alduin thing, who is supposed to be a proper God, as opposed to Demigod...But I'm just speculating, of course

We didn't get the ability to call dragons to aid you, nor could we slow down time, or call storms (only rain lol) to kill your enemies, and you couldn't om nom nom dragon souls and all that other epic stuff when you became a Daedric prince :P

No he didn't... Just sent him packing. Pretty sure you can't kill a Daedric Prince. Anywho, my Nerevarine was pretty damn powerful. I doubt the Dragonborn could take him.

Do you mean Martin?
It's debatable that he was even Dragonborn.
Just because you have the blood of the dragon, doesn't mean you have the soul of one.
Also, he just figured out a nifty trick with the amulet (which channeled the souls of the emperors).
He wasn't exactly...powerful...

And Mehrunes Dagon has been cast into Oblivion before...quite a bit, actually. He's fine...just annoyed.

But your Neravarine only had access to the same broad skillset that the other characters had...The Dovahkiin on the other hand has the Dragon shouts, which I admit in lore, we don't know how powerful they are. But I would think more powerful than ordinary magic. Just guessing though.

a Dragon beat him in battle and banish him back into Oblivion, you have to be pretty powerful to banish a dagon

and if the Dragonborn and kill 20 dragons then ...

But that's the thing. It wasn't Martin...
It was the Avatar of Akatosh. Martin just used his Septim blood as a sacrifice to give the Avatar a body.

Meh. We need Hellmouth. He knows this stuff better than anyone.
If someone can explain it all, it's him.

Shouldn't the fact that Dovahkiin will inevitably fight and defeat Alduin prove he'll be the most powerful?

I only completed the Shivering Isles a little while ago, but I don't remember it stating what power you would have? I'm pretty sure Sheogorath said you wouldn't became a Daedric Prince, yet it said the staff would contain the power of Sheogorath? I would suspect the power that you did have would be contained to the Shivering Isles, and would be nowhere near that of the other Daedric Princes...Probably no more powerful than the Tribunal.

There is also the issue of what does it mean to be born with the soul of a dragon. There's bound to be a significance behind it that we don't know yet
