The DLC is Xbox exclusive for a month obviously. Microsoft purchased exclusivity for the first two expansions. Hearthfire is just a little filler add-on to tide people over between expansions.

Why, then, did Xbox users get one month exclusivity for Hearthfire?

well then wait for them to announce it. again what's the fuss about?
Before I answer, are you in one of the affected groups? If not, you really should keep your nose out. If you are, same thing because your opinion is only your own.

I already posted about how dismaying it is to see Bethesda in a deal with the devil, because I like Bethesda. There are other reasons why the timed exclusives are a bummer, however. By the time we get the DLC, it feels like old news. Blah. There's no excitement, no buildup, no experiencing the new content along with the rest of the fanbase. Unless you're very vigilant, you've already gotten a bunch of spoilers about it. Nothing new to uncover. It also divides the fanbase in not-nice ways. I'm speaking as a PC player, so I can only imagine how PS3 players must feel. Get it now?

Oh, and I would add that it's a reminder that we got a terrible UI because of Xbox, too. It's obvious that Xbox is the lead platform. Although I do give Bethesda a lot of credit for releasing the high-res pack and Creation Kit.

If you search "@dcdeacon" on twitter, you can see everyone who tweets him. Here's a link: https://twitter.com/search/realtime?q=%40dcdeacon&src=http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1421229-dragonborn-dlc-exclusivity-ps3-and-pc-release-dates-thread-2/typd

He's probably gotten at least 100 tweets today since the announcement but hasn't answered anyone yet.

It's hard to get exact numbers, but most estimates put the platform market share for Skyrim at -

60%; XBox
25% - 30%; PS3
10% - 15%; PC

How have you reached these numbers? If you used http://www.vgchartz.com/ well then that page has one flaw, it doesn't count digital copies sold.

Regarding the rest I do run 89 mods and very few of them have been broken by a patch so far, your thoughts are interesting in itself, but the chance for that happening is slim to none.

meh tired had to remove some things due to a serious misreading on my part :P

Thanks. It is my understanding that he's probably the only one allowed to say an official word on the subject [probably even Gstaff isn't] but I'm a complete noob with Twitter and didn't know where to look.

Didn't they say from the start that they've contracted the first 3 DLC's as timed exclusives?

So many ungreatful people here... Here you people are whining about a video game, while my AR15 rifle jams up on me on a regular basis when I'm in fire fights or my Operating Base is getting shelled by towl heads. Be greatful that you even have a dam game for there to be a DLC for. I'm getting sick of seeing people here complain about such rediculas crap while people are going without food and water and barely etching out an existance in this world. Be greatful for what you get, because there are people who would literally kill to be in your shoes.

How have you reached these numbers? If you used http://www.vgchartz.com/ well then that page has one flaw, it doesn't count digital copies sold. And Skyrim pretty much is one of the games that according to rumors has sold the best on Steam. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-01-04-steam-shoots-over-5-million-concurrent-users-mark this article tells a quite different picture that might just make you think twice about saying the PC market is a 10-15% niche market. Skyrim has by these numbers more then 5 million users playing Skyrim alone, which makes them bigger then PS3 and not far behind Xbox in sales. The PC market for Skyrim is probably a lot bigger then most people think. Sure a lot of these copies probably is people buyin g it both on xbox and PC. still it show's that the PC market is way bigger then those 10-15%.

Regarding the rest I do run 89 mods and very few of them have been broken by a patch so far, your thoughts are interesting in itself, but the chance for that happening is slim to none.

I thought those numbers did include digital copies - my mistake. I've edited my original post to take them out. I used several pages I found with a Google and sort of averaged the reported numbers out.

That makes me feel a lot better. I thought we were the red-headed stepchild of the market - nice to know we have a bit more clout than what I previously thought.

I still don't like the direction Bethesda seems to be taking lately, though.

This is a video-game forum not a world-hunger organization. ALL we want to talk about is video-games. Nothing else is logical or even relevant in this discussion. The comparison is flat and frankly pointless.

Bethesda will never drop PC support. Remember that the sales figures don't reflect digital sales. Skyrim and it's add-ons haven't dropped out of Steam's Top 20 since release, and the price hasn't gone down too much either. Bethesda is making a killing off of Steam and, by extension, the PC version of Skyrim.

Consider this as well: releasing only on 360 negates the possibility of Xbox players jumping ship to the PC version for mod support. I started on the 360 myself with Oblivion, but was happy to jump ship and buy the game again once I got a good PC. I know I'm not the only one.

If Dragonborn falls under a 30 day exclusive deal, I'll be a very unhappy customer. We were told from the very beginning that the 30 day deal only applied to the first 2 DLC. Dragonborn is the third. This means that Bethesda entered into ANOTHER deal with full knowledge of how poorly received the first deal was among the community.

As you see from my edited post due to being tired it isn't 5 millions users playing Skyrim, but 5 millions users logged on to steam at once. So that was a mistake from my part

But digfital downloads is not registered on VGchartz so it makes it a bit harder to estimate exact numbers.

You have no idea how [censored] up that is. Its time some of you looked away from your dam moniter and to the world around you. Life isent a dam video game, although sometimes I wish it was because then I few friends of mine would still be breathing to hear you dont give a [censored] about what they did and gave. This may be a game forum, but you people [censored]ing about nothing worth [censored]ing about. ITS A GAME, nothing here matters. The world wont stop turning just because your DLC got postponed one month. Some of my friends still deployed may not live another dam minute and your complainning about a one month delay.... You make me sick, You people have no idea what you have and you got the balls to tell me no one cares how my friends were killed. Killed so you could [censored] about nothing....

Please, don't play tough guy. Had a look in your profile, I was in Mozambico when you weren't even born and I guess I don't have to tell you what I was doing there. Over the years I learned when it's the time to talk about people with needs and when it's time to talk about video games. I am now on a video games forum and I guess I have all the right to read, write and complain about GAMES and nothing else. Get it?

I just want to know how much of an impact exclusivity makes on Bethesda, and their team. Is it really worth holding back 2/3 of your fanbase? Or could you make equally as much selling to all three platforms right off the bat? In my opinion exclusivity should be for entire games not extra content. If you are going to do third party applications, is it really fair to limit content for that large of an audience? Not trying to bash them or anything, I just don't think it's fair to those of us who already invested a lot in either our PC builds, or our PS3 setups. Also I'm pretty sure I remember them saying that it would be on all consoles after exclusivity was up. If anything I'm done with Skyrim until game of the year edition. Fallout 3 was the only title I could wait months upon months for the DLC.

If there had been a new deal, there would have been an announcement about it, no point paying money for an exclusive period if you do not advertise it, and there was no Xbox 360 logo on the trailer. There is no exclusive deal.

Wait, I thought the patch showed that they were enabling the dlc menu for ps3 users?

It did, so the PS3 is getting something, and it would be Dragonborn. This runs seperate to Skyrim so even if they never solved the problem they had, the PS3 can play this DLC, even if elements have to be cut that are added to the vanilla game. Nothing has ever been announced for Steam, and Sony take their own time announcing anything. I would not worry that the Xbox 360 version is the only one with a release date so far.

It provides them with currency upfront to fund the addons. Often times, it also includes marketing assistance as well. It being worth it or not, is a really complex issue that's dependent on the terms of the contract and the specific situation.

It is fair to express your discontent at such arrangements, so hopefully the suits who have far more of the relevant information realize it also costs them franchise good will.

I did my time in uniform too - Uncle Sam's Canoe Club during the first Gulf War. I was there when the very first pilot shot down in that conflict launched from our flight deck. I was there when 22 of my shipmates drowned in a ferry boat accident in Haifa harbor at Christmas time in 1990.

Part of the job you took, and that I took all those years ago, was ensuring that old farts like me had the freedom to gripe about video games on a video game forum. If that bothers you, I'm sorry, but that's just the way it is.
