Thanks to certain people with an addiction to online gaming and an attachment to their 8-year old characters, the only thing that'll kill WoW is if Blizzard bankrupts itself.

If TESO kills WoW by being like WoW or not ... whoever wins ... we all lose.

Just wanted to be the first to say that on this topic.

"Elder Scrolls Online will kill WoW". So they said about;

Age of Conan.
Lord of the Rings Online.
Star Wars: Old Republic.
Dungeons & Dragons Online.

The list goes on, and those type of threads as you made right here has been made hundreds of times before all over other MMORPG forums.

I will remain sceptic untill I actually see the gameplay.

Elder Scrolls Online will kill WoW

Want a surefire way doe doom this game, encourage the developers to think that. Every MMO whose developers have thrown that statement around has fallen flat on its face right out of the gate. And whatever new-fangled feature they try to throw into the mix, always fails to deliver. But then Blizzard comes along, takes that feature and adds it into WoW somehow, and it ends up being gold and they remain dominant.

How do you kill WoW? By taking its customers from Blizzard. How do you do that? You make a game that offers pretty much exactly the same thing that WoW offers, only you do it better. Because the only way to get enough WoW players away from WoW to do any good is to give them a better overall experience. Not as good as WoW... Better than WoW." And I am sorry, but Blizzard has pretty much taken each of WoW's mechanics and taken them to the highest degree. And unless you've got more money than them, and as much time as WoW was in development plus how long it's been out, They are not going to be one-upped.

There are only two MMOs that stand to kill WoW. WoW and Titan.

The best that any would-be MMO developer can do is to design their MMO in SPITE of WoW, not in response to it. While WoW is the elephant in the room you cannot ignore, It should be accepted and acknowledged and development needs to move forward without paying homage to "all-mighty Blizzard".

I don't need it to be better than WoW, I just need it to be a good representation of Tamriel. For me the gameplay falls behind the lore and world design. I want to play it like an adventure exploration game with a little social and pvp context. They don't have to aim at WoW killer, just make a good TES'ish game.

the only thing that will ever kill WoW will be the next MMO Blizzard dishes out, so far I think the code name is Titan.

Even that's not guaranteed. Look at how much Everquest got "killed" by its sequel. Catching lightning in a bottle is hard to do once. Two times in a row? I'm skeptical.

No MMO is going to kill WoW. Not even an ESO game "done right", like some on the forums would like to believe.

No one No sensible person believes that. Most of us("us" meaning the people that want TESO to play like TES) just don't see the benefit to the players to label a game TES if it doesn't resemble TES in gameplay or character development.

The only reason there was any hype about a TES MMO all these years was people envisioned it to play like TES . would have been a breath of fresh air or a comming of age for MMOs in my eyes but now its just same old. Im gonna buy this game so that I have my right to vent and it only because I do care alot about TES and cant help but buy it. And zeni knows this

Although I'll be playing this game because we have no choice, it's the only multiplayer TES game, it really would have been a breath of fresh air if the gameplay was traditional TES. First person. Could have been a genre changing game man.

Wow will never be killed. We probably going to see wow going free to play soon and the number of players will grow a lot.

Im from Brazil and here the number of people who plays on private servers are massive. Once WOW goes F2P, It will have easly a couple of millions of new players instantanealy.

Because MMO developers answer to marketing departments, form a marketing standpoint, the safe bet will always be to stick as close to whatever the most profitable competitor has done. Innovation will never be seen as anything but a risk too dangerous to take. The problem is that this guarantees that the most profitable competitor will always stay the most profitable, as it is a model for being second best at most, with the typical outcome being to achieve mediocrity.

WoW is already dead, but still walking. Killing the Walking Dead again is not called killing however. Its called zombie slaughtering.

KoA:R is a shallow souless game that simply copies God of War combat. You can play the game from start to finish, and never die, only pressing fast attack.

that type of unbalance, shallow nonsense wouldn't last 1 month in a MMO pay to play model.
Not if you were playing on the hardest difficulty.

They don't want to kill WOW. They just want to make the best MMO ever. This is more than possible. WoW is aging and slowly dying on its own, but it will be a slow death of years. Hopefully TESO will slowly grow just because it is a great game. We'll see.

It still has millions of subs. It still has what... more than double the next closest MMO? Triple? Not close to dead. Be realistic.
