Elder Scrolls Online will kill WoW

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 7:18 pm

It still has millions of subs. It still has what... more than double the next closest MMO? Triple? Not close to dead. Be realistic.
I wasn't implying sarcasm. 10 million subscribers is indeed nowhere near dead.

Still sitting at 10+ million subs? Haven't most of these people maxed out their characters long ago?

The Old Republic - sporting the biggest and most loved franchise name in history - said the same thing. And now they're doing server merges 6 months after launch.

The Elder Scrolls fan base is smaller than Star Wars.

Thanks to certain people with an addiction to online gaming and an attachment to their 8-year old characters, the only thing that'll kill WoW is if Blizzard bankrupts itself.
So never? :P

been a warcraft player since ... forever (back in the olden days of 90s) and pandas were a joke, and they still are in my eyes, I can't help it I can NOT see them any other way in the warcraft universe that is....
I played all WCs myself.
Still, I wasn't that much of a lore junkie when it comes to it, so I thought that pandas were always part of the official lore.
I personally don't find anything wrong with them since they look pretty cool imo.
Which is strange since I am personally not that keen of WC art style (not that it's bad, it's just my personal preference).

bah your right

but its dead for me

replaced by TESO (hopefully....still need that gameplay video  )
And more info too!
They should do it well before release date of GW2 in order to attract people.

They don't want to kill WOW. They just want to make the best MMO ever. This is more than possible. WoW is aging and slowly dying on its own, but it will be a slow death of years. Hopefully TESO will slowly grow just because it is a great game. We'll see.
Assuming that making the best MMO wouldn't kill WoW, lol.
Also, no, it's not possible that they make best MMO ever.
Honestly, why do people use the word 'ever'?
Can the see the future and confirm that no one else will make a better MMO?
Still, even if by some miracle TES:O ends up being the best MMO when it's released (but I doubt it will), it will get killed very soon since by some MMO which will have everything it has plus more original art style and full action combat.

The Elder Scrolls brand is at an all time high right now. Oh, and I like your avatar
It's still not big as SW, though.
Not to mention that there are, other much bigger brands out there.

Umm.. there are already better MMO's on the market than WOW, but they haven't killed WOW. Are you trying to say that McDonalds is the best hamburger restaurant in the world cause no one has put them out of business?

With regard to "ever": In context like I used it and like ZOS used it in their PR release through GI, it is understood by most English speaking natives to mean "so far."

I don't think TESO will kill WoW. WoW has been around for years and I doubt many of its player will just abandon and quit to play TESO.

As much as I would like to say that this game is gonna kill WoW; it honestly won't. WoW have been the leading MMO since like.. I don't even know. Know TESO being more likeable is very much a possibility. I know for me at least.

So many games were supposed to be WoW killers but all have failed. Only Blizzard can kill WoW (with Titan). The best you can hope to do is shrink the number of subscribers. Only GW2 can dwindle its fanbase significantly , but not even it can truly kill it.

Is this a joke? Its greatest Elder Scrolls fans are mostly complaining about it and you think that its customers which is mostly console base will allow them to crush WoW? Let me put this in perspective.. WoW will have more content and probably better writing as TES:O will have a engine that is laggy and you got ok graphics..

Ahh Hello.. Bioware and bethesda have been like the biggest RPG competitors to me.. Bioware's fan base is PC based as Bethesda's is console base.. Do the math..

And I like a MMO with a good community and its not looking to good.. Such as how this thread came to be and plenty more ~ no offense to some...

Fair enough.

Doesn't change the fact that it's wrong since 'so far' and 'ever' have different meanings.
'Ever', in this case, is a term which fan-boys/girls (am not implying that everyone who uses it is a fan-boy/girl) use because they can't control their hype, and developers use because they want to make it sound better and create more hype.

Yeah, not quite OP. If only for the fact that the decent amount of 12-year olds in WoW's population would have to choose between three factions that don't seem to be divided into "good" and "bad".

But in all honesty, Blizzard knows what they're doing. They know how to make a game successful. And I'll be damned if they don't know how to make a game addictive. They force players to cooperate to succeed in endgame material, to hell with the story - that just subtracts from the reason to buy an MMO. Bad news for Warcraft fans? Perhaps, but it still makes for a good class-based MMO.

How do you figure that BioWare's fanbase is PC and Bethesda's console?

The Elder scrolls had a fan base that would have been bigger than WoW but its been highly diminished with the departure from what we had expected and what we got, so no I would say it will just be another alright MMO in the bag with all the others.

i dont think a game can be just alright when it has ELDER SCROLLS behind it.

i'll admit i'm a really devoted fan of the entire series but i am honestly looking forward to this game. WoW died a long time ago for me and this will get me back into mmo's.
