ESO's future does not look good, in my opinion

@Bloodlance, m8, I'm not gonna argue with ya, but that vid of PvP... I have never seen PvP where that many ppl are standing still hitting oneanother =/

that said, I'm still hyped =)

Have to agree, but again, I don't think that this is the intended cinematic. This was merely a small tidbit, at least I hope so :)

I'm sorry to say, in general, the MMO games are not evolving much lately. Problem is money and time, the long standing MMOs have a decade's advantage on newly released MMOs. It takes a very long time to "catch" up to games like WoW and other long standing games if you're unable to stand on the shoulders of giants, which is a rare possibility given the competitive nature of game design. It's a business, not a collaborative research project.

Gamers expect decade-quality MMOs as soon as they're released.

A game needs many years to achieve what gamers expect from it.

Investors needs positive projections to back a game, but with no gamers supporting the game, the investors pull out, and thus the game ebbs out before it can reach a stage where it can compete with long standing competitors.

Only way we'll begin to see truly evolving and great games is if:

  • Game companies collaborate and build upon each other's past experience (ie. not reinventing the wheel every time)
  • Philanthropic elements with a passion for perfection and art is part of the process (ie. making the game for the same reasons you make a piece of art, to be enjoyed with a glass of wine, not to be monetized)
  • Every actor in the process has passion for the process (ie. not just being there for the money)
  • Publishers/Investors aren't holding back the development process

Cheers

Gloom and Doom...all around.. I am sure this is just one in a long line of posts to come..

All opinion, speculation no facts..

But my opinion is I feel ESO has a bright future for it's fans,, but in the end time will tell.. :bonk:

I think in the next few months and when the 'official' ESO forums are launched, I'm going to avoid them completely. I can see a barrage of wow babies crying over everything, trying to get ZOS to nerf like they've done with wow, as well as the people expecting Skyrim online, good luck to those moderators. And a message to Zenimax, stick with your original vision of the game, don't cave in to the idiots.

Sub par animations are not going to cause the death of ESO. Plenty of other factors will though. If you quit playing a game because of graphics or animations you are a very shallow gamer to begin with and a very small minority. The gameplay itself along with features will decide whether this game succeeds or fails. That being said, I have my own reservations concerning gameplay and features....

That's why staunch warriors like ourselves must be there, front and center, to verbally cut down these invaders and keep the game whole and not WoWified.

If you anticipate that happening, you shouldnt avoid the forum, you should be right there on the front line standing up to the wow crybabies.

TESO also has a unique amount of hate because it is based off of a well loved series. A lot of people still feel like if the MMO svcks it will hurt their favorite franchise's reputation, I even disregarded TESO until i actually saw some game play, after seeing the announcement trailer I assumed it would be a WoW clone and me and my friends laughed at the idea.

Over the time I have spent following this game I have also learned that TES has some of most rabid fans in the world. The amount of people that will ferociously attack this game just because it is not a mirror image of Skyrim with coop makes me ashamed to call myself an ES fan. As you stated this is not the majority of the fan base just the the more vocal minority.

In regard to the OP post.

I have been playing a F2P mmo over the past few days because it came on steam and thought why not.

In one of the zones there was a conversation going on and some of the people had been invited into the beta of TESO and they was not impressed. Their comments were. " Combat is flimsy," ; "Animations are not that good."; "graphics were poor for a subscription game."; I doubt it will survive and will be F2P soon after release."; "Gameplay was boring."

Considering the game these people were playing was Neverwinter, Cryptics F2P mmo of D&D and that was their thoughts on TESO. I did mention they was breaking the NDA but they really didn't care and just carried on [censored]ing about the TESO being poorly made.

As a person who likes ES lore and the past single player games I will make my own mind up about the game so when its released I will be playing it, and the above comments are not my thoughts at all on the game as I have yet to play it or even see it in action. So I keep an open mind and never read to much into other peoples comments or reviews on games.

Some though will be swayed by these people and will stay away from the game just on their say so and opinions, and if this is the general consensus of thought from other mmo communities then the very people whom ZOS is trying to target at the moment. They do not have a very good press.

Eh, reported who exactly? I could just see that complaint form now.

"Yes hello Zenimax, I just want to let you know that the fellow by the name of Assscratcher Featherlightly in Neverwinter was breaking the NDA all over the place in zone chat."

I wish I could play neverwinter, but I can't ever get them register my account or answer any email stating I can't register account.

The game play looks fun even if it makes hash browns out of the IP it is based on.

Name another MMO that easily supports 200 people on screen at once where you can have massive RvRvR warfare with keep sieges, synergies etc etc...

Oh and them Rifts? From what I understand those are essentially Anchors to Coldharbour in a nutshell. Another hook...there are quite a few other hooks as well.

So...they have one?

One never know, may be the two companies work it out with each and they can figure out accounts details.... Anyways, it is not our place to say who gets into beta or not, just report them and let ZOS figure how to handle that data. IMHO

Darkfall Unholy Wars, Planetside 2.

You asked.

ESO's hook is not its PvP endgame. It's the TES IP. That is something that truly no other MMO has.

Yes, I did. :prod:

But those games pretty much ONLY have that hook right? if I am not mistaken. They have the synergies as well?

It has many hooks was my point though. In some respects it seems to have leached the successful hooks of several other MMOs.

It being a TES game is simply one of several things that will be drawing people in. It being a RvR based PvP game is just as big if not bigger draw in my opinion then the IP.

I think the TES IP is the biggest draw in terms of determining interest for the game. It is simply just a bigger fanbase. If you exclude WoW's, which I would say you should.

The other things are draws that appeal to different people more strongly. It being an RvR based PVP game is awesome, but I don't think that is what is drawing most people in. Unless you were just speaking about yourself. It seemed like you meant the biggest draw across the board.

I love doing that in TES. Shame it isn't in the game at launch. Hopefully they add it later. Seems like something that would drive people to distraction. Not sure how to handle housing in ESO though. Of course I wouldn't really know how to do it in an MMO anyways.
