ESO's future does not look good, in my opinion

Post » Fri Dec 13, 2013 1:50 am

This is Elder Scrolls Online. And that was your trailer?

Overwhelming very poor reaction to the release trailer all voer the internet. Of all the AAA MMOs this is by the worst release trailer. The animations are really bad and look like a 2007 game.

And now you are expecting people to shell out $60 and $15 a month for yet another theme park MMO with questing on rails?

I expect a lot of replies and anger towards me. But after a few months, when the subs drop, remember this thread.

Right now public opinion is not good for ESO:

http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/12/11/the-elder-scrolls-online-to-launch-april-4-2014/

A lot of you are serious Elder Scrolls fans like me, and want the game to succeed like me. But have we lowered our standards this much? Watch that trailer again and tell me it is anything epic like Elder Scrolls should be.

Right now, and I hate to say this, the new Wow expansion and Wildstar are gonna eat ESO alive.

I wasn't thrilled by it. it was decent. at least it was actual game footage at not some misleading cgi video.

This is exactly what I knew would happen. Just because someone does not agree with your opinion it makes me a devoted WoW fan?

I love Elder Scrolls.

*Pulls out his crystal ball*

It says here that there are no such thing as crystal balls thus future speculation is bad.

I don't guess I'm seeing the problem with animations. My only concern was the fact that they deemed it alright to show pretty severe performance drop in the trailer. It doesn't matter if the footage is from beta, if it doesn't look good then they should've held out on those shots.

That is sooooo weird. I was just thinking to myself how little I care about either of those games.

But the public does, overwhelmingly.

This is what none of you ever get. Public opinion is huge. It will make the game a success. Don't you WANT ESO to be a success?

If you did, you would be a bit more critical.

Most comments on the internet are to complain or bash. This goes double or even triple when it comes to AAA mmos. THe internet is always up in arms about one game or another. Those that like the game and its features and design are much less likely to post anything.

As far as the WoW expansion, people have lambasted that as well.

Wildstar being more of an indy MMO and having an amazing marketing team has hype around it that will only lead to people being underwhelmed when it actually comes out.

A few people screaming on a forum isn't the "public." Please understand that people screaming on a forum is the minority they are not the public.

I have looked on forum after forum after forum. I have talked to friends and co-workers and explored word of mouth from all types of sources including gamers on consoles and PC gamers. I have what I believe to be good sample size much like a poll before an election. I have read countless opinions and gathered heaps of simple common sense from Elder Scrolls fans who can get hundreds of hours from Skyrim; why would they spend $15 a month for a non-open world? I also was in the last closed beta so I cannot break the NDA.

I can say without a doubt, ESO has no chance at maintaining a $60 plus $15 a month subscription base for this game without going free to play within a year.

They are making the same mistake that SWTOR did. Step by step. You cannot release a $15 a month game with regular questing anymore. You can't. You need a big hook. And your IP is not big enough of a hook. Heck, Rift is an EXCELLENT game and it had a great hook with invasions and Rifts and it STILL couldn't maintain the $15 a month.

I care about the game being fun. If the game has to fold all of its dignity and become a clone of other games to be a success, then no I'll happily take a small niche product.

You think you're the only one that's done all of that? I've been following this game religiously for almost 2 years now.

Every day, on every main forum and fan site, and very active in more official outlets (dat B-word). Following interviews, following comments, following the social media, everything.

Is there a population of people that hate the game for some reason or another? Yep. But there's also a [censored] ton of us who love it. You don't matter as much as you think you do is what I'm trying to say, and you're actually not as in the majority as you think you are.

TL;DR omg not everyone likes everything. Game over, dude. Not.

You do know that they probably only need 300k to 500k to actually sustain and make money on this right? Again, the majority that post on the internet do so to complain. If you look over even WoW boards, most of them are complaints. The internet is a horrid place to get a sample size.

In the end it simply comes down to if the game is fun and if you come into teh game not expecting it to be fun because of *list reasons here* it will never be fun to you.

Wow, way to shoot for the stars guys. This is Elder Scrolls. Have your standards dropped so low?

You all seem so content with the game and what you have seen so far. We all should be demanding more from this IP that we love. I just don't get it. Oh well.

I think someone just jumped on a 6 month old bandwagon.

I don't think the animations are bad at all. I've seen a LOT worse in some recent games.

Oh, you're that hook guy from the beta forums huh? I'll say it again, ESO is not Skyrim online. The opinions of puritan single-player ES-heads are not relevant when discussing an MMO.

I'm content with it because I never expected Skyrim Online. Instead I went into it with an open mind and took it as it's own game and listened to the dev interviews about what it was actually going to be like. The fact that it is filled with Elder Scrolls lore is a bonus.
