Everybody...chill.

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 11:38 am

I'm glad everybody is chilled out!

I am so chilled I can hardly type these words!

I wonder what ESO means for the future of single player, solo games lke Skyrim. Are we ever going to get something better or are they switching to MMOs because they make more money?

I don't have the internet access or the real life time for MMOs , and I hope I belong to a significant part of the market....

The combat in Skyrim was lame, and what was even more lame was that most of the quests were basic killing missions, often of a questionable moral standard, to say the least. There was so much imagination put into the looks of the world itself and so little in quest design, which gave it a somewhat bland, dumbed-down commercial feel at times.

Brain dead player just needs to be told who and roughly where the enemy is, then go find, kill the enemy and report back, and he's the boss, wow!

Those aren't "Elder Scrolls" games. A fully-voiced MMO is going to rather expensive. Take TOR for example. It costed 200 million dollars.

Fully voiced is very ill-thought out. Especially considering while it will have some portion of each of the various provinces, they're holding back (as stated in the Game Informer) a large amount from each of the provinces for later expansion content. That means they'll have to fully voice each of those expansions. They will not be frequent at all. They'll also be very expensive unless they want to sacrifice the VO quality.

The best way, IMO, to do voice acting in an MMO is to have main story quests voiced and the rest text with npcs saying basic greetings or short sentences here and there.

I also have the June issue of Game Informer btw.

Classic ES exploration, which is the series strongest feature, and guild wars 2 combat........ they could have done FAR worse.
This, but still, they could have done much better too though.

What worry me is TES 6. Of cours TESO is not developed by Bethesda, but what happens when TES 6 coms out? Those who have played the TESO will have seen every province and locations already, wich will kill the exploration of TES 6.

Then I know who to blame for this abomination.
I wanted an Elder Scrolls MMO as well. If you dislike a game, move on and find something you do enjoy. These games aren't for everyone. The single player forums are over there --->

The whole 3 faction pvp is just a copy paste from DAOC. Thats the whole reason behind their being 3 faction, so they can copy paste the world pvp style from it.

Count me as part of the guilty party. I got my Game Informer in the mail today and had a chance to read the entire article. It started out very weak, but I found the further I read the more excited I got about the game.

I was suprised by that many of the features from the SP games are in the MMO

-Compass + Map markers
-Guardian stones
-Soul Gems
-Creafting and alchemy
-Many dungeons have quests that you would bt pointed to and you have to explore to find

Might as well throw Rage, Brink, and dishonoured into that strange mix then.

I couldn't help but think how much better Skyrim could have been with the money TESO svcked from it.

TESO didn't take anything from it, it was a differently funded project.

I can understand the disdain but we should wait for more information before we truely judge it. It could be game informer got it's facts mixed up it wouldn't be the first time. So let's wait to see more information.

I think skyrim was a fantastic game, good enough is enough in my opinion. Dawnguard is releasing soon, it will surely be an improvement and the community has improved a hell of a lot of skyrim too.
Edit: On a completely irrelevant sidenote, can you even imagine how much money the World of Warcraft has svcked out of not only TES but the entire game industry? The only thing I think is keeping WoW alive is these fond distractions like AoC, Aion, DAOC, Tera, SWTOR, you name it. It seems like wow players go from "man WoW really svcks, I'm gonna try out this new not-bankrupt-yet MMO that is the currently prophesied WoW-killer" and then they get tired of said game and come back to a refreshing world of warcraft, if said "prophesied wow-killer mmo" had never existed the player would have stuck to wow for too long and straight up quit it.
Might as well throw Rage, Brink, and dishonoured into that strange mix then.
I would without a shred of doubt trade a John Carmack for a Skyrim. Even though that is not the case, Skyrim was a magnificent success and is still selling like a BAOWS. Think of how much later the game had been released. It takes time and money, money is relevant to how long the game is developed. If they had had a larger budget they might have still be developing Skyrim. And you would have been playing what? Panda warcraft beta? Battlefield 3? Why not just kill yourself instead amirite?

Pete Hines made an announcement on twitter saying that TESO would not effect the outcome of neither future BGS "works in progress" nor present.

People are treating this as some kind of mayan calendar, like if it releases something horrible will happen, you just won't be able to live with yourself, like you will all be forcibly taken from your homes and brought to an underground zenimax online testing facility where you will for the rest of your lives be doomed to play TESO.
Do you know how many bad games are released every year? More than I care to count. The majority of games that are made are straight up horrible. Why must you concern yourself so gravely on this subject and be so incredibly pessimistic. Why can't you just take the advice of the title of this thread and.... chill? I certainly will be. I'd rather think about the things that could draw me into playing TESO instead of the things I suspect will be horrible.

How is that asking for too much? It's what people want.

Look at Darkfall. Darkfall had fantastic sales because people wanted something different. The game failing had very little to do with the sandbox elements.
DarkFall NEVER, NEVER sold well.

DAOC, since it's launch, has been lauded as having one of, if not the, best PvP in the history of MMO's.

Why in the hell would anyone even think that it makes sense to be upset about somebody copying that? Not to mention, we haven't seen any game with a DAOC-esque PvP system yet, either.

the thing is if this was called ACME Online and the info presented with the pics, the people who are not liking this(including me) wouldnt have cared and would just shrug it off as another been there done that MMO. When zenimax decided to slap the 'Elder Scrolls" moniker onto the game, we are going to voice our opinions, we are not whining, we are not crying we are voicing our concerns and our beliefs.

just like what happend to the gothic series. if jowood wanted to make arcania go for it, but once they slapped the gothic 4 moniker onto the title, then gothic fans took notice and voiced their concerns, when they slapped gothic 4 onto the title you expect certain things, and when gothic 4 removed alot of the things that made gothic, gothic it enraged fans.
