EA, Facebook in running for "Worst Company in America&#3

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 2:25 am

TWC is regional. I think all the other companies are national.

Facebook is pure and utter crap... but they're neck and neck with the changes and complete lack of responsibility EA takes for their products.

But I think I have to go with Facebook. They'd svck out your soul and sell it back to you if they could.

TWC is downright criminal.

Activision/Blizzard hasn't done anything egregious for quite a few years.

You mean besides ruining Call of Duty, Tony Hawk, and the entire music genre in gaming?

They've built their business model around iteration. I don't think there's anything inherently shady about this. Plus, they don't close their servers down just to force you to buy the newest iteration of a franchise, a la EA. And their games are generally of a better quality than EA's; and certainly of a better quality than the knock-offs that EA tries to make of Activision's products.

Surely you aren't calling my baby Battlefield a knockoff? BF 1942 came out a year before the original Call of Duty. I do have to agree that the racing games are knock offs, though.

In my opinion, Facebook charges far too much for its services. No joke, I'm serious; using Facebook costs too much. The price is somewhat obfuscated, but it is definitely there.

You don't pay money, no, but you do pay with information. Information about yourself, the people you know... every datum you put on Facebook is theirs for the taking (as far as law allows/lawyers can weasel). They use it for targeted advertising, they sell it to the highest bidder (and the next highest...), they just generally do their very best to squeeze every last cent out of it.

I don't, either. And I used to have an account on Facebook all those years ago... Does Facebook delete accounts after a certain number of years? I was under the impression they don't ever do that.

EA is by far the worst company. Walmart isn't exactly great but I'd rather deal with them then EA. I hate Facebook but that doesn't make them a bad company. EA is horrible, the track record is huge and they are by far the greediest company out there, even more so then Activision.

Walmart should win this for, among other things, Dead Peasant Insurance. They aren't the only company that does it, but I'm pretty sure they're the only one in the running.

Why aren't Goldman Sachs and Kaiser Permanente in this?

I'm not American so I could not honestly vote, but EA is definitely one of the biggest pests in gaming industry IMO. Stupid cyber imperialists.

I'd have to choose between M$ and Comcast

I have a deep, deep, hatred for both of those companies.

They've been on the verge of bankruptcy for... well, probably for years, but it's only this last year that you hear about it extensively in the news. Other than this it's probably for poor customer service, long lines, packages conspicuously disappearing (seriously, don't ever send something insured- I think that must be part of the postal union's retirement plan).

Activision/Blizzard hasn't done anything egregious for quite a few years. (That'll change when Diablo 3 comes out, but until then) EA's stepped into the breach! Huzzah! EA is leading the general decline with its nickel-and-diming and poor quality games.

Sure... COD hasn't completely shunned PC community at all. I mean they do not allow ranked dedicated servers forcing PC to use Peer to peer systems and they havn't made one thing different in terms of graphics within the game that doesn't even attempt to utilize DX11 or DX10 fully and that WoW is arguably ruined since the whole Activision/Blizzard thing turning THAT into a cash cow BUT they could do worse?? Like??? Charge for DLC on a sub plan whoops did that... ummm require 3rd party programs to play their games.. does that too. At least EA uses their own network and not a 3rd party aka Origin.

So yes if Bobby isn't on the worst company contest then the contest is invalid.

Activision has been more scummy than EA overall this generation, but they've held a pretty low profile over the last couple of month while EA scandals have been brought to the spotlight. EA is practically a saint compared to the larger non-game companies in that list though.

Bank of America gave us the run-around for years while we tried to refinance our mortgage, saying that things were going well right up until we received the foreclosure notice, at which point they ceased all contact. They even sent us papers saying that they'd successfully reduced our house payment, only to say that it was a mistake a few days later.

This is a story I've heard countless times the past few years. Bank of America is just a tad worse than EA running a few video game series into the ground.

My desire to see EA eat a little more crow aside, I do think BoA should win.

*people vote that X is a horrible company*
*supports them anyway by buying their product, or using their service*

Also banks are far worse, you know [censored] up the economy to line their pockets. Thats a bit worse than origin or constant changes.

I don't think EA is that bad...I mean, they did give us the awesome Sims franchise (although they can do a better job fixing up bugs and glitches that pop up with every new Sims 3 expansion). Everything else of theirs I can take or leave.

Facebook...eh, I think everyone's complaints about FB has a lot to do with the site being constantly changed up (most recently, the new Timeline format).

I don't know what to say about Comcast (even though they owned G4, which DirecTV dropped)...and I can't go into my thoughts on BoA without the risk of breaking the forum's "no politics" rule...

The results are in!

EA v COMCAST:
EA!!!!!!!!!!
TRUMPS COMCAST WITH 66.73%

EA proves that it can hold its own against the big boys in the fight for the Golden Poo! Although Comcast put up a valiant fight, it couldn't withstand the constant barrage of Origin, Day-1 DLC, and ME3 endings. This one's a shocker to me, frankly, folks! I wasn't sure nickel-and-diming on entertainment and a general attitude of laziness and disdain for customers could withstand the ubiquity and persistence of a greedy telecoms giant! But EA did it! EA DID IT.

FACEBOOK v AT&T:
AT&T!!!!!!!!!!
JUST BARELY SURVIVES AGAINST THE FACEBOOK MONSTER WITH 54.26%
Let's be honest: this fight could have gone either way. Well done to AT&T for just generally being a bigger pain in the [censored] than Facebook! Well fought, Facebook; you have nothing to be ashamed of.

Events at this year's WCAs are turning out to be brutal. The entertainment company that could; and the telecoms king that fights off all attempts at its throne!

Tune in again soon for the next round!

I think the biggest gripe with Facebook is their rather cavalier attitude to privacy, and their "oops, we won't do it again (until next time)" response every time they get caught.

Timeline is quite the feat of form over function, though. I think it competes with Skyrim's UI in terms of overall uselessness.
