Fallout New Vegas Expansion ideas

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 11:27 am

although its the 15th since the original so its new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new vegas.

 You sir get a cookie :cookie: .

As for the Forral / gabriel77dan conversation: I think forral has a point with expanding the game world new creatures and items wise.
Not only fixing but enhancing playstyle through form lists and thought of "factions" for lack of a better word.
As I do not know if you are familiar gabriel77dan with OOO, but I am sure others are not. Its goal spread out to add content where the game was lacking.
The later versions of it added outfits, weapons, and tactics to enemies at the same time new creatures, traps, even tweaks to physics in game.

Then as you say gabriel77dan the style of story based narrative in fallout makes extensions / expansions in the vanilla world tricky at best.
FO3 you may have ben able to get away with it, but from the little we know about NV would suggest, those elements from OOO are already in, and that the games narrative may become very bugged with large tampering outside of gameplay. which was not an issue with Oblivion.

Edit Gah I messed up a bit here, Gabriel you are saying that large dialogue / story arcs are the issue when adding to the "developed game" right?
Forral and you are saying you want more story, or just better developed game interaction within the proscribed world map?

Yeah kinda.

I don't have a problem with enhancing the game really, (adding new clothes, armor, maybe a generic hostile faction, some new weapons, giving new tactics, upping the challenge).
So yeah it's about new stuff colliding with preexisting storylines and how that might implicate on the ending narration. (summary)

this would kill two birds with one stone: i'd like to see some "peek into the past" DLC that would get into Harold's story, somehow. his return to his vault, what finally led him to leave the area, and so on. this would bring back Harold (in flashback form, at least) and would give us even more material from Van Buren.

Dogtown sounds fantastic, especially if you spent most of it in the upper levels, with the lower levels getting progressively more dangerous as you approach ground-level...kinda like an urban Ewok Village or something.

completely unrelated: am i the only one who was horribly disappointed NOT to see a Tardis in MZ?

One would naturally have to be careful to not add alternative endings to quest lines unless one was also willing to modify the end-game narration accordingly, much like one shouldn't add a new type of shotgun unless one is also willing to model and animate the weapon accordingly. Without doing all of the required work, your additions would simply be incomplete and your expansion wouldn't yet be in a state ready for release. I was mostly interested in seeing the expansion flesh out areas of the game that were lacking and expanding upon those that were good however. To me the general idea is extremely simple, so it's quite frustrating to find that it's so difficult to relay.

What exactly is done to the game is not what's important to me. It's the method of implementation that I'm really interested in: "Rather than adding something new in a separate, remote corner of the world, I would like to see a comparable amount of content added and integrated into what's already present." That qouted sentence is what I care about. The actual content provided is largely unimportant to me.

I'd like to see something in Mexico for a DLC. The scenario I'm imagining is this:

Some Mexican city (real or fictional) is booming after the apocalypse as a result of having lots of arable farmland that is, for some reason, somewhat immune to effects of radiation, and as a result a city or town has sprung up around that. Of course, the major drawback with their success is waves of immigrants from the United States, drawn to Mexico for the chance to have a stable food supply, or just participate in the booming economy. The DLC could play out as a parody of the immigration debate in the U.S., with some post-apocalyptic Mexican culture thrown in.

American illegally immigrating to Mexico. Ironic.

I'd like to see DLC that adds new companions/followers, and allows you to take along more that one humanoid+non-humanoid companion at once.

It would be interesting to meet a well developed follower that comes from whatever place a DLC might add.

Personally, I'd like a darker DLC. Something that's kinda freaky maybe, in a Doom 3ish sort of way. I like Area 51 as long as it isn't a Zeta rehash.

Also, I like ones that expand the storyline. F3, it would have been so sweet if say your character had chosen to FEV the water, then you could co back to Raven Rock and work for the Enclave. Maybe the Brotherhood would have sent assassins, ThreeDog wouldn't have anything to do with you, Fawkes lives long enough to try and kick your booty for poisoning the waterhole, ect. I would love DLCs that increase roleplaying options. When Oblivion came out I always wanted to work for the Mythic Dawn and use Martin's trust to use him for Darkside of the Force. ;-)

So I'd like to see those sorts of examples be a guide in creating a DLC. Make people totally hate your guts...and for good reason--you killed the White Knight of the game. Then when you go to Hollywood the top dog there is evil and thinks you're just the kind of merc he needs, or alternatively...blows your brains out if you do all the good, idealistic things. Bigger reactions, bigger consequences for your choices (especially endgame choices).

And really, I'd prefer to START the DLCs I'd have to find them or go to specified areas instead of just suddenly there's a new radio signal. Really kinda kills the realism. ;-)

I would like to see a DLC type thing, that takes you to a new area. This one would be heavy on the combat. (I love story, but I don't have an idea for that yet.)

You travel to a new location, in either some portion of Nevada or a surrounding state. In this area are three factions. Two of them were at one time one in the same, but they split due to the occurance of the other faction. This new group is made up of remnant ghoul soldiers, who have trained what end up being the best soldiers around. Small groups, high efficiency. They could come from another country, which could give us a very small insight on what happened somewhere else.

So, during this civil war, this remnant faction doesn't make clear their agenda, and attack both sides. About the time you show up, the two split factions are deciding whether to bind and crush thief common enemy. You become the catalyst. You prove your worth to one or all factions, and help their decisions along, whether diplomatically, or from the shadows.

The combat intensifies, and you are thrust into hostile battlefields as a free agent, and you can't ever be sure who has your back.

Each faction has a specific rewards for siding with them, as does each when you destroy them. This adds replay. Also, your playstyle affects the ending. If you chose sniper roles, your ending will be different than a front line soldier.

Thoughts?

what kind of expansions would you like to see?
For me, I'd like one where you go to the capital wasteland and see whats been going on for the past 3 years, such as how clean the water is, and other stuff. but you can import the decisons you made from your fallout 3 play through, but not your character, (2 mute people together staring at each other would be kinda boring, or they get an unnoficial voice actor for the wanderer)
what would you like to see?

I really wouldn't mind that idea if they could do it easily. Otherwise, I'd like more Point Look Out scaled maps with missions and new gear/weapons. Avoiding the narrow terrain of the Pitt and Anchorage.

EDIT: Kiebler, I like the "War" soldier idea in a wide open battlefield for a change of pace. Once the battle's over, you can explore the area freely, before the battle restarts when you're ready.

I like the "DLC companions" idea. If they do that they should add another super mutant companion.

ANYTHING but Area 51... >.> That site is way too famous and it seems like the only way it could go is another Zeta... But- maybe part of Arches state park/ Canyonlands? Either one would present unique opportunities for storyline and conflicts... That or some o' them thar Injuns. :B

I would like an expansion set in some Arizona region populated primarily by various tribals.

The main conflict in the area revolves around Caesar's Legion and the Daughters of Hecate trying to wrestle control of the area's various tribes. There is also a small NCR camp that is trying to retake and rebuild Fort Abandon (or an equivalent since its geographic location is unspecified) after it was destroyed by CL earlier in their war. You will also get to meet an enigmatic bandaged man (Joshua Graham) who wants your help in instilling chaos and terror to the entire area.

I really want to see what's happening outside the post-apocalyptic America....
Maybe, Fallout 5 (If it really exists) could take place outside America...
But, the matter is... What country?

My ideas for DLC would have to include one where the hanged man/burned man becomes a companion then finally there would be that evil follower everyone wants. Also dogtown would be interesting, make more sense and would probably be comparable in size to the pitt maybe bigger. Also I dont know but depending on Marcus and his story/significance in the standard FO NV It would be cool if we could get a DLC that had a strong focus on him, his back story and make him a companion.

Nah instead of a companion DLC I'd rather have a new companion with each DLC.
That way we have another thing to look forward to when a DLC is announced.

I really really really really really really really really really really really REALLY hope they put Hanged Man in one of the DLC's.

(Oh, and that we can take the companions out of the DLC area. (Even though you're just a simulation program I still love you and will never forget you Benjamin!!))
