Fantasy Baseball 2012

I might have to auto draft tonight because I'm flat out wiped from my home town draft today. Plus I want to watch the last episode of walking dead.

Good luck to everyone though and sorry if I dont make it.

Can't get my strat figured out.

Keep thinking, it'll be so much easier to manage if I have my TES League team match my other fantasy team.

But then again...technically, I ought to aim higher and try to do better.

I think I am pretty happy with my team (which from past experience means it is probably going to be bad).

I think I may have reached for Youk at the start of the 5th round but I really needed a 3B and I didn't think I could wait 21 picks for it to come around again. I was considering Arod, Aramis Ramirez, Brett Lawrie and Youk in that spot and decided Youk would bounce back and was the best choice. It turns out I could have gotten ARod later (at 71) but that would have meant giving up either McCann or Carl Crawford and I don't think I would have done that.

My pitching is pretty slim right now but that is usually the case. I don't like drafting any pitching early, but especially RPs. Considering I didn't take a pitcher until the start of the 9th round I don't think :

Wainwright
J Johnson
T Hanson
M Scherzer
Billingsly
Volquez

along with 4 decent closers is too bad.

Assuming everyone stays healthy, which is the huge assumption for everyone, I think I can complete in enough catagories each week to be in contention.

Sbr, I sent you a trade request. You're light on pitcher, so I offered Jon Lester for Giancarlo Stanton straight up. I'll throw in Ted Lilly as well, if that's what it takes. You're light on pitching, I'm light on hitting, so i figure we can strike a deal.

Damn auto-pick loaded me up on starting pitching, and I have one true reliever. Stupid computer.

I doubt I will accept that, I can find scads of injury prone al east pitching on the waiver wire, I won't be able to find 30+he and 100+ rbi there.

I will think about it though.

You know I wanted Reyes and Cruz, so see if you can come up with something. I glanced at your team, but I don't have time to really look at things right now.

What if I threw in Anibal Sanchez instead of Lilly?

Sorry, that wouldn't change things at all. My team is light on pitching because I intentionally made it that way. My attitude towards pitchers is similar to my attitude towards kickers and wide receivers in fantasy football, I use them because everyone else does and I kinda have to use them. I am almost never willing to pay much for pitching, and one of the best young hitters in the game is too much for ANY pitcher. I wouldn't trade Stanton for Halladay or Verlander, much less Lester. Based on past experience I am rather certain I will be able to find at least one SP on the waiver wire who will be at least as good as Lester, or a collection of guys that will do enough.

Also, like I said last night I like my team at the moment and am not ready to make any trades. I may be as the season starts and I realize how badly I screwed things up, but not now.

I will keep you in mind as the season goes on, but as I said above I would be surprised if I made any trades before May.

EDIT: Does anyone else use the Android mobile ESPN fantasy baseball app? I can't figure out how to switch between my two teams.

EDIT2: Nevermind, it works now.

EDIT: I missed one player, Jered Weaver last year, which changes things a bit, but not a whole lot. 60% would have seemed pretty impressive, 55% is much less impressive to me for some reason. I had already written the whole thing so I am not going to go back and change it.

I'm actually surprised how predictable the very top SPs seem to be each year (though I only looked at the 2 years that are available for our league-2010&2011). I assumed there would be more high draft picks that failed and more low round/undrafted guys that ended up really good.

2011

Top 10 drafted Bolded were not in End of season Top 10
Halladay
Lincecum
Lee
Felix
Lester

CC
Verlander
Kershaw
Hanson
Jhymanz

End of season Top 10* (round drafted) Bolded were not drafted in Top 10
Verlander (4)
Kershaw (5)
Halladay (1)
Lee (2)
Weaver (7)
Shields (21)
Kennedy (22)
Hamels (7)
Haren (7)
CC (4)

2010

Top 10 drafted Bolded were not in End of season Top 10
Lincecum
Halladay
Felix
CC
Greinke
Haren

Wainwright
Lester
Verlander
Lee

End of season Top 10* (round drafted) Bolded were not drafted in Top 10
Halladay (2)
Wainwright (5)
Felix (2)
Jhymanz (10)
Oswalt (13)
Weaver (16)
CC (3)
Price (18)
Lee (6)
Verlander (5)

55% of the Top 10 SPs drafted were in the Top 10 at the end of the year. I always figured pitching was much more volatile than that; I wonder what it looks like when you go down another 10 to the Top 20. I am not going to do that tonight but I may tomorrow.
