Fear of spiders

Post » Tue Jan 22, 2013 2:16 pm

Okay i was wondering if anybody felt the same way about spiders in skyrim. They give me the freaking chills man! Im so afraid of spiders in real life (my girlfriend removes spiders in our home) I mean that noise when they creep up on you and you haven't seen them yet, its like *thub* thub*thub* then you turn around and [censored] your pants, gives me the chills. My point is does anyone else feel that way? Maybe with other creatures in the game?

Thanks :)

While i don't actually fear spiders or have any form of arachnophobia in real life; i'm actually kind of freaked out by them as well sometimes. Yeah, like you said, the sound they make when they move is just creepy.

But i just like to imagine that each Spider is Shelob from LOTR and that my Dawnbreaker is Sting.

/obvious LOTR reference.

On PC? Get mods. Not on PC, then  attempt in any way possible to nullify the fear of spiders (not very likely i know)

I find it even harder to play with the No Spiders mod since it's simply too hilarious seeing giant bears coming at me.

No, the spiders are too big for me to be afraid of them. If they were smaller then I would be very afraid of them. The spiders in MM the dark messiah terrify me because I fear spiders in rl. I try to kill spiders in rl but because I'm so afraid of them I miss, then run away. I make my husband kill the spiders for me in rl.

Yeah, same for me. If they were small I would cry like a little girl every time I saw them.

I am not afraid of any kind of crawlers/bugs/flying bastards etc, but I can't even look at the snake on TV. I am so glad there are not many snakes in Skyrim, at least I haven't run into any so far. I think I would summon Dragon to fight that snake, no way I would get close to it.

But I feel ya guys, who are afraid of them spiders. Must be tough.

"Dovah, it's just a snake though."

"IT IS A DEMON, I HAVE NEVER SEEN ITS LIKES BEFORE IN SKYRIM! BURN IT! BURN IT NOW"

"But it's just a sn-"

"I SAID DO IT RIGHT NOW"

"Ok :<".

That's even creepier, for basically the same reason I fear minecraft spiders much, much more than Skyrim spiders. They plunged themselves into Uncanny Valley.
Skyrim spiders don't scare me because they look like, well, real spiders. Not really though, but they look realistic, and move like one as well.

Hmmm, specifically arachnephobia? you can either avoid it like with the modification shown above (if you're on PC or xbox 360).
Or you can naturally face your fear with instinct, which is what I'd do. Aye, I myself have got acridophobia but I deal with it well.

As you can imagine, locusts, crickets, grasshoppers are quite common these days; depending upon where you live exactly.
I've dealt with the phobia by simply following what my unconscious brain does against the threat that I've perceived: squish it.

It works most days, hell and I've extended it to all types of insects that bother me: moths, flies, nuptial ants, cockchafers, blue bottles.
In real life or games, I'd suggest to do the same. Just follow what your body wants to do, offering your nature to do what it does best.

Unless you're a usually flightful person, this should work as well as it has done for me. The instinctual part of your brain might
even decide to ignore it. After all, most spiders are not aggressive to humans unless provoked. So they're pretty harmless.

The last time in rl I tried to kill one. It lifted it's leg and waved at me, really freaked me out. I was screaming and runing away at the same time.

I can't stand spiders IRL, but the ones in Skyrim don't bother me all that much (well, beyond the expected "crap, giant spider :ahhh: " when you're low level.)

Spiders? Na, not in the slightest once I had a decent weapon to hand. Though early on they can be tricky.

Chaurus on the other hand..........................................

I'm glad and sad that I don't have such far reaching Fears, Glad that it doesn't Hinder me, Sad that it doesn't hinder me. theres a charm in being genuinely fearful of an enemy type and being out of your element.

What is it about spiders that makes so many people so scared of them IRL? Most of them aren't dangerous at all, and even the poisoneus ones can be killed with no effort.

From what I've encountered in Skyrim, (and I think I've encountered pretty much everything), it's the Spriggans which freak me out the most. But it's only mild freak-out.
