Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:14 pm

All rignt you're saying....the game's just been released and already he's complaining. But I have a problem playing: the game freezes ramdomly whether moving or viewing the landscape. The install configured my game for 'high' customization. Any ideas?

My PC specs are:

Win 7 Pro 64-bit
AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE
8G Corsair 1600 BE DDR3 memory
4 500G SATA HDD
MSI NF980-G65 motherboard

this is just a temp suggestion, if it even works,.. turn down view distances and fade distances some, and wait for a patch
these issues were actually mentioned as some of the faults with the game in reviews.

all the faults listed were things that a future patch will have fixed tho... :)

EDIT: oh, and quick save... alot

Yeah mine is lagging alot but the game is beautiful i also trying gamebooster i downloaded and that is not working on to cut down on the lag they need a quick patch fast for this but this seems to be the problem with the game engine and also now days it seem like they ship games this way knowing they can patch.

Havin the same issue, NVIDIA GTX 460. It may be a DX11 issue? Basically, from what I can tell, the game is only using 15-30% of the GPU power instead of the whole thing for some reason, causing lots of stuttering and crappy framerates... they'll patch it soon I bet, we'll most likely just have to tough it out till then...

what resolution are you running at? Just because the installer "thinks" your machine can handle everything set on high, in practice this isn't always the case.

try reducing screen-rez for a start (ie if you're running in 1280x1024 then run in 800x600). If that fixes the problem then you know you need to play around with gfx settings to get high framerates (ie run at 1280, but turn down texture quality and view distances)

Hey, having same problem as above. My GFX card is a 9800M gts. It auto detected high settings. Ive messed around with it, and put everything possible literally at the best performance setting possible to the point where i cant actually see things 10 feet in front of me. I noticed that im getting the exact same frame rate as when I was at high settings. The frame rate is so bad it's pretty much unplayable at the moment. I also tried setting it up from the Nvidia graphics controller. Gonna try to get the newest video driver maybe.

I'm getting pretty awful FPS as well even though I could run Fallout 3 at near max settings. Running Windows 7 64 bit with 4 GB of RAM, a 2.13 GHz Intel dual core, and a 9800M GS. Hopefully this is fixed up soon, 12 FPS on bottom of the barrel video settings is kind of depressing.

Hopefully....I get [censored] fps on areas of the strip and when I talk to people. I have a 9800m GS also. I checked the card and it doesn't seem like the game is asking a lot from it which makes me wonder.

To be quite honest, for a brand new released game, there are less bugs and issues than what players are used to.

Maybe I am just lucky, but the stuttering/choppiness is the only thing I have issues with.

1: The mouse lag is GONE!!! Runs smooth as silk.
2: The game is set on Ultra Maximum detail, completely maxed out, and on a PC that isn't that up to date. 1920x1080 resolution as well.

The choppy stuff is going to be fixed, and I will deal with it. Players need to relax and enjoy, it is Fallout, time to waste countless hours finding every nook and cranny.

If you use Nvidia Cards try updateing your Drivers. New one came out on the 18th and from what I am reading it helps with the lag.

Nah, New Vegas is a DirectX9 game, so it doesn't touch any DX11 features. Are you using the newest video driver? If not, have you tried an older one? If no, try the newest one. :D Same goes with audio drivers.

Nope - just did that. Absolutely no difference at all. The only problems I'm having are when human NPCs around me are speaking, or I watch their actions as they speak, or get close enough to one of them to interact; UNBEARABLE choppiness. Other than that, if I'm not looking at a human NPC, everything runs smoothly. Even enemies are fine! Combat isn't a problem, though I was expecting it to be worse than the NPC problems. Very disappointing, but hopefully it gets patched.

I totally know what you're going through haha - same problems. It's awful, and doesn't really make much sense.

I just updated my drivers and I'm still having the same exact problem with dialogue - as soon as somebody starts talking, the game slows down unbearably. I'm running a GTX 460 myself.

I have the exact same problem! I have a 9800m GTS, and it runs perfectly fine until a human NPC shows up - and then it laaaaaaaaags. Like, 5 fps lag. Or worse. And it generally only happens when they're doing an animation, but not always. It's very strange and very frustrating.

Okay, cool! So I'm not the only one. I was REALLY worried for a second. I almost wished I'd bought a console version instead. I decided to chance it with the PC version this time just for the G.E.C.K. and this is what I get! Oh well, I've got a lot of school related things I need to do while they work out a patch. But the sooner the better, yes? :)

Having same issue. Getting 5-15 fps with my GTX480 most of the time. Seems to be the worst around NPC's. Pretty bad, considering the game looks like its straight from 2004. BC.

Going to have to mirror the other sentiments here that the game runs distressingly poorly on my GTX 460

Probably going to set this down for a bit until a patch is forthcoming or somebody finds a reasonable workaround, because even lowering the settings far below what I ought to be able to handle doesn't seem to alleviate the problems completely

It does appear to be considerably laggier around NPCs. I can get 60 staring off into the landscape but then I turn around and stare at an NPC and suddenly 12 FPS.

Hey all, I'm running on Windows 7 64-bit, 4GB of RAM, DuoT9400, and a 9700M GT. Got all the latest drivers and all that.

Everything goes fine until I run into an NPC. Things'll start to get laggy, and heaven forbid, if I try talking to them the [censored] goes bananas. Combat is fine. Dialogue is almost impossible though.

In a sick sort of way, I'm glad to see that others are having a similar problem (maybe that means it's fixable/patchable?).

WTB fix, I have tried so many other things, and probably messed other ends of my computer up just to get it running smoothly so I can get past the starting area. I'll just live with it for now.

Running on a 9800m GT with plenty o processing and ram.

im having the same issue. i have a amd 955 @ 3.8 and a 5870. more than enough. it seems to be the very same problem as fallout 3 had. i tried the fixes that worked for that, editing the ini user file, changing iFPSClamp=0 to iFPSClamp=60 (no luck, i didn't see a difference) and i tried to use fps limiter ( but when i try to use the limiter bat file, it wont start new vegas, i just get a error message). is there a way to get fps limiter to work with steam games?

heres a thread with info about fallout 3's stuttering problem that i was referring too.
