hardcoe Mode Thread #1

Post » Wed Dec 01, 2010 10:47 pm

Question: I will be playing hardcoe Mode on first playthrough like a lot of you, but as I did in Fallout 3, I will be turning off crosshairs, anyone else?

At first I was going to but then I figured that picking stuff up would just get annoying, even more so when it's a cluster of items. So I'll prolly leave it on for ease of interaction.

Edit: if it's only when my weapon is out I'll disable them but just running around I kind of want one.

I am curious as to the extent of the requirement to eat and drink. I hope that it actually requires you to eat regularly. Also, has there been any mention of a sleeping requirement? If we never have to sleep that would really take away from the overall gameplay (hardcoe mode). I feel like once you get to 30+ hours (in-game time) your character should start moving sluggishly. At 48 he should begin falling/stumbling and having trouble keeping his eyes open and suffer from blurred vision. Around 80 he should just collapse and risk being killed while sleeping. Just some ideas. I hope something like this makes it into the game. I practically played Fallot 3 in "hardcoe mode" (self-imposed). I am looking forward to this mode the most, I hope I am not let down.

Well I am just glad you can turn it off whenever. I probably will use it on my first playthrough, but if the the hunger/sleep stuff gets too annoying then I will just go back to normal and hope some mods can fix the annoyances.

That's a good question. Maybe they'll adjust the timescale to something like 5 or 10 for hardcoe mode.

If they don't I'm not even touching the game till I a mod for a decent timescale gets around.

Needs at the kind of timescales we're used to in modded FO3 are immersive, in vanilla timescale they're just flat-out infuriating.

It will probably in the effect of SPECIAL and skill debuffs like minus of PER, END, CHR(you'll be grumpy without sleep)

Fallout: New Vegas hardcoe Mode Earns Players "Special Reward"

Playing Fallout: New Vegas in hardcoe mode could earn gamers more than just prestige with their peers.

Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming Fallout: New Vegas is known to have a hardcoe mode that will be much tougher than the regular mode. Obsidian said that players would earn a major achievement/trophy for their trouble, but an early screenshot has indicated that a simple achievement might not be all that's awarded.

The screenshot supposedly shows the prompt screen in Fallout: New Vegas that pops up when gamers must decide whether they want the game to go hardcoe or not (though the mode can be turned off later). The screen reads: "If you activate hardcoe mode now and maintain it through the end of the main storyline, you will receive a special reward."

The language used is vague, but seems to point to another reward outside from just an achievement or trophy, because many might not find an increase to their Gamerscore all that "special." Considering how much New Vegas's hardcoe mode stacks the odds against players, an in-game reward like an amazing set of power armor or a new alien blaster would make sense.

The mode changes various major aspects of the game: ammunition has weight, players must regularly eat and drink, players need to sleep, stimpacks restore health over time and don't heal broken limbs, and Rad-away also cures radiation poisoning over time rather than instantly. It's a more realistic take on living in a nuclear apocalyptic wasteland. Exactly what reward is being referred to here, whether it be an achievement or something more, will have to wait until Fallout: New Vegas is released on October 19, or at least until someone gets a good look at the strategy guide.

I'm not sure if I got one thing right, and I'm hearing various stuff from few people who already have the game.

In hardcoe mode, you do not get any healing on rest/sleeping, is that right?

And I don't mean limb recovery, I do know that you can't heal tham with sleep on hardcoe, I just mean general healing?

Thanks for the answer mates.

That would be difficult. In the FWE mod healing while sleeping is based on strength and endurance, crippled limbs don't heal, but damaged ones do.

Probably a perk or weapon to use in another character.

hardcoe is what makes me want this game even more gonna be so challenging dealing with deathclaws or goodness know what, while having toi worry about if you eaten or thristy etc. Add more relistic way of playing can't wait to get it Friday. To add really think hardcoemode is going to make the game alot longer you can't just be gun blazing everywhere and must look after companions not that I go gun blazing even on normal modes anyway I am very cautious and take my time with things. Deathclaws still scare the hell out of me when they appear unexpectedly thats why I tend to always move slow around the waste.

Not likely, would conflict with preorder packs, immersion, and all that other crap.

My only question is this:-
How do we know when to eat/sleep. Is there a bar or like a warning pops up on the screen? Because the latter wuld be hard to prepare for IMHO.

By the HP bar there will pop up a "SLP" text for when you need to sleep.
At first it will be green I think, that means it's going to be a while before you need to sleep.
Then it's going to turn yellow which means you should probably finish up what you're doing and go to sleep.
Then it will turn red which means "GO TAKE A DAMN NAP!!!!" :)
Oh and the same for water, starvation, radiation and limb damage.
