Who said anything about buying this?

The problem everybody especially the OP tend to have is that this DLC EXIST AT ALL.

Because they are making this instead of Return to Morrowind: Vivec's revenge or something...

Well I suppose when Beth makes a game they expect people to buy it, of course this is JUST a wild hunch I could be wrong. :teehee:

Anyway, they could have used the time and effort put into this, to make the next meaty DLC better and up to par or better than Dawnguard (which would be awesome).

Where and when were people asking for a DLC to build our own house? I visit these forums a lot and I certainly have not seen threads asking for house building.

You might want to visit them more often. Here's the first that comes to mind:

www.gamesas.com/topic/1400789-poll-if-they-were-to-add-build-up-your-own-house-town-into-a-dlc-then-where-would-you-like-it-to-be

Do a search and you'll find more.

My god people!! It's a little DLC to tie us over until the next major DLC is released, why is it so hard to understand this??? Gstaff has already said that it was a small team of developers working on Hearthfire and the main group was still working on the major DLC. All this is, is a cookie before supper nothing more, nothing less. If you PCer's say nay to this DLC so be it you guys already have mods that do the same thing but ME as a console player would love to be able to build my own home and it was granted.

Considering that Skyrim is their best-selling game ever? ... No, Bethesda have not lost touch
with their fanbase.

So now explain how game sales relate to Bethesda catering to the core fans of the franchise.

Crysis 2 sold more than Crysis and they sure as hell didn't keep in touch with the fans that made them what they are.

I've done a search for house building and it's either mod discussions, discussions for other games or very results coming up that are actually relevant. People ask for Spears, Werebears, Acrobatics/Athletics and Spell Crafting much more than house building.

I wouldn't say they've lost touch, in the context of DLC; Hearthfire is clearly only meant to be a small novelty DLC among larger, more significant releases (if Hearthfire represents the smallest & least ambitious DLC, I'd like to think Dawnguard represented a middle area, with much larger DLC in Skyrim's future).

I found the video to be slightly pathetic, and Bethesda either can't develop an RPG with any sophistication and intricacy, or have chosen not to post-TES3; but Hearthfire doesn't cost much and is altogether optional, so I'm not inclined to complain about its existence.

It's just [a little] more Skyrim that we can take or leave as we like.

I disagree, Bethesda is in touch, they are doing exactly what majority people want. What the problem is i think, is that what the majority of people want now is not the same thing the majority of long time TES fans want. But Bethesda wants to make the big bucks so majority rules which there is nothing wrong in doing of course, their company, their games.

Dawnguard to me was a fine addition, added another transformation, arrow crafting, and a good storyline. Wasn't the longest story I ever played but it was decent. It still gave many features that should have been in the game to begin with, but Dawnguard was still ok. Personally, I loved Dawnguard.

Honestly, I think Bethesda is just releasing a few smaller dlcs to keep people interested and to finish off the deal with Microsoft. Then, they will release a expansion for all platforms at the same time.

I don't see how adding free stuff justifies expecting people to buy a DLC. That's like I own a store and you walk in and I say "Here, have this chocolate bar for free, now buy this refrigerator."

It's called PROMOTION every company does it  Haven't you ever seen a " buy on get one free " sale ??

After lots of meditation and thinking, I've concluded that Bethesda only wanted to troll Microsoft for buying timed exclusivity.

...

Or they've lost their touch. I don't really care anymore.

But I'm still going to buy their games, make no mistake. I wouldn't throw away some of my favourite franchises (TES, FO) for something like DLC.
Even if the games themselves are letdowns, the world makes it all worth it. And if a game can keep me entertained for 350+ hours, I'd say it's worth it.

i have an huge problem with this statement. Considering I, myself bought Skyrim because Oblivion was a great experience for me, and I had hoped they built on what they had done already. In turn they actually took a dive in my opinion.

It's a five buck dlc that allows players to create a home to (hopefully) mirror their playstyle and deepen the rpg experience. I doubt the adoption system will be revolutionary, but it's there for those who wish to make use of it. Not every quest needs to be about killing things, right?

It's 5$. I pay more for food.

I mentioned the free content because this is just a bit above what we got for free, thus the low price.

And again, if they could've used that effort for the actual big DLC, they could've used the effort from the Mounted Combat as well...
... or to make a cure for cancer, but Skyrim is more important.

That's exactly what I was thinking of posting. This marks the end of their exclusivity arrangement and as far as I'm concerned, marks the approach of better things. Dawnguard and Hearthfire both fill niches that some people will like, some people won't. I think we're on the way to the quest and storyline DLCs now that the mandatory fluff is out of the way.

The sky is the proverbial limit from here on out. I hope the future installments become less "That stuff from the Gamejam video" and more "here is another story we wanted to tell you." Considering the fact we're approaching the one year marker, I don't think they're going to be able to keep interest just by introducing different gameplay elements alone such as weapons or specific spells after people have had a solid year to get everything they wanted done, done.

Exactly which means Beth are listening to their fan base, mark my words..... Everything that was shown in the Game jam vid will make it's way into the game, either by being a small DLC on it's own or as a bonus included in another larger DLC.

They're being smart. We knew smaller DLCs would be released - I believe it's been said many times - and isn't it a good thing that the smaller ones are Xbox-exclusive rather than the larger ones?

I'm pretty disappointed too. The house building shouldn't be a primary focus for a DLC but something in addition to some major content.
they said it is just a small dlc so the people whould have fun while waiting for a big DLC to come (atleast i head)

in hopes that the next dlc doesnt base itself of the undead, maybe the expansion (as i am sure they will have one) will let you go to the remains of Morrowind, or let you go to a Daedric Realm.
