Hearthfire bugs report. Part 1

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 8:57 am

I can't activate any of my display cases in Lakeview.

Most likely working as intended. You can find cases just like them at the College of Winterhold that have soul gems inside. I would have liked a special set of "Activate" cases in the armory specially made for weapons, but whatever. The racks will suffice.

How many people worked on this thing? If it was more than 3 I would be stunned, it's terrible.

1: Frequent freezes/crashes. I never had a problem in 260+ hours with freezes or crashes (only froze or crashed every 20 or so hours before) now the game freezes every 30 minutes or so. It's especially bad with loading screens. The loading screen animation will just stop completely... even pressing the power button on my 360 won't turn the unit off! I have to press it a good 10 times to get the system to reboot. It also now crashes during combat as well. The screen will go blank or one solid color (as if I had fallen through the ground) and sometimes a message will appear in the top left of the screen that says "was unequipped." It's especially bad when going into or out of the Lakeview house.

2: Extreme amount of glitches in my houses. The steward offers to furnish rooms but nothing ever gets furnished no matter how much time I allow to pass (despite the gold being taken.) Also, if I furnish manually myself and return to the workbench all of the options for furnishing have reappeared, making it almost impossible to figure out which ones I already have and which ones I still need. I have about 300,000 gold, but apparently I can't afford the 1,000 to have the steward furnish the entryway at Lakeview... not that it matters, that glitch is rendered irrelevant by the glitch that prevents her from furnishing anything even when she takes the money. That's never a good sign when a glitch is outdone by a another glitch in a DLC with so little actual content. Also, the kids I adopted were constantly bugging me for things so I gave them new clothes. They said thanks and BAM! suddenly they're just in their underwear, standing there like idiots. It would be funny if the whole experience wasn't such a let-down. Including all those fancy display places was also a perfect idea... I wasted a lot of time setting things up and then upon leaving a re-entering my home they're just scattered everywhere, great.

3: Achievements glitched. The "Architect" achievement didn't unlock despite my first house being built completely. It only unlocked after adding 3 wings to my second house.

Overall, I am extremely disappointed in this DLC. Its only about 5 bucks but it isn't worth 1 dollar in my opinion. It's extraordinarily buggy and overall (even disregarding the bugs) not satisfying (and I'm someone who loves to RP my characters and collect and display "Stuff'.) The Dawnguard DLC similarly was just as deflating. Honestly, you design an entire DLC around this Vampire Lord character and he can barely move through a doorway - good work.

My gamertag is Dr Soctopus if you'd like to confirm how much I've played.
I love Skyrim, it's one of my favorite games of all time but so far the DLC has been awful. I'm definitely waiting for reviews and feedback before I DL the next DLC.... these last two have left a bad taste in my mouth. Skyrim itself was a solid 9.8 / 10, Dawnguard was a 6/10 at best and this DLC barely manages to be a 3. At least there was actually something to do in Dawnguard, this DLC is more like an intricate form of Horse Armor. Despite being supposedly ultra-customizable and tailored to a player's specific prefeernces the amount of options are still very limited, there's not a real "extreme" amount of choice or sense of customization when the choices are either A, B, or C and all are cookie-cutter. The houses are bigger and filled with more crap like barrels and dressers and chests but they're still very, very generic.

First post... Sadly it is to say that now that my house is fully furnished and I leave my cellar it freezes. I even tried previous saves and they are freezing as well now any time I enter my house no matter how little it is built up or if it is fully built. I also had the furnishing glitch where several items I had already built were listed again and that may be what has caused the freezing for me as I may have built something I already had or something. I have no idea, but it's pretty frustrating that the dlc is basically useless now. Along with my wife and 2 children that live in the house...

Hmm, I forgot about those cases. I thought the devs just forgot to add the activators. At least I'm not having too many freezing issues...yet.

Another bug: The manikins in the armory aren't showing armor and are sinking into the tables (only the torsos show).

Overall in Skyrim I have only had the game freeze a handful of times (5-6 at a guess) in the entire 400+ hours I've played.

With Hearthfire, I've frozen a couple dozen times at least, just while trying to get the Falkreath house built.

My observations seem to point to the small house/entryway as the culprit. When I was going in and out trying to get the furnishings done I first thought it was the bard because every time I'd freeze it seemed like he had just started a song. I tested that later and I sat through all of his songs and never froze, but I stayed in the main hall. When I started going out through a side door instead of the front door, the freezing seemed to go away.

At the Falkreath house I have...
Greenhouse
Armory
Alchemy Tower
Remodeled the small house to entry way (never furnished it before remodel)
Bard
Carriage
Steward (whoever was my housecarl from Falkreath)
3 Chickens and a Cow (Does buying the horse replace the one you have for riding or are they just decorative?)

The other problem I noticed with it is the "phantom furnishings". I can open some of the work tables and see barrels, chest(s), dressers, etc and when I build one of them, they all disappear. I have obviously built them before and it is offering to let me build them again for some reason. I couldn't really nail down how to make it stop or start on that one, it seemed fairly random. Sometimes when I'd make something at another bench it would fix them, sometimes it would still show the phantom stuff.

If the freezing thing is repaired so we can go in and out of our houses I think this is worth the $5. With the freezing in place...not so much.

I have had problems from the beginning. As soon as i downloaded the content, I was approached by a courier as expected. The courier did not give me the expected letter from a jarl but instead gave me gold and a letter about the death of a relative. i have visited all three hold's jarls and stewards but none have mentioned the ability to purchase property of any sort and strangely will not allow me to become jarl. I have spent an entire afternoon looking for workarounds but to no avail. Its as if the content isnt loaded at all.

I can not purchase sawed logs. I killed the saw mill guy from a dark brotherhood assassination earlier in the game. The quest marker leads me to the sawmill and nothing happens.

Another bugs:
-My butler disappear mean no supplies.
-Still can't buy a plot of land in Falkreath.
Spoiler
Possible Dark brotherhood quest?
Are you a Thane of Falkreath? Have you done any bar jobs *aka kill Bandits/Giants ect* in Falkreath? If not, try that.

Apart from that, there are areas where there is no terrain, floors, entire chunks of lakes are missing, rocks and plants are floating, and if you go near them you fall through the floor... Restarting the game and clearing game Cache *LB+RB+X* seems to help, but not so much with plants/rocks...

Messy messy messy...

- after adopting 2 kids (1 female, 1 male) they show up at my house, but keep saying they have to gather their things and say goodbye.

- special events such as the 'ransom' event, do not execute properly. My wife was taken, but she was still in my house.

That Gregor glitch seems to be pretty common. Happened to me and a friend, so common the wiki doesn't even have an image of him.

I get no option to purchase land in Falkreath. Built on the other two sites with no problem and even had the housecarls for those two holds walk up to me when I entered the Jarl's house.

I can't seem to purchase the land in Hjaalmarch (Morthal), when I speak to alsfur the option doesn't appear. I am the thane, completed laid to rest and nothing! I've bought the other two lands but it's annoying because I want the achievement for all three houses and land. :(

Alright then...

I have a bug where my wife's (Sylgia) walk cycle is screwy. She walks backwards everywhere, and when standing still she sort of dances in place, if you could call it that.

I married her for the purpose of starting a family in my new Falkreath home. The thing is, at one point she was apparently kidnapped. I went inside to drop off loot and gear up for the daring rescue when I see a quest update message pop up. Apparently Sylgia is a strong woman because I wasn't needed to complete the quest. I waited a few hours and sure enough, there she was back home. Though she must have suffered a blow to the head because she's adopted this new method of walking.

In short, the ransom event didn't properly execute and now my spouse won't interact with the house appliances and her walk cycle is broken. Moving her to another house and back didn't seem to fix the issue.

  • My adopted child sofie keeps running around naked after I gave her a red dress.

  • I can't create a shrine of talos even though I have 4 amulets of talos. The amulets are stuck in my inventory as a quest item and I have no way to start the quest. Been trying to get rid of them since november.

  • mannequin in the main hall of the lakeview manor keeps appearing 3 feet in front of its stand with none of the amour I put on it or doesnt appear at all.

  • my steward keeps telling me I dont have the money to furnish the entry way of lakeview even though I have over $70,000

  • Ive waitied nearly 2 weeks time in game and my steward still hasnt furnished half the stuff in my house after paying her to do it.

Lakeview bug.

I have furnished everything in the backroom in the main hall except an elk bead. I click the carpenters bench again and everything is listed and if I click the button to create the item again it will consume materials even tho the item exist. If I exit the work bench and click it again it will just he the elk head again.

Reguarding the house you get in the Pale from the Jarl of Dawnstar:

Display cases cannot have weapons placed in them to be displayed.

Workbenches inside the house displays furnishings that have already been crafted.

My Steward and Bard are often found standing on the chairs at the table in the Main Hall. I think they can't sit at the table even though I can.

I haven't started on the other houses yet but I will report anything odd I find.
