Hearthfire PCPS3 release date Thread #1

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 4:10 am

PC release should be within 30 or 35 days of 9-4, = 10-4 or 10-9. Ensuing DLC's should be simultaneous for 360 & PC.

Doesn't matter much to me, since I use a PS3. PC Skyrim is still more than I can afford, even once I get my PC going. And even if I could buy it, I find playing games on a keyboard is a vastly inferior experience than using a purpose-built game controller. It's kind of like using a PS3 controller to type replies, like I'm doing right now. It takes 5x longer, and I can't quote, use colored text, or add smilies.

If it's any consolation, the PC version of Skyrim does support the 360 controller for the PC.

That said, I personally prefer mouse + a gameboard [g13 or nostromo, personally g13], especially with SkyUI.

Don't get me wrong I think this is a good DLC for the consoles (PS3 I feel for you guys) but I am happy to wait forever for this on the PC. If I bother to get it whenever, it would be only if it had potential for mods and modding.

I didn't even know you could do that with ANY game. Handy... I have no intention of getting a 360, but a controller might be useful.

The point is that a keyboard is purpose-built for entering text, not gaming. A controller is purpose-built for gaming, not entering text. The tool designed for the job will generally work best.

I have to disagree - keyboards give you a lot of extra hotkey options that simply don't and can't exist with a controller that has so few buttons. It's also much easier (for me at least) to do precise aiming with a mouse than with a thumb stick or d-pad.

No way! All competitive gamers agree KB+mouse. WASD is stock, generated from Quake (WASD+freelook) that set the standard for all 360o view games to come. It's FAR, FAR more efficient to have four fingers+thumb+mouse at the ready. Special key strokes/button presses are WAY easier when using a keyboard and the mouse is a LOT better at aiming then a console controller joystick. I can't imagine playing any FPS at all with a console controller. Actually, I did play Rage on XBox and it was... slightly annoying, kept wishing for a kb+mouse.

I couldn't play with a keyboard and mouse, maybe strategy games like I did before but anything else and you're taking away from the gaming experience.
Not to mention it damages your eyes faster because you're probably sitting close and concentrating really hard, I like not wearing glasses for anything.

Well, you might want to give it a go. Virtually anyone who plays 360o view games most effectively uses this method. Granted, for dedicated consolers, it may take soem getting accustomed to, but beyond that, you'll find it's the only way to play, once you're accustomed to it. On the whole eye thing... that's more myth than anything (ask your eye doctor). Everyone's eyes age and as they age, grow accustomed to different focal point used most often. Virtually every human being, for instance, will need some help reading post 40 years old because near focus muscles become weaker. As well, if you wear glasses, your eyes adjust to different focal points, but, as you age, that becomes more difficult as well, forcing some to remove their glasses to see at differing focal points.

I'm not sure if it is a myth, a lot of young hardcoe gamer's are wearing glasses, the majority of the ones I seen wear them.
I don't know Keyboards and a mouse just don't feel right to me, I like sitting back and relaxing with a controller in my hands and playing my games.
Perhaps people who use a keyboard just feel different about it.

I'm taking a guess that they'll do the same thing as they did with Dawnguard; They'll release it spontaneously. Which is good by me. I can chill on some radiant quests while Xbox 360 beta tests it for us.

Try to buy an alchemy table for Breezehome . Or pay attention to what happens to your Vampiric Drain if Serana is in your party. There are a few bugs with Dawnguard. However, the worst of them with the PC version is how many UDRs were left in the plugin, and the cascade problems they can cause.

I don't really like the annoyance of the dragon attacks so I never start the main quest unless for role playing purpose. As for Serana and the vampire drain I don't really care much for the Vampire Lord form so that is no big deal and even so those bugs are nothing more than slight nuisances.

For me it's a matter of manual dexterity: mine is a bit limited. When I type, I make LOTS of typos (no way I could have ever used a typewriter). So playing on a keyboard... it wouldn't be pretty. I'd have to turn the game all the way down to Apprentice just to keep from getting slaughtered (I normally play on Expert).

Also, I wouldn't be able to use the characters I've spent around 400 hours RPing. Tiberius will be stuck in Riften with a jarl who deeply dislikes him (Maven). My Dunmer won't be able to fill Proudspire Manor with the pitter-patter of little feet. And my Nord alchemist will have struggled to become Thane of Hjaalmarch for nothing.

So has anyone did the math on the XB release to PC release for Dawnguard and figured out when Hearthfire may be release for the PC (assuming the same wait period). I was going to try to figure it out, but I figured by now someone else has already done it.

EDIT: October 7th maybe, but that is a Sunday.
Is this a joke topic/question? "His anyone done the math" for what? Adding a month to the 360 release date? That's some tough calculus, chief.

No official release date has been given for PC as of this posting.

Can you link me to where Bethesda or someone from Bethesda has said only the first two are Xbox exclusive? I keep hearing this on the forum but thus far I can find no such statement by googling and no member I've asked has been able to give me a link to where it was said. I fear it's merely rumored and that when another DLC comes out also Xbox exclusive folks will believe they were lied to. Also, I don't think anyone is counting HF as a full DLC.

-------------------------------------------------------
Unrelated to the above, folks please don't turn this into yet another PS3 DLC thread, we have one of those and you may post about that issue there. This thread is about PC release.

Statement from Microsoft:

it's also mentioned in the several threads of screaming we had back when it was announced there would be exclusives, around the end of August '11.

To be fair, consider that it's "at least 30 days". Much like dawnguard's release for the PC was a bit longer than 30 days after [and the PS3 is still counting], the 30 day count is simply the minimum.

Yeah, it's that stupid exclusivty release deal Bethesda made with Microsoft. It was the last one for Skyrim though. The remaining dlcs will be released simultaneously on all platforms (hopefully the PS 3 problems can be fixed for you guys)

I know, I was referring to "only the first two DLC being exclusives". Summer wanted an official source, I provided one, and Brambleberry provided a Bethblog post confirming it.

That is awesome. Never had the will to do the legwork myself but it's great to see that the 2 DLC thing is true! Thanks for pulling that together! Okay I'm back to lurking
Aye, that makes me happy. I am also happy with Bethesda making this house expansion the 2nd "exclusive" meaning, if there are any meatier DLC's on the way we (pc users) don't have to wait.

I thought the same when switching from PS3 to PC as I enjoy sitting on the couch playing. It was an easy adjustment. the mouse sits next to me on the couch and the keyboard on a small pillow on my lap. works just fine. I still get to stare at my big screen tv as its all hooked in. including my surround sound.

Agreed. Especially for Hearthfire. Skyrim is so huge, I could do without more quest content, but HF will make the overall experience better. At least for me.

10-4-2012 is the earliest possible date. Do they normally wait this long to announce it?
