House Assault...Not much fun?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 10:21 am

Why would a Jarl be worried about four guards if there is a giant civil war going on? If they were so worried that they would attack a house with four guards, then why don't they ever seem to do anything about the numerous bandit camps dotting the land.

And games are supposed to be fun. And while the term fun is subjectable, I think a lot of people don't find being forced to fight the same four different enemies constantly, fun. Its boring and tedious.

Again, the only reason I came up with the Jarl senario was because I was trying to come up with an ingame solution.

Like I said, in many posts, I'd like it if we could build a wall around the compound, build a castle, and have a city pop up as time passed. But the dlc was a small one, which they didn't want to dedicate to many resorces and man-hours to. They cut it off at just building houses with a random attack here and there. It gives the pre-built city houses a reason to sill be used in the game, as the player-built homes have the long term downside of being attacked. The attacks aren't meant to be fun. The reason stratagy games are fun is because half of it is tedious building of recorces and forces. Not everything has to be instant reward with no downside, espeically in an rpg.

I get you don't like it. I don't know how I can say this any more clearer that I agree with you. The attacks aren't fun. But they don't distroy the dlc eather. They're at best a small annoyance, one that simply does it's job in adding value to houses inside cities. Without these attacks, the pre-build homes would have nothing going for them. There would be no reason outside rp perposes to live in the smaller homes inside the cities. Carrages can carry you from your home to any city to sell your things, and there's always fast travel. Just as many quests start outside the cities as in them. The speed, cost, and convenience of the pre-built and player-built homes is negligable in a game as long as Skyrim is.

I get it, it's not fun, I really do. But it's such a small thing that simply gives reason to live inside cities, I don't see the problem holding any water. It works very effectively as a ballance between the two types of homes, and, again, without it there would be no reason to live inside the cities outside of roleplaying perposes or a taste in style.

1. Skyrim is dangerous place. There are wild life, giant, vampire, bandits and dragon. It is your choice to live in middle of nowhere without wall and guard's protection.

2. I live in Vancouver Canada which is one Mordem city in north america, once a while I will read news that Grizzily bear show up in downtown vancouver. A while a ago polices were foreced to kill a Grizzily bear becuase it mauled a lady in her back yard. There are also warming for parents to watch their children because Cougar and Cyotey were spotted. If this can happen in Vancouver, how can you complian it happen in skyrim.

3. Lets face it. If you have a house in middle of no where with life stocks and food, You can bet that predators are going to raid your house for easy food souce. It is just like real life a alaska park ranger (in one of discover channel bear show) says bears will not stay away from human's car or tent because they have learned it is where they can find easy food souce.

how many people in vancover canada?

how many people in skyrim?... exactly.

Its a game where i can drink over 1000000000 liters of fluid that heals my wounds, and eat 290926 peices of raw venison and still sprint with 8 sets of armor in my inventory while running with a sword that's made from dragonbones..

dosen't mean it has to be realistic, means its a game where it has to be FUN

and to add to that... who was the dev who thought we loved boring, tedious, repetitive side quests? because they can fire him too. just sayin.

While you're at it, fire everyone, except the people who designed the world :P

Was in the middle of building my house in Falkreath when an ancient dragon came and turned me into a chew toy.

It doesn't really give any balance between your own homes and homes in the cities considering 1) We couldn't live in the cities in these Holds to begin with (It'd be different if we could build a hold in the Rift or the Reach) and 2) If the Vampire attacks in Dawnguard weren't a "feature" of the DLC

Considering there's attacks within the cities too if you have both DLCs, the only balancing I see is annoying features being added to both.

Out of curiosity though, can you fast travel to your homes outside of the cities (and can you fast travel to your homes within the cities now like a helpful mod added)?

In all honesty the only reason I'm feeling any aggro about it was this happened fairly early in my houses existance. I really hope that this is a once in a blue moon occurence and not regular. At all. I could deal with once in a blue moon, hell, it'd be cool if anything, but if its too regular then I'm probably going to have to put my RP on ice for a little while. Or even (whisper it) lower the difficulty if I see a giant!

Its once in a blue moon for me, except in the pale. The pale, its a little higher of a rate. How do you feel about dragons?

Its not like they're there every time you get home. Please someone explain how skeevers are annoying. I look in their direction, and they get a heart attack and die. Literally takes you 5 seconds to handle them.

Because it is tedious to kill them over and over again. My own Dragonborn is the same, he just has to fart in their general direction and they drop dead. It isn't fun to have to clear out vermin and for those of us with a little OCD, the bodies are not a nice addition.

Hell, Giants stand no chance either, my Vampire Lord just flings them straight up in the air. Gravity does the rest and they die instantaneously from the fall. Was funny the first 2 times. After the tenth...not so much.

Just like the Vampire attacks from Dawnguard these attacks are fresh and fun the first few times but a few hours in and it drives you up the wall because it is so repetitious.

I have a very severe OCD, and it doesn't bother me a bit...

But like ColonelKillaBee said, it's not like it happens every time.

In my personal opinion, I think a lot of people are being very uptight about very minor, minor subjects.

I find them fun constantly as far as vamps, giants, etc. I know my personal preference proves nothing, and I can see how one would find those annoying.....but skeevers? Its such a small thing, and like I said, it doesnt happen every time you come home. Its such a small small small thing to complain about. I just cant comprehend ever complaining about something so insignificant. It causes no in-game problems, and they dont kill anyone. Cant you guys just deal with it and complain about something that is at least potentially problematic?

I am sick of dragons! Every visit to Lakeview Manor Braggen gets one, and that slacker Durnehviir has not improved things, he just flies around and does nothing. Braggen can easily handle everything else that keeps attacking that damned house, but the endless revered dragons he can do without. The wife will be moving to one of the other houses before anyone gets adopted.

The body clean up rate has been first rate so far, which is one good thing.

I'll take two please!

Let's not forget that Dragons typically have pretty good loot inside of them as well. It's like a free wealth delivery system. You just have to work a bit harder to open the box that they arrive in...

Gosh, I don't know. Perhaps I have some sort of multiple personality disorder. Or maybe I'm just not getting enough fiber in my diet. But clearly there's something very wrong with me since I don't happen to agree with you.

This is why I charged you with passive-aggressiveness earlier. If you're going to talk down to other players for not sharing your preferences, fine. But then for you to turn around and claim to be the victim of someone else's rudeness? Seriously?

No one said you had to agree. We were just pointing out that we don't agree with you, and we get greeted by a snide attitude and rudeness.

So, who's the one with the issue?
