How did Skyrim avoid an 18 rating?

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 3:27 am

Now while much of Skyrim is a little kiddish, it`s still quite a bit more `real` than Oblivion which I believe was 16 rated.

Now isn`t Skyrim 15 or 16 rated? How did they manage to include the depiction of someone having their head cut off- at least twice and more when you level up, without the rating being uped to 18?

When Gladiator was being made, they had to show decapitations only with someone in a fullface helmet otherwise the movie would`ve been 18.

I dunno. Nudity is a big no. no or 18 rated, but much graphic blood letting is fine. Humans are strange.

I heard obliviions rating here in the states went to 13 to 18 due to nvde mods I'm not sure however if it was I would find this strange cause oblivion for pc is rated 13 but consoles are rated 18

Some people find looking at the naked human body more offensive than ripping it to pieces. What can I say?

By making the children unkillable and unharmable(being able to get hit doesn't count).

It's not exactly the reason for it, but if they were, this game would get an M rating for sure. Maybe even a recall LOL

I think they actually made it against the rules after the old Fallout games. I'm not 100% on that though. I know that a lot of countries would probably ban the game if you could kill kids though.

It's M (17+) in the US of A, I believe Oblivion was originally T and then changed to M when it was discovered that you could use a mod to be naked. X] Skyrim's definitely more "mature" than Oblivion tho, at least as far as violence goes.

EDIT: Ninja'd!

I thought it was rated M.
Hmm didnt really check. Not that it matters much to me, I'm over 18, and i don't need to worry about it.
But i could understand the concern.

Nothing to do with the mods at all. It was rated M because of the violence, in particular the finishing moves. If the game had you hacking without finishing moves or blood, it would be rated T. There isn't nearly enough sixual themes to be rated M.

Meh, it was a thought.

I guess I'll never understand why some people out there seem to think it's necessary to protect other people from themselves, and/or determine what's "good" or "safe" for everyone else.

Yeah, it's 15+ in the UK, 17+ (M) in NA, 16+ in Europe and apparently 13+ in NZ... I guess some countries just aren't as uptight about these things as others.

15 here in Finland, we use the UK issues of the game (usually we put our own ratings in the games, though).

Ratings vary greatly between continents. American industry puts great restrictions on games that contain "advlt" content but allowing violence reach pretty much all consumers while for example Germany does the complete opposite, sometimes erasing all violence in games and going for such absurdness as coloring blood with different colors (usually green I think). Europeans generally are indifferent towards advlt (mostly nvde) content, and for example here in Finland nudity used to be fairly common in television and film, having no age restrictions on their portrayal as long as it wasn't overly sixual.

So why Skyrim isn't rated 18 in Europe because of its high violence... I suppose that has something to do with EU, everything has. I suppose they are lifting restrictions and letting the people decide for themselves.

Pretty much, from what I've seen. There are T-rated games with more sixual themes than Skyrim.
