How did your follower die?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 7:10 pm

Lydia died so many times in the beginning it's hard to pick any particular event. I accidently lit her head on fire with one of J'zargo's flame scrolls. I immediately used Heal on her--didn't pay off though, as she was so ticked, she hacked me to death with the new Daedric sword I had just given her.

Lydia "use" to get whacked early in the game--that was until I started letting her carry her own health potions. She will use them too, besides, it's hard to use "heal" on her when you're getting your own clock cleaned. I started to give them to her around lvl 18. I'm at lvl 71 now, and haven't lost her since. If I do see her on a knee, then I know she ran out.

I haven't had a single follower, whether it be human, dog, etc. the entire time I've played Skyrim.

I think the escort quests in Morrowind may have turned me off. :P

I was at this Thalmor base doing this quest where Lydia couldn't follow me. I ended up finishing the quest and going home to realise that Lydia wasn't with me. I then went back to the Thalmor base and saw Lydia dead on the snow. I went up to her took off her armour and weapons and lifted her up onto the side of the wall off of the snow. I was angry and saw all the Thalmor guards around that were ignoring her. I turned into a violent rage killing all of them. I then went into the barracks and killed the Thalmor in there too. I went back to Breezehome and put Lydia's gear into the side table draw next to her bed and closed the door. I now kill every Thalmor agent on sight and I promised to avenge Lydia as I was not there to save her (the game wouldn't let me anyway).

It makes a great story for my Nord. I was going to join the Stormcloaks because the empire tried to kill me and now I've got another good reason.

My next companion was Uthgerd the Unbroken who completely svcks. She didn't last one single adventure and ended up dead. I just sold her armour and didn't care. I spent a lot of time with Lydia as she was a great help. Now I'm using Jenassa and she seems to be alive right now which is good.

I also avoid Followers, for the reasons posted here. They get in the way. The problem that I have is getting attached to them, so it makes me über sadface when they perish.

I'd like to have one with Conan, and I've picked out a few candidates. I still haven't decided yet, so I think I'll wait until I actually encounter them in-game to make my decision.

I'm considering:

Jordis the Sword-Maiden
Annnekke Crag-Jumper
Mjoll the Lioness

Unless you're dead-set on a female, I'd recommend Benor in Morthal. He's a tough SOB and is a perfect tank for my mage. Plus, he's got the least annoying idle pvssyr. "Wow... just wow!" Lol

I took Onmund along to defeat Morokei. Dude just balls out runs into combat. Next thing I know his lifeless body is being flung violently across the room and into a wall.

Also, what's up with everyone settling for Lydia as a follower? Convenience? So many other choices, haha.

My follower was Kharjo, the Khajiit that you go retrieve the Moon Amulet for from the Dawnstar Caravan.

I really enjoyed his company too. He'd been with me for almost twenty-two character levels.

Kharjo and I had emerged from a particularly difficult crypt with both of our inventories stuffed to capacity with loot. My Dunmer Mage spied some Bandits making their way towards us (three of them), so I used 'Thunderbolt' dual-cast on the lead one, launching him well into the ocean behind them. The next two started charging at us, when I heard Kharjo let out a fierce battle cry.

I turn around to see him engaging five more Bandits, complete with a second Bandit Chieftain.

[censored] me...

So I unleashed two Dremora Lords into the mix when a duo of Frost Trolls roll into the fray ( I'd swear that the Eight hate me...).

We're losing. I watched as one of my Dremora Lords goes down, and Kharjo takes a knee. I'm running low on Magica as well as Magica Potions due to the crypt before this, and my liberal use of 'Incinerate' currently. So quickly, I slam down my last three Magica-replenishing potions;

And I use Firestorm.

Needless to say, I'm the only one that survived the conflagration.

It's been three character levels since his death. I still miss Kharjo. lol

That is an epic battle..

I personally love Janessa. She's quiet most of the time, and by that I mean she doesn't have annoying dialogue that she repeats every 15 seconds. Not to mention she is one of the only followers that can effectively Dual Wield. She looks quite the badass running around with x2 Scimitars, Krosis' Mask, and her Leather Armor set.

Alot of people have been saying followers don't scale, but I don't know, I've been with her since level 1 and I'm now nearly 20 and she's doing ridiculous damage still, she can take out bandit camps all on her own. Maybe she's one of the few (only) followers that isn't bugged? It would explain why she can Dual Wield at least.

I've lost all the mercenaries i had - and all in a different manner (i.e.pretending to use Storm Call or Unreleting Force shouts in their presence, facing Falmer Shadowmasters or Forsworns Briarheart totally out of their mind...) until i got Cicero...

It was. Kharjo's death was the sort of thing you write in one the books in the game. I would've recorded the whole battle, but I'm on the 360.

But now I have a Dark Brotherhood Initiate (who is a beast with a Bow and a Dagger...), Lucien Lachance (so happy he made a reappearance ;)), 2 Dremora Lords, and a Frost Thrall, all at my beck and call. We just took a trip out to Shimmer Mist cave as a test-run of our little adventuring party, no real problems encountered. We went through that Falmer hive with no permanent loss of man-power, so I'd say it was a success.

Aela has yet to die, thankfully. Helps that she's an archer while I'm a berserk, and that she's covered head to toe in dragonscale armor.

Followers do scale, thought not all scaling is made equal. Only those in the DB, the leaders of the Companions, Housecarls and Erandur can get to level 50, with hirelings and Mjoll going to level 40. Funnily enough, J'zargo is the ONLY follower who has no level limit.

Doh, should have used edit.

Lydia died because Bethesda made chain lightning jump to followers.

So, I went and made Lydia (and all other followers I use) essential. Now she just says, "Watch it," or "I'm on your side."

Would be nice if when you are shooting (spells or bows) long-range, your follower would, too. Only pull out that big 2H weapon when the enemy is on top of you - which happens very infrequently for my character - and then she pulls out her own 2H, too.

I prefer to make even the "essentials" killable instead -with the exception of Cicero  it adds danger and pathos to the combat.

I've only had one follower die, and it wasn't even my fault. I recruited Faendal (an archer), and we traveled into a cave full of trolls. I ordered him to attack, and he... charged them with his iron dagger. Well, needless to say, he got smashed in about 3 seconds. I ran away with a trail of yellow liquid left behind me, and never looked back.

On another note, Jordis is unstoppable. She's taken multiple trips to the moon via the giant's 'International Space Program' and survived. Now with her newly-crafted gear, she one hits everything... I get a bit mad that she kills everyone before me, and I'm too afraid to take it away from her. =P

I have accidentally killed every follower I had.
Most of the time, because they walked straight into every single attack I did.

The only one who did'nt die stupidly was Vorstag. I accidentally hit him because I thought he was the enemy.
When they died, I reloaded, then sent them away.

I killed Lydia a few times, because she was so stupid, she pissed me off.

Apart from Vorstag, they all caused their own, stupid, deaths.

I don't have followers, they're a waste of time.

They died either because they were getting old, because of disease, rotten food or by explloring a dungeon by themselves. But I can′ t say for sure since I usually don′t talk to them.

the only companion I dont have a problem with is janessa, she seems to be the only one who understands that when I sneak attack someone, that means I'm trying to be quiet, and doesnt charge into battle. that makes me so angry sometimes.

I loved Janessa. But if you take a moment to listen to her before you hire her, she says something along the lines of being sneaky and killing if you need it... which means that she seems to view herself as sort of a freelance assassin. So that would explain why she works so well with characters who do a lot of Sneak Attacks. ;)

She scales to Lv. 40, all of the follower that you pay( sell swords ) Lv. to 40, housecarls Lv. to 50. I think the highest Lv. a follower can reach is 50( but that's only the housecarls ) J'zargo is the only follower that can reach Lv.81 with you. But Lv. 40 with the right equipment is still a force to recon with.

Here's a link to UESPWiki on followers http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Followers it has some good info on followers

LOL... perfect ending to that buttwad. I hired Sven so he'd die on a journey like that. But he survived for at least 10 levels. Then he finally bit it in a charus nest (but only after one of my fireballs accidentally hit him while he was taking a knee). He was alright because he never spoke unless spoken to and he wasn't annoying, but I wasn't sad when he bit it. I looked at his corpse and thought, "it's about time". I was going to drag his corpse and toss it into a crevasse or something, but I only pulled it about 3 feet before I decided... meh... it wasn't worth it. Fool was my pack mule so I lost a lot of loot because of his death. In case you didn't notice, I'm roleplaying a psychotic/sociopathic evil mage. Picked up Sven at Riverwood after I crushed Faendal's heart by giving Camilla Sven's calumnious letter... and I didn't want Sven to end up benefitting either so I took him along fully expecting him to die in the first dungeon thus leaving him dead, Camilla a perpetually lonely spinster, and Faendal a lonely loser whose heart was crushed by a forged letter in his name. Muhuhahahaha.

Brave brave Marcurio bit it last night. We were out Mammoth hunting and he just didn't have the skill required for that sort of expedition. He got stomped so far into the ground all I found was a boot heel sticking out. I kicked some dirt on it and said a couple of words. I was getting annoyed with the dude anyway

Oh, and Sven died in the first dungeon I took him to. I found him curled up in a dark corner after I had annihilated everything. Including Sven, apparently. Didn't think too much of it, but I did bring his clothes back to his mum. Come to think of it, I left an innocent man dead butt nekked in a dark cave....oh, well.
