How did your follower die?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 9:47 pm

Lydia and me were exploring this falmer infested cavern when I got mobbed by chaurus and couldn't heal her. I didn't see her die but when I found her she was a pin cushion of arrows.... Damn falmer...

I was fighting a dragon priest and Farkas was way too brave and tried to take him on while i was healing myself... he wouldnt listen... he got zapped across the room.

Right now I have an orc muscle head from one of the strongholds... wonder how long he'll last....

Anyone have any good stories of their followers dying in some fantastic fashion?

Nothing fantastic here, it's usually me sticking an arrow in their head. Lucky me there's plenty of them new heads to be shot.

Lydia died in Nchuand Zel while we were trying to find members of a lost expedition.
The plan was to weaken a Falmer and his spider companion by having them step onto a fire rune. It had worked quite well in previous battles, but Lydia, tired of waiting I suppose, charged before I could finish preparations. In doing so, she alerted the Falmer and his spider, who also charged. I panicked and cast the rune, overlooking the runes someone else had already placed nearby as I found out later. Be that as it may, there was a huge explosion, and it caused all three of them to stagger/tumble down a stair case. The Falmer landed quite awkwardly and did the splits, the spider landed on its back, and poor Lydia screamed in pain one last time before collapsing. It was an awkward moment...

We got overwhelmed at the end of Forelhost. I used a blizzard scroll in desperation and ended up killing Lydia somehow in the process but I didn't even survive that encounter myself I think.

Mine don't die, I pick everything off with arrows before they do.
I don't accidentally hit them, I don't scorch them with magic.
Seems 90% of follower death is player related.

First time it happened to me I was wandering the wilds with Lydia. I purposefully scooted around a Giant's camp and headed off, then realised Lydia wasn't behind me. I turned to see an angry Mammoth in the distance, and when I closed in I realised Lydia was going head-to-head with it! Wasn't sure what to do. Tried speaking to Lydia to get her to stop, but she was having none of it. After being knocked down several times, Lydia finally paid the price, and the blow from the Mammoth's tusks was too much for her.

That's the only time my follower has died when it wasn't by my hand though. A few times I've Shouted FUS RO DAH just as my weak follower walks infront of me, and another time I was sure I had a clear shot past Eola to stick an arrow into a Draugr Deathlord's eyeball, but Eola went down like a sack of spuds and I later found my arrow in her shoulder.

I'm a lightweight though...I reload a saved game if my follower dies.

It was me and Uthgerd the Unbroken, I had just smithed out a very powerful set of Daedric Armor for her as well as a sword. We were on out way to a dwemer ruin held by some stormcloaks, and I had the brilliant idea to climb the mountain it was set into from behind and pick off as many as I could stealthily before descending into melee range. there was easily a bakers dozen there all standing around without a care in the world. mind you we were so far up that even with my bow zoomed in the enemies were no bigger than ants. Fire the first shot of and uthgerd got the brilliant idea to charge...off a cliff....and fell at least 200 feet. never found the body. wasnt even interested in looking seeing as how I half expected her to do something stupid anyway and told her to stay back. Stupid.

Those are some funny stories lol. Some really good ones.

It seems Lydia is the primary victim for sure..

Mine don't die, I pick everything off with arrows before they do.
I don't accidentally hit them, I don't scorch them with magic.

Ya I never had a follower die on adept, but I have been playing on Master, and earlier on when I'm not as powerful it happens occassionally.

I recently lead a follower to die at Boethia's shrine.... Not my orc friend, but some sorcerer for hire in Riften, didn't like the look of em so he was deemed sacrificiable.

Got smashed in the head by a devastating blow from some OP idiot...ME!

Why they step in front of my attacks is beyond me.
I have also shot a few as they cowered before Draugur. For some reason (even if I aim high) the arrows seem to hit them.

I will reload a save if they die by my hand (accident). However, if they die from a real threat they stay dead.

Im in the same boat as most here , The Dumb woman has a habit of stepping right into your point of site while your battling with some enemy and wham Lydia takes a Two hander great sword blow too the head and down she goes.

She may not be smart at times but she sure does make for a great mule to carry all your crap .

They never die because I never use them. I've never liked followers, they always get in your way, they don't level scale(IIRC) and they're usually blank slate pawns for your chess game.

I killed Lydia to strengthen the Ebony blade :drag:
As of right now Janessa is the only safe one because she doesn't question my orders, I will kill as many as it takes to get the blade to it's full potential

On my main character, Lydia was killed by some SUPERmages when she ran ahead of him. A very touching sacrifice that Rajir has never forgotten. Uthgerd similarly died attacking a steam-spewing Dwarven Centurion while Rajir dealt with an icicle-flinging Falmer.

I've had two followers die on me... both in encounters with charus'. One because I neglected to help him in time and the other because I accidentally nailed him with a fireball while he was on his knees gaining his strength after a charus attack.

My follower was Kharjo, the Khajiit that you go retrieve the Moon Amulet for from the Dawnstar Caravan.

I really enjoyed his company too. He'd been with me for almost twenty-two character levels.

Kharjo and I had emerged from a particularly difficult crypt with both of our inventories stuffed to capacity with loot. My Dunmer Mage spied some Bandits making their way towards us (three of them), so I used 'Thunderbolt' dual-cast on the lead one, launching him well into the ocean behind them. The next two started charging at us, when I heard Kharjo let out a fierce battle cry.

I turn around to see him engaging five more Bandits, complete with a second Bandit Chieftain.

[censored] me...

So I unleashed two Dremora Lords into the mix when a duo of Frost Trolls roll into the fray ( I'd swear that the Eight hate me...).

We're losing. I watched as one of my Dremora Lords goes down, and Kharjo takes a knee. I'm running low on Magica as well as Magica Potions due to the crypt before this, and my liberal use of 'Incinerate' currently. So quickly, I slam down my last three Magica-replenishing potions;

And I use Firestorm.

Needless to say, I'm the only one that survived the conflagration.

It's been three character levels since his death. I still miss Kharjo. lol

I've never had a follower die from the enemy(s) we were fighting. They always do that 'take a knee' stance when they've had enough. Friendly fire from your's truly is the only way that they die.

That being said Meeko is actually the only one to die. He dove right between me and a bandit I was sword fighting.

99% of my followers die by getting in the way of my attacks. Whether I play a sneak archer (arrow to the back), a mage (svcking up a lightning bolt), or a sword and board (running under my swinging blade), it doesn't matter. I have a CHARGE! attitude and it just doesn't work that well with followers.

Funny thing is that I can keep a dog alive alot longer than a humanoid companion.
