How to marry any character - Including Lydia

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 12:48 am

I'm going to assume that this only works on characters who have dialogue files which include marriage options, Hence why Khajiit and unique voiced NPC's don't work?

I doubt that Bosmer would work either.

Is there a way to "re-marry" Aela oder reset the married status after she died? I have resurrected her but she acts as only a normal follower if I ask her to join me. I have only a very old "manual" savegame :-(

She cooks me meals, does her shop thing and behaves just like every other wife I tried.

That is one awesome signature quote! Lot of truth in that sir :celebration:

We're looking into it.

Sweet!

I suppose that's also a confirmation that Lydia was in fact supposed to be a potential wife?

(as opposed to left out on purpose at the last minute)

Would anyone be interested in expanding marriage or a companion's role in upcoming DLC? Maybe that's too difficult to add any real value to the game, or just too far off the game's directive?

Bet you anything this is already being worked on and will be most worked on mod #3 (after nudity and becoming a dragon xD)

Is it "just Lydia", or can you marry any of your other housecarls on the console versions? I only have Lydia thus far and have no marriage options on the 360. About to earn the housecarl of Solitude, and wonder if the bug applies to all housecarls, or just Lydia?

On PC you can marry other carls just fine it seems.

There is indeed but it involves resetting a lot of variables and two quests and doing so is somewhat complicated without knowing the numbers or references for these :(

This is the theory yes. This is also why essential NPCs don't respond either. I believe it's just based on the voice actor/actress that did it, if the character in question is voiced by the same as another marriageable NPC the option is available. There is a list of the NPCs that cannot be married under "FACT" in the console but I have no idea how to access said list.

To marry people, don't you at least have to do a 'favor' or quest for them?
For the ones that seem unmarriable, maybe you haven't done a quest for them or they have no quest. :/

So the command is un-usable on main NPCs? Fudge...I was going to attempt to marry Karliah once I was done with the Thieves guild (in order to not crash/ruin anything I might have needed to reach the end)...

Had to use this trick to get Erik to have the marriage dialogue options. Worked like a charm :) Amusingly, he not only is my fighting companion, but he also apparently finds the time to cook and sell stuff on the side...

This isn't working for me.

I have Lydia as a companion / housecarl and it only seems to work on her. I've told her it's time we part ways and even outright killed her, but I still can't get Addfac 19809 1 to work on anyone else (not even other "marriageable" NPC's like Aela). Yes I'm wearing the amulet, and also talked to Maramel.

Interesting enough, one of the barmaids, Narri, comes back as a 1 when entering GetInFaction (other barmaids are 0).

I've tried using it on Both high elves in the College of Winterhold, and after that didn't work every npc I walked into on the streets, and it has never worked.

I open the console, I click on the person, i type in addfac 19809 1 and I hit enter.

Now we need a way to force conversation windows with people who don't normally have them. I can't possibly be the only one who wants to marry Hroki from Markarth.

Guys, make sure you really have the NPC selected. The best way is to save, click, record their ID, and type kill into the console. If they die, you have the right ID. Just record the ID, reload, and click around until you get that ID.

After ensuring she had the right faction information by adding it as described above, I still wasn't getting the option with the amulet equipped, and I noticed she didn't seem too friendly in terms of her random comments. To check, I clicked to target her in the command console, and ran the line

getrelationshiprank player

This reported it back as "aquantance"

setrelationshiprank player 4 (might only need to be 2 or 3, better to chose the minimum needed to prevent driving Radiant Story nuts.

Anyways. I beleive the housecarls are all supposed to be set to "ally" as soon as you get them. This is why all of them except Lydia appear to be properly marriable right from the get go for everyone. I could have sworn she was when the Jarl first assigned her to me but then stopped being - also when I noticed she was making unfriendly sounding random comments. I'm not sure if its possible, but her relationship rank may have been dropped if she observed you stealing from her Jarl. It could have to do with the relationship settings for her and/or her morality ranking.

And that seemed to work for me. Mood, helpfulness, agression, confidence, morality and relationship rank are actor values which when combined with factions memberships instruct Radiant Story and the ai scpricts how to gvern the behavior of NPCs. They are also things that can be checked, also along with faction information, when displaying or hiding dialog options.

Relationship rank describes the overall nature of the association NPCs have with the player as well as with each other. It looks to be a table which stores pairs of reference IDs for any NPCs and uses an integer value to define their relationship. HAven't tried negative values to see how that works though. ones It is probably one of the most powerful actor values in terms of governing quest availability and other direct reactions to the player as well as less indirect interactions - like hiring thugs to beat you up for stealing from their confidant. So if adding the marriable facition does not open up the dialog option for you try upping the relationship rank try setrelationship 2 then 3, then 4 just to make sure you don't put it higher than you need to. As it is so powerful in determining offering of quests as well as general hostility you can really mess stuff up if you're not careful.

For example, I used it to get Jarl Ulthric to offer to sell me the house in Windhelm without actually doing any quests for him or the stormcloaks at all - or even doing any quests in the city at that point. It seemed to produce one or two very strange and illogical dialog during a conversation that happens later in the main plot: I also noticed that shortly after having played around with it on a couple random NPCs that many of the Radiant Story quests/encounters would simply never happen and that those which did happen were not repeating.

I suggest creating an entirely seperate save if you want to play around with some of these things but it's amusing to use a few quick console commands to cause a whole bar to start beating each other sensless - less hilarious to forget that assassination target you just killed was someone you set to be the Jarl's confidant and family member by using these options. Really cool how much we might be able to do with it though in combination with mod tools

Yeah, that method let me marry Hroki on one of my characters. She apparently opens a shop, but won't actually join me as a follower. Interestingly, it seems the script that brings people to the wedding does check relationships: both of her parents showed up, although her siblings didn't.

To make them a follower, you need to add them to that list as well:

addtofaction 0005C84D 0

Other quick and easy ways to edit the people of Skyrim include new actor values that Radiant Story and the ai scripts use to interpret their , helpfulness (to the player AND to npcs based on relationships), how violent they are, how brave they are, and their view of crime.

If you plan on making them a follower then if you want them to be helpful I strongly suggest changing the following values:

setav Assistance 2
setav Confidence 3
setav Morality 4

This will make them assist allies (you), charge in to fight almost anything that threatens either of you, and not steal or murder people which - for followers, goes on your bounty. You might want to play around with the confidence and morality though to see exactly what they might do - perhaps you do want a follower who steals when they have the chance (and whose inventory you can access). Also confidence - might want to adjust it up to 4 if you want your follower to be perfectly willing to go toe to toe with ancient dragons; they would of course die. "Aggression" is the other one but i'm not entirely sure how wide ranging that is (1-4 but not sure how berzerk 4 is and how docile 1 is ).

A friend of my claims that Jarl Ulric Stormcloak can't be married by females because he's a homosixual. Yeah, that's right.. after completing all of his quests and wearing an amulet of mara, Ulric Stormcloak probed into the option of marrying a male PC.
