How to marry any character - Including Lydia

I'm really surprised Bethesda didn't make sure there was at least one male and female of every race available for marriage.

For those of you who can't wait for the CK to come out in order to marry a khajiit or a bosmer, there's a little workaround : instead of enabling a khajiit/bosmer NPC to be married, you could change the race of a NPC you can marry to khajiit/bosmer.

Just select the NPC you want to marry and type : "setrace Khajiit" or "setrace Bosmer". The NPC's race will change to the specified one, although they'll retain their voice, dialogue, scripting, etc. - it's just a cosmetic change.

If you're getting awkward results (usually when switching between beast races and non-beast races), try switching to argonian first, then back to the race you want.

I also tried doing the reverse - switching a khajiit to nord to see if their dialogue options for a potential wedding would come up, but to no avail. I'm afraid the voice packages for those races/actors are indeed missing, and that even with the CK, their wedding-related dialogues will be "voice-less". Here's hoping Bethesda still included those voice packages at least for common khajiit/bosmer NPCs, even though they're currently unused in game.

Big question is... Can you marry a Mudcrab?
This. I've heard Mudcrabs are the best merchants..........

After ensuring she had the right faction information by adding it as described above, I still wasn't getting the option with the amulet equipped, and I noticed she didn't seem too friendly in terms of her random comments. To check, I clicked to target her in the command console, and ran the line

getrelationshiprank player

This reported it back as "aquantance"

setrelationshiprank player 4 (might only need to be 2 or 3, better to chose the minimum needed to prevent driving Radiant Story nuts.

Anyways. I beleive the housecarls are all supposed to be set to "ally" as soon as you get them. This is why all of them except Lydia appear to be properly marriable right from the get go for everyone. I could have sworn she was when the Jarl first assigned her to me but then stopped being - also when I noticed she was making unfriendly sounding random comments. I'm not sure if its possible, but her relationship rank may have been dropped if she observed you stealing from her Jarl. It could have to do with the relationship settings for her and/or her morality ranking.

And that seemed to work for me.

Lydia was at relationship rank "Ally" with me and still presenting the marriage bug. This looks like a fundamental bug that manifests differently depending on the many variables of the AI. I doubt there is going to be a one-size-fits-all solution on our end.

I will note that despite being ranked at Ally, I got almost no commentary from her and her inventory commentary sounded negative.

Then try 2, 3, 4, 5 as well?

Is she saying something like, "I am sworn to carry your burdens?" or something along those lines? Cause I get that too.

Maybe it's her only speech option?

this kind of works, I tried it on a nord girl, but now when i make a save and exit to the desktop, then load the game again and load the save, she comes up with a khajiit body and a nord head.. kind of creepy... :(

Seems it does this for all npc's i alter to be a different race... does anyone know of any head-change commands that may change their heads?

To make them a follower, you need to add them to that list as well:

addtofaction 0005C84D 0

Other quick and easy ways to edit the people of Skyrim include new actor values that Radiant Story and the ai scripts use to interpret their , helpfulness (to the player AND to npcs based on relationships), how violent they are, how brave they are, and their view of crime.

If you plan on making them a follower then if you want them to be helpful I strongly suggest changing the following values:

setav Assistance 2
setav Confidence 3
setav Morality 4

This will make them assist allies (you), charge in to fight almost anything that threatens either of you, and not steal or murder people which - for followers, goes on your bounty. You might want to play around with the confidence and morality though to see exactly what they might do - perhaps you do want a follower who steals when they have the chance (and whose inventory you can access). Also confidence - might want to adjust it up to 4 if you want your follower to be perfectly willing to go toe to toe with ancient dragons; they would of course die. "Aggression" is the other one but i'm not entirely sure how wide ranging that is (1-4 but not sure how berzerk 4 is and how docile 1 is ).

This doesn't work at all for me. No new NPCs will follow me after I put this in.

I tried to get Lod in a relationship with me, and it didn't work for him, either. Lod is the Blacksmith from Falkreath, his VA is a bit unique sounding, at least to my ears. My guess is that if certain NPC's don't have the "Interested" and "Relationship" dialogue voice sets, you won't be able to marry them. Like the Khajiits.

Have cycled through towns many game days gone by completed quests but she is gone. Any help? Worst part is like a moron I didn't save my game BEFORE marrying her so if I cant find her and get her to my house I cant go back and remarry someone else. This life of abstinence is KILLING ME...please help!!

So despite all these workarounds, I still can't marry Delvin because he has a unique voice actor?

They also have to like you - I said "as well" because I was following up on another post in which they had already married someone and wanted to also have them be a follower. That adds them to the potential follower faction - it doesn't make them automatically offer to follow you. You know how most followers you either have to pay, box, or help them before they'll follow you right? Well if you use that on an NPC who doesn't have some quest or way to gain their favor, you have to use the code to up their relationship rank with you.

Also, this won't work on all NPCs but it will on most. The more generic they are (but not randomly generated ones) the more likely it is that they won't have a package that will conflict. Still, I got the Jarl of solitude to follow me around for a bit so it can work on some important ones.

Went through it all with lydia and it worked wonderfully, she had wedding dialogue and everything.

I heard it will work on characters who have the potential to be followers if they have the same voice actor as one who is marryable. For example Lydia (marryable) or a potential female follower that has the same voice actor as Lydia, because the spouse actions/speech files are already there, all u have to do is use the code to add them to the marryable faction. ;)

I have found this to be true. I married Aicantar on one character, after setting his relationship rank and then adding him to marriage faction, which worked perfectly. He is not even normally a follower, either, but has the same voice actor as a character who is a marriageable follower (he'll follow you if you add him to that faction, as well).

Spoiler

(though I did wait until after I'd done the part of the Thieves Guild quest that involves a possible battle against him, just to be safe)

We're looking into it.
Awesome! Ever since she started skewering bandits on her two-handed sword, I just have to marry her! ;)

Just curious: will there be an update to this in this topic? Or is it better to check the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1300562-skyrim-what-were-working-on/ every once and a while?
