How do you create YOUR character?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 6:47 pm

I'm interested in how everybody goes about creating their characters. Do you... 1. Have a favorite character/style since you've played The Elder Scrolls? 2. Randomly generate your character and what they'll do? 3. (Like me,) Throw every object off of your coffee table and write out a huge strategy as to how your character will be? 4. Just pick a character that seems good to you and place skill points when needed? 5. Pick the best looking race, customize them to be better looking than that, and go about Skyrim comparing yourself to how much better looking you are than the other NPC's? 6. Do you have goals in mind when playing or do you just "play it by ear"? Tell me your experiences with character creation. I'm actually in need of help myself. I can't make up my mind! (Don't let that last comment get in the way with my topic. I just want to hear how you guys create your characters).

Every detail must be perfect and fit my preset vision of who that character is

I get way too complicated. I try and make the perfect character, and I'm too selfish to just pick Combat, Magic, or Stealth. I prefer mages, but I also like playing on the higher difficulties (Master) however, mages were not made for the master difficulty, and I'm not really sure what is. If I play on adept or lower, I feel like everything is too easy. If I play on expert, I usually get mad after being ran into a corner and eaten by a bear with no physical defense to stop it. Of course when I try to summon something, the (enter enemy here) just runs past it and sticks (enter weapon here) in my (enter body location here). xD

On the real though, I'm the same way. I put wayy too much into my characters and end up rerolling countless times usually before even level 5 because I've changed my mind about something or didn't like the turnout whatever it may be. And the process is so long I don't even want to type it lol.

But as for your question about master... thief characters/assassins. I guarantee you my archer could switch to master seamlessly and still be able to nearly one shot everything. Actually I think I'm gonna try that...

Well i like seeing mage play-styles alot - i've never been a high level one myself (Content with my stealth-assassin at the moment) but I saw this one guy playing on master difficulty; he had Daedric armor with level 100 alteration and master alteration an destruction spells, lets just say it would take a normal bandit about 30 hits to even take out half his health. He would literally allow them to hit him without even trying to dodge any attacks and when his magicka got just about enough he charged a shock spell and sent them flying, bashed onto a rock.

For me, it's a mix of 1 and 3. 99% of the time I will play archers in RPGs, so that is what I play in Skyrim. However, I am always trying to come up with the most fun archer character possible, and that includes a lot of planning, both story-wise and the actual build. I'm waiting for DLC to hopefully add some more fun skills that I can use for my archer.

Yeah mages are really good, but at lower levels they are very challenging to play. If you have the patience of starting over a bunch of times, they are well worth it.

That's the other thing! I enjoy playing a Khajiit assassin but when it comes to getting all the stuff done, I wouldn't even mind bending into stealth magic but the minute I think to myself, "What the heck? A cat fighting dragons? I get immediately discouraged. If you have a point of view that I apparently do not on that subject, please share with me!

I usually go with Dunmer or Khajiit, 1-handed swords, some stealth, some destruction magic. So kind of a jack of all trades.

With my current character, when in the designing faze I was thinking Star Wars (yeah im a nerd) so I decided to make a Sith-like character, you know, really pale skin, good with destruction and whatnot, i even have an armor that enchanted that i feel is sithy. Blades Armor with Ebony Gauntlets and Ebony Boots wearing the Nahkriin Mask (its what i imagine sith looking like before they were able to go into space and stuff like that lol) and because i like this combat style im able to RP my character as different roles depending on what im into at that moment.

Hey that's cool man. It sounds like you did a good job on your character. I never really thought to make a sithy person because of the no lightsabers but to use destruction like the dark side of the force? I would have never thought of that and I'm a big Star Wars fan myself. :P Nicely done.

I generally stick to nord and orc type races as I'm actually in to Norse mythology and those types of races fit pretty well. Also magic users and elves are usually uptight and holier than thou types or at least strike me as such so I stay away from them. For the shill set I go for more of a jack of all trades type with steath, combat, lockpicking, speech, heavy or light armor, marksmanship, alchemy, crafting, maybe some magic to. i like to be able to handle anything that comes my way as a Star Wars geek I look at it as the Boba Fett way.

I just see what looks good for the character when making the face and let fate do everything else if I didn't come up with anything but a name and a face.

Yeah that's pretty good. I do like the theory of hunter/warrior/bounty hunter type but I can't break the fact that I need to heal myself. It's like a bad ex-gf I can't get rid of.

Yeah man I like your philosophy. My first character I got SO far in but I made him butt ugly. I started over on looks alone. As far as playing and just putting the points when needed, that's also a really good idea. I think I'm going to give that a try. As we speak I'm sitting blank at the customization screen.

P.S. I like your signature. xD

Not really the type I've played in previous TES games (always preferred Nords), but my half blind Nord warrior/murderer seems to be the only way I can really get into Skyrim. He's my second character of this type, but unlike the first one, he's not the Dragonborne, but is not opposed to using a certain amount of magic, just not extensively...after all, he is still primarily a warrior with a big [censored] axe to grind.

I had the original idea in my head before the game even came out. I knew I wanted to play a warrior and a murderer (not necessarily for the DB) also wanted to play a half blind guy the minute I saw the eye choices. Considering the original character was a former warrior, I figured he would be scarred up as well, this carried over to a certain extent with my newest Nord murderer. He's a close copy, but not an exact replica.

Imperial sword and board is usually my favorite class i also usually have some illusion spell. But with the new spell system i dislike using the hot keys to switch my shield and spells.

I don't think of Khajiits as "cats". That's like saying for a human: "oh it's just an evolved gorilla fighting a dragon. Just throw a banana at the stupid thing" Khajiits are part of lore, so you have to think of them that way. I don't really see your side...
