IGN Says Bethesda's "Golden Reputation Is Tarnished"

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 5:26 pm

I don't have any delusions of Bethesda or any company responding to their customers, I just don't like someone telling someone else that complaining about something will do nothing. Because doing nothing is guaranteed to do nothing.

I said, quote, "Complaining to a bunch of people that don't pull strings at the game developers' company, in hopes that a trickle down will help, is not really a great master plan"

I didn't say 'shut up'. I didn't say "pipe down" or 'quit whining'. I didn't say 'complaining does nothing'. I said that the way this was done, it was not a great master plan. That's not telling people to do nothing. It is forwarding the opinion that it will not have great effect. You seem to agree with that opinion so I'm confused as to your replies

I keep reading how this game is unplayable on the PS3, but I have had nothing but a great experience so far on my PS3 and the same goes for all my friends who play on the PS3. I'm sure some people have had issues, but is it really that problematic on the PS3? It's hard for me to believe.

I do have a small amount of lag when I fast travel or enter into a city, but it goes away quickly and doesn't really bother me. Is that the problem everyone is referring to?

Which is more probable: a bunch of 15 year old snot-nosed d o u c h e kids are complaining about a minimal amount of lag while refusing to clean up their hard drives a bit Or the game is simply "unplayable on the PS3"? I'd have to go with the former.

Even if I’m wrong, you can’t deny the high volume of self entitled little d o u c h e bag kids on these forums. Can you?

So you went into Skyrim with Bethesda having a Golden Reputation in your estimates?

Do you have a short memory? If Bethesda has a GR, but bugs mare that, and Bethesda releases often have bugs at launch which are steadily fixed by Bethesda and the modding community... I guess Bethesda is constantly damaging its own GR but then builds it back up till the next release when the same happens on and on forever!

i dont want to re-type my problem but just give it a quick read

Then what the hell are on the forum for? Just to hop on every thread and try to ruin it for people who do like it? Whats wrong with you?

Can't say I understand this way of thinking. How does someone disliking a game I like "ruin" it for me?

OTOH, I'm glad my version only has the PC problems, which can be fixed, rather than the PS3 ones.

Anyone notice that there isn't any source of critical reviews of video games? Its so hard to get balanced reviews of video games that I'm starting to purchase on gut instincts, which usually causes me to buy games that I wouldn't have bothered with had there been a decent source of accurate information.

DECEMBER 5: That The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a major work in the pantheon of games classics is unarguable. This huge, rich texture and deeply involving world wows millions of gamers. Some PS3 owners are unhappy though, as lag issues plague the game for those with large save files. Bethesda attempts to fix the problem with patches, but its golden reputation is tarnished by an ugly episode.

Millions of gamers are happy, a few have lag issues - therefore the games reputation is tarnished. Wut? I'm not even taking a stance on this issue, I'm just confused as to how they came to such a conclusion considering the second sentence. It's like they need to appear critical, but don't want to piss of Bethesda and thus loose out on reviewing future releases.

IGN is just saying that so Bethesda can send them money.

EDIT: If Bethesda gives them money they'll say Bethesda is the best developers of all time.

Bethesdas name was tarnished when they put it on that load of crap game Brink. what a horrible horrible game.

I have the ps3 version of skyrim and I keep seeing a lot of complaints about lag. I have not noticed this issue but corpses do often sink into the ground right after dying.

Um, IGN is a sham organization. They accept money for good reviews and are essentially a joke.

That being said, Bethesda's always had bugs and such. This is nothing new.

IGN can say what they like they still talk crap all the time. Unless you send the oodles of cash you wont get a good review. And to be frank Bethesda didnt have a golden reputation in the first place. They have a rep for making damn fun games that are highly buggy.

First two TES games were basically unplayable unpatched. Its gotten better since but TES games are always very huge and complex and buggy. No surprise Skyrim has a few bugs

No game is perfect, they have a golden rep IMO and I don't think it was tarnished.

No, a lot of people have lag issues. Its just that Bethesda doesn't want to admit that a lot of people are having issues. The game is unplayable on the ps3 after a certain amount of playtime. Bethesda has improved performance, but the lag is still their.

You're probably right, I was just complaining about the lack of integrity and reliability of most game journalism today.

Interesting that IGN is claiming Bethesda has a 'tarnished reputation'. IGN, the same website known for horrific journalisn standards and the meaning behind the catchphrase "You cant spell ignorance without IGN", has no right to criticise others.

All Bethesda games are buggy, its a natural part of making such a ridiculously huge game. When you have so much to test, its natural some problems will make it through. The PS3 issue will get fixed, all PS3 users need is patience.

Hah! What a joke. Fallout 3's very similar issues never got patched. These issues have never been directly addressed. These issues had a development cycle to be patched. This patience you speak of... you are referring to silent, potentially indefinite wait for a purchased product to finally get fixed so that it functions well even a month after release with no resolution? Consumers... I tell you, they can be so naive. These corporate companies want nothing but money... they care for nothing but money. If people don't take some form of action, nothing will result. Consumers need to not be so submissive and need to not be so uninformed, misunderstanding, and conceding of basic consumer rights. This bullcrap should not occur with a consumer product and all up until release, all anyone ever said when asked for some evidence of the PS3 version's quality, we were told to be "patient". Now, a month after release with a $60-$150 product in our hands that is malfunctioning for evidently many people, we get told to have more "patience"? When does the patience end and the logical sense pop in?

It is not IGN making ignorant statements with obviously no knowledge of what the discussion is and/or a blatant ignoring of the actual topic at hand just to post uselessness, apologetic defenses, and demands of so-called "patience" in a context within which what they're demanding is stupid and irrational. This is a corporation we're dealing with, not a charity that releases something for free out of the goodness of their heart... a rich, supposedly AAA corporation that shouldn't let these things slip by, at that.

Bethesda had a golden reputation? When?

Bethesda's reputation was always "a company that releases revolutionary, ground-breaking sandbox RPGs that are huge in scale and full of bugs."

Skyrim didn't tarnish anything. It lived up to, precisely, the general expectations.

This. :D Nailed it. First time.

I never thought Bethesda was that highly regarded by serious gamers.

It's the PC modding community that makes their games amazing.
