What is generating the unstoppable force?

I do. Because it amuses me.

This sounds almost like the ultimate shield vs the ultimate spear made for combat. The shield is so powerful it deflects all known attacks rendering the user invulnerable. As for the spear it is so feared in combat that it makes the wielder invincible in combat. However when the two meet on the same battlefield both surpass one another while yielding to one another. It's a weird sort of equilibrium such as fire and ice or earth and air with each one being strong but against its polar opposite neither wins nor loses.

As for the test I would say nothing happens as each one cancels the other out possibly in a spectacular fashion.

I am the immovable object. The unstoppable force has been stopped. I now give you permission to continue with your lives.

Chuck Norris jokes won't get old until he dies, because CHUCK NORRIS WILL ROUND HOUSE KICK ALL THE NON-BELIEVERS! Just joking, they are getting old, but that is the reason I think people still find them funny. They are so old that the sheer absurdness of them still being commonly used makes them funny.

Could easily be wrong, since it's been quite some time since my physics, but in order to change direction while maintaining speed, you would need an increase in energy (as a change in direction is acceleration), so the unstoppable force would slow down if it were to bounce off even with a perfect conservation of energy.

*mumbles about remembering something along the lines of instantaneously reversing an object's vector requiring infinite energy*

We're already dealing with infinites. I mean an unstoppable force sure sounds like it's got infinite energy behind it. :shifty:

So the unmovable object would have to have infinite mass behind it.

As you may know this is the origin of the word used in Chinese and Japanese for self-contradiction or paradox, 矛盾 which is the character for spear and then the character for shield.

If an immovable object is in the path of an unstoppable force, what will happen when they meet?

The unstoppable force would reflect from the immovable object, thus not stopping and continue its eternal movement. This would also mean that the immovable object would not move at all.

The result is a gigantic pile of [censored]. Allow me to explain.

1. Samuel L. Jackson is best described as an unstoppable force. He is awesome, and virtually every movie he is in is incredible. He just doesn't stop.

2. Hayden Christensen is best described as an immovable object. Somehow, in spite of how bad he is, he continues to get roles in movies. He is just there, yet nobody knows why.

3. In movies where the aforementioned two actors appear together (e.g. Episode II, Episode III, Jumper), the movie is a complete catastrophe. It is awful, best described as a gigantic pile of [censored].

P.S. Episode III wasn't terrible, but still wasn't very good :P.

This made me laugh. I quite enjoyed Episode II and III and Jumper. But I love Star Wars and found Jumper to be a pretty good movie albeit completely pointless and mindless. Of course, their is no accounting for taste I guess.

Well an immovable object would have infinite mass and an unstoppable force would have infinite energy. And since mass is also energy the result would be e∞ + e∞ which would equal e∞. Ofcourse objects and forces with infinite energy simply don't/can't exist so the whole question becomes meaningless before it's even half finished. Even if they could, it would be that much more impossible for them to exist in the same universe as one would saturate the universe leaving no room for the other.

nothing is unstoppable and nothing is immovable... so this question doesn't even exist!

I was going to leave this alone but I just came up with a different spin on the whole matter.

No matter how you anolyze the question you will eventually come to the conclusion that this is an impossible situation. So basically you could reword the question to be "What happens in an impossible situation?". And the answer would simply be "The impossible."

In fact any answer you give would be completely plausible. You could say your shoes turn pink and that would be just as likely as any other answer. If it sounds impossible it's because it is. It's probably the only situation where something could be impossible and possible at the same time because it's only applicable to situations that are impossible. The situation doesn't exist. It's an idea we came up with. So only we can give it an answer. And that answer is whatever suits you.

Since they counter act each other couldn't you just go pus the unstoppable object and move the immovable object.

The unstoppable force stops and the immovable object moves.
I like this solution. They would just Freaky Friday each other.
