Impossible to play a pure Necromancer

Can you animate skeletons ?

Yes and no. Not one you've killed, but some of them that are lying around can be animated. I'm pretty sure you can animate the skellie in Bleak Falls Barrow just before the waterfall pit.

How come people are saying you can't raise skeletons. I could have sworn when I first started the game that I was animating skeletons I found in dungeons.

Yeah, see, for every person I see saying that magic is gimped, I run across another person who has some super-build.

Hell, the OP is claiming destruction is so powerful that he needs neither healing nor protective Restoration or Alteration spells, nor Alchemy to heal himself because he just never gets hit! And yet others have complained, since the very beginning, that Destruction is overall the runt of the magic litter.

I think some people are just better at using some forms of magic than others.

But... you... can't... just... use... one... skill... or school of magic.

Do you wear armor?

At least two.

Do you use potions?

Thats three.

Do you wear enchanted gear?

Thats four.

Out of potions and have to use heal?

Thats five.

Lost and need a little guidance with Clairvoyance?

Thats six.

Regardless of where you put your points, you cannot... CANNOT use one single skill/school of magic. Its just not possible.

Wait, really? I thought somebody was saying only freshly-dead corpses could be reanimated, but not the random, never-seen-them-move skeletons in dungeons.

The skeletons you can animate really stink though. The ones I raised just attack with their hands and die really fast.
Animated dead shouldn't be so fragile. They aren't as dependent on things that living beings are. It makes no sense that the skeletons die so fast.

Good point but some of us who dont try to go pure necromancer and do use other things are still complaining about the necromancer spells available.

Freshly dead corpses of the living. If an undead was butchered that bad that they can't continue their unlife, it's obvious that their body is not in a state to be re-reanimated...

The most important is for the body to be well-preserved enough...

It is an oversight that you can't reanimate full skeletons you find in dungeons, I give you that. Any other argument you are making is not viable!

You can. I've done it. Not all skeletons, but many.

A pure necromancer raises the dead, steals life, instills fear and rage, controls demons, uses poison and disease.

You can play a "pure necromancer", but it requires conjuration, alchemy, illusion and maybe a taste of destruction and a blade.

Umm, you could summon zombies and seletons out of nowhere in Oblivion...

What's the point of doing that when they're so damn weak? I recently started playing on master level and still see no effect on the level. I agree with the OP in this. Being a pure Necromancer is almost impossible to do when it comes to summoning dead people to fight for your side. I tried summoning dead bodies from 100 perk level Conjuration and I still get an error telling me that the body is too powerful to summon up.

Well then what is the point of necromancy if you can't purely rely on it?

Necromancy seems useless if you can just summon atronachs or use skills like fury to have others fight for you.

Necromancy is useless then?

You can be a pure archer (only use bows) in the game.

You can be a pure warrior (only use 1 type of weapon).

You can be a pure destruction mage (Thunder, fire, or ice) I've done it.

But not a pure necromancer. Nice
Necromancer y definition means someone that revives the dead, if there is no dead to revive, then how would you do this? Yeah, maybe they could allow you to revive bodies from graveyards, but you cant revive bodies from nothing, you need corpses, you must realize this. If not, sithis have mercy on your soul.

You know what would be neat. If animated undead get a powerful health regen bonus and physical armour buff.
I probably feel that would be cool because in a game I like called Guild Wars, the undead minions were awesome meat shields. lol

Well, I can see the argument that the undead individually be fairly weak - at least most sorts. In and of itself, a skeleton is far more fragile than a skeleton wrapped in muscle, and so it would take less hitting to smash a skeleton than a body. That being said, higher-level Necromancy spells could include something to strengthen the undead bodies, whether skeletons, zombies or what have you.

When i tried it said that the giant was too powerful for my spell, but it should be possible.I think.

I will find out at a higher level i guess.

Edit: According to most people, you cannot reanimate them.
