Interview With Creative Director Paul Sage

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:13 pm

I never thought about TES the way you are describing. I avoid killing people, usually my chars are reluctant hero type of guys (hunters, shy mages..). But thats why TES games are so great, lots of ways to playing it.

You never killed bandits/necromancers or any of the "evil" character through the storys in TES games ? Those ARE people too, they had a life of some type just like anyone living in the citys, and they are a good representation of pvp in an online setting. from your view they were just bandits or cultists, but from their view YOUR the bandit/cultist, loosly speaking.

As for the main topic, the interview, im looking forward to this even more, its not what many expected but im still excited for it.

I love 3 faction PvP over a big goal. Should keep things alive.

Very nice. I was cautiously optimistic before, but now I think I can switch into full blown optimist mode.

Actually I try to avoid this kind of quests when possible...but this is getting off topic, so nvm.

*Dramatic sigh* It's nice to see that everyone's finally inching away from the "Whining and raging" stage of the wait to release.. :)

This may stay a nice community for at least a little while longer. but after release there will be mixed feelings about it such as  and  and :celebration: but don't forget the :flamethrower: which leads to this. :banghead: :wallbash:

I'm still optimistic about this, but, for me at least, TES is not about being the 'hero'. I hate being called a hero.

Weird to see a online game based on TES focusing on PVP...I always thought of TES like the temple of roleplay.

Not sure why people think PvP and RP have to be mutually exclusive. Its the main reason why so many games end up having a PvP RP server at some point, because there are plenty of RPers out there that love to PvP too.

Yeah, I liked his response when it came to why there was PVP when there was none in other TES titles- basically that TES has always been single player, but if it had been multiplayer there would always have been PVP. :)

The Game Informer article left me a little unexcited and disappointed, but this video has got me a little more into it. I think experiencing the elder scrolls and it's lore in a different genre or medium will be interesting, so I'll definitely try it out.

Exactly. People are too quick to jump the gun. While we know a little more today about the game than a day ago, we still know little to nothing about it. Give it a few more months before hopping on/off the bandwagon.

There seems to be always someone around like that. Reminds me of Dragonborn1 after Skyrim's announcement. :P

What I found interesting after watching the interview a second time was that Bethesda told them to make their own game, not something that follows TES to the letter. It seems the BGS team was involved a bit in this after all, and that TESO has their blessing.

RP + PvP (that means justified and roleplayed confrontation with your enemies) sounds REALLY cool to me. The perfect mix. And if you just want to RP and not to fight... stay on the roads and try not leave the cities! Out there is always dangerous.

A lot of the issues with the game and it's immersion/design could easily be solved like this: Instanced worlds.

Let's face it. Many people would love to see all of Tamriel again, but the fact remains that most don't want annoying players and spammers in their game world to ruin the experience. They want friends only. If you offer instanced worlds, where only you and those you choose can enter, that makes a lot of people happy. You adventure with who you want, no one else can barge in and ruin your day, and if something comes up, you won't feel like you've missed much of anything major.

Save the "Battle for the Throne" idea for the encapsulated world and some PVP.

Makes me feel a lot more confident about the game. And they've finally put a stop to the 'ZOMG Y U NO FOLLOW LORE!' complaints. Well done Zenimax!

To be honest, that video cannot disclose anything about the game. Sure, Paul is excited and passionate about his work (but, hey, who woudn't be?), but still that's not a guarantee that the game will 'feel' like a TES game as he says.
For example, exploration would require a tremendous amount of work in the game world to be meaningful and, judging by the leaked shots, that doesn't seem to be the case. Also, I cannot stress it enough, the graphics are way too stylized to provide an environment similar to that of a TES game.
sure, the game is still at least 1 year away from release and a lot can change in the graphics and style, but until we see an actual change in direction i'll remain a skeptic.
I'm all for a good TESO MMO game, but TES must be an actual ingredient in it.

Well lets be realistic, they werne't going to develope new quests for end game every week. That would seem impossible.

Realistic? Seems more like the typicall braindamage that WoW does to its users. For example believing "there is no other endgame than heroic/raid-grind and pvp".

Laughable!

Not everyone.

This sourpuss old fart, still hanging around here for no reason, is STILL annoyed at some of design decisions they have made that is 99% likely to be present in the release and a 100% deal-breaker for me.

I am fairly certain GW2 will continue to have my attention since it will be new enough that I would have not exhaust it's contents, old enough that I would have invested significant time and similar enough that there is no incentive to switch.

I enjoyed that interview. He's obviously very passionate about the game, and is very aware of TES lore. Hopefully they can pull this off :)
