Jun Long and his arrogant wife

Post » Sat Jan 09, 2016 12:18 am

Marcy and Jun Long are happy in my town and rarely make snitty remarks to my character now. Of course, I am nice to my settlers and have fixed up houses for them, gave them plenty of water and things to do (they seem to enjoy tending crops and scavenging) and even set up a bar for them to hang out at together in the evenings. Mama Murphy is free from her jet addiction and just reminds my character every so often. Now they often compliment the town and seem to really like being there.

I keep assuming that as the happiness of the settlement increases they'll be happier. Still waiting.

She's not arrogant, she's just a [censored] :)

Well, then they shouldn't repeat the same lines over and over if am using crafting bench near them, walk by them, or sprint by them with fingers in my ears screaming "I DON'T WANT TO TALK TO ANY OF YOU!".

Well, at least they no longer follow me home to inform me how they used to be an adventurer like me, until they took an arrow in the knee :lmao:

Awesome idea, but it won't work... I built a maximum security cell around Connie Abernathy and she was out of it the very next time I went there... Auto-spawns.... Ugg...

Well, she's complaining to someone who just had their spouse shot in the face in front of from and their child kidnapped by the killers.

Does the player complain endlessly to anyone who will listen? No. They go out and get [censored] done.

Once you join the minutemen general or not, Preston is no longer available as a companion until the castle is taken.

does anyone know a way to at least transfer the husband and wife from hell to some remote settlement? I haven't been able to command them to move.

Jun and marcy are child's play. Try preston after you blow up the institute, ohh it just makes you wish for the sweet comfort of death.

Thank God for mods.... now we can finally shut the couple from hell up

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2742/?tab=4&&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Ffallout4%2Fajax%2Fcomments%2F%3Fmod_id%3D2742%26page%3D1%26sort%3DDESC%26pid%3D0%26thread_id%3D3452595&pUp=1

Update\' don't shut them up completely, they still have lots to [censored] about and after mama murphy ODs you get a rash of [censored] from marcy. So, unfortunately this mod does not do the trick. Now I just have to make them non-essential and kill them

Because they both act like they're the only ones EVER who had suffered terribly. You don't even need to look far to see who else had suffered and worst.

? Our character saw the world they grew up in literally blow up within the span of seconds, got tricked to being frozen in an ice box, watched the spouse murdered and child taken away.

? Cait is a drugged out junkie who was SOLD INTO SLAVERY BY HER PARENTS, spent years being made to do God knows what, murdered her parents, then spent the rest of the time getting drugged up and hoping the raiders from the Combat Zone would beat her to death to end her pain.

? Nick Valentine is a Synth with the memories and feelings of a long-dead pre-War cop. Everything he does, everything he feels he can attribute to a long dead citizen of the old world. Oh, and he gets to relive a horrible memory of the death of some woman he himself had never bet, but was the fiancee of aforesaid pre-War cop.

? Codsworth had to spend 210 years alone in the blasted out remains of the old neighborhood with no one to talk to or serve, endlessly scrubbing at floors and the car that will never get cleaned.

I'm sorry, but others have suffered worst than the Longs. If I were Jun, I would've manned up, grown a pair and helped in any way I could without complaint. After all, others have suffered worst. Wouldn't minimize my own pain, no, but others have suffered worst. Actually, Cait wins the golden trophy for the most tragic sob story ever in the game. If anyone deserves to sit around and complain about life, it's her but you don't see her doing that, now do you?

Welcome to the human race. You probably didn't notice on the way in as you were likely distracted by the marvels of the universe and the epic adventure that is finding your place in it but most of us are self centered, ego maniacs that care more about our own wants and needs than the state of society as a whole. Knowing that someone else you don't give a rats ass about has greater pain than your own doesn't magically make yours go away.

I don't mind Marcy. She lost her kid and her husband and got a brand new, constantly crying baby in return. I'd be pissed off too.

I like Preston and don't see why everyone hate him so much. But the rest of the Minute Man I can do without.

It's got nothing to do with being nice. It's the old Bethesda plague of every NPC repeating one or two one liners ad nauseum. You walk past them and they shoot. Made me deviate from my chosen path in Skyrim and makes me deviate now whenever I see Marcy or Jon Lun on the horizon.

I watched my spouse get murdered, and my baby kidnapped, and I formed an army and destroyed a powerhouse plaguing the commonwealth for centuries. Please tell me more about their pain.

Humanizing them by making them flawed, great. Making them incurably flawed, okay. Making them ungrateful and spiteful, whatever. Making them utterly incompetent in every meaningful way, meh. Making them too irresponsible to stick to tasks that you assign them, well, that's annoying, just don't put them on guard duty or artillery duty. Making them bang incessantly on the house when it achieves literally nothing...well....mental illness is a serious thing.

That's all justifiable storytelling, but then going on to flag them as unmovable and immortal was a pretty sadistic move on the part of the Devs. If I could, I'd just turn them into provisioners.

I also don't have a problem hearing them all the time because I've given them and all the rest of my settlers tasks to do during the day, a bar for them to visit in the evening (which I can avoid if I don't feel like being social...they *always* go there) and have them assigned to beds that are not near my own. Sure, I do hear them once in a while, but I'm not always bumping into them to the point of it driving me crazy.

As for those making comments of what they would do, and how they would "man up" and not be babies, etc. if they lost a child, I don't think they really know what they would do or how they would behave in such a situation unless it has actually happened to them. It's easy to tell people to quit their whining when they haven't been in their shoes. The Sole Survivor might end up the same way emotionally concerning what happened to her if she didn't have an actual reason (Shaun) to keep going.

Well, yes. What an excellent opportunity to elaborate. To turn it into some quest. I guess what's bothering people the most about the original five is them offering nothing new, once they're settled. The "I work for Belaphor at the general goods store" scratched disk doesn't get any more emotional if it's about a dead child. It's still a broken record.

I actually agree about the broken record aspect and would have preferred NPCs use different methods of interacting with each other and our characters, but all the NPCs all over the game do it and not just the Longs.

God (internet+console) smiled on my avatar Roger and Marcy (with a fresh backstab wound) now rests in a concrete grave. Ahhhh, the beautiful silence.

They're at it since Morrowind. The only difference being that back then NPCs didn't run their traps half as much as they do now. And, quite frankly, I don't understand it. Why not make them say their piece once and then revert to some kind of standard greeting without repeating one line over and over.

It's also, that with Sanctuary being the first hub, many players kind of turn it into their main base and home. So you're exposed to Marcy and Jon more often than you are to any other NPC you can possibly meet. Sanctuary is an ideal spot for settling down, since it's rather large and offers ample building opportunities.
