Jun Long and his arrogant wife

I agree with both points of view.

I understand that they're miserable. Honestly, Marcy doesn't annoy me because she's suually out of sight. Jun, however, is a whiny pissant of a manchild who has a homing beacon locked onto me at all times on all characters. No matter where in Sanctuary I am, Jun finds his way to me.

They provide no work, they just sit there and whine about how bad life is for them (it really isn't if you compare it to the likes of Cait, they got off easy.) Look, I get it that losing three of your children to vicious killers is breaking, but this is the Wasteland. They presumably grew up knowing that this was a literal dog-eat-dog world and sitting there whining about your life was a surefire way of getting killed. And a smart person certainly knows not to pester that walking, talking armory of death. Especially when said armory was kind enough to give them a home and built that home for them.

Oh, they do work. Marcy works the fields annd Jon is Brahmin droppings collector. Wearing a pink dress and a minigun. As has been said, Marcy can be easily avoided. It's not that easy with Jon, since he seems to come equipped wiith a player radar to deliver his oneliner whenever you're in shouting distance.

I just waited for a while when Marcy was alone, and i build 4 walls around her on the field, put a roof on it, never heard of here again.

She's only grumbled at me once. I haven't yet experienced more than one word so she hasn't been annoying for me.
In my current game I popped 2 sleeping bags down the end of the street and 2 small carrot plantations. I assigned the sleeping bags to them and a plantation each. They stick to that end of the settlement and I haven't heard anything from them since.
I don't spend much time in Sanctuary anyway.

I believe that the distaste stems primarily from the fact that Marcy just doesn't rattle on the same lines endlessly, but rather that pretty much EVERYTHING she says is caustic and abrasive. "I'll stop complaining when there's nothing left to complain about!" That's a guarantee of endless complaints because there is always something that is less than perfect. Even her ONE not-derogatory line is still a left-handed slap: "This place is still a hole, but it's not all bad." (Or something of the sort.) Morose Jun Long would probably be perceived as less annoying if it wasn't for the fact that he comes as part of the Long family set.

Not really. My main problem is the old Bethesda sickness of making NPCs repeat one or two lines over and over whenver the PC is in shouting distance. As I previously said, it's not any less annoying with Sturges, rambling on about being able to fix anything. It's even worse with Vault Tec Rep, since when you assign him to the one job he's good at, you have to go through the recruiting dialogue everytime you want to buy something.

That's actually taking the cake, since you have to spend nearly a minute going through the same motions whenever you want to browse his shop or trade with him.

I wonder why it's so hard to give their exposition just once and then revert to some standard greeting and I certainly can't imagine any player actually enjoying this feature.

You are too much. Nothing gives anyone the right to be a jerk to me unless I did something directly to them. If they are, I will give in back worse then I get it, trust me, and that's not video games, that's real.

If it were an option, I would tell Marcy to shut up or get out. if she doesn't like it, we can fight it out and see how that goes. Complaining when there's a reason is ok, as long as its constructive to make things better. (I complain about how easy this game is non stop, because I want it to be better. I also spend hours upon hours modding it to make it better) Simply being a sour nasty miserable person to be around at all times, isn't ok.

I wouldn't mind the repetitive dialogue so much if they were actually able to repair the buildings they keep hammering away at. More than once I've arrived at sanctuary to find the Longs, Mama Murphy and Sturges all hammering the same building but nothing ever changes, plus the sound of multiple hammers is annoying as hell too.

I was kinda dissapointed that his son's dissapearance never turned into a personal quest for him. I felt sorry for the guy in start, but just like everyone else said already, any kind of potential character development got stagnated and ruined with their complete uselessness after the concord's rescue is over.

Jun and Marcy lost their child, they've been going through a large amount of stress ever since Quincy fell. Marcy is paranoid to allow anyone to help them because well, one of the reasons Quincy fell was because Quincy trusted a turncoat Minuteman that became a prominent member of the Gunner and had to watch her son die from a bullet wound because of this whereas Jun went the other route, he became a depressed mess that frankly shows suicidal tendencies and is constantly viewing himself as useless and worthless.

They aren't annoying, rather they're a good example of what large amounts of stress, sadness and grief can turn a person into. We're introduced to what the wasteland can do to someone and it's a good example of why things need to change.

I don't mind Jun Long. He's grieving. I give him his space. Marcy on the other hand. I can't even walk down the street without her threatening me not to tell people about this place from 6 feet away!

I do find it irritating when he pulls out "you better keep you mouth shut about this place"

THIS place? This veritable promised land I delivered you I after rescued you? This fresh water pumping, crop growing, fortress I built from scratch?

Those type of people are annoying. And unlike in real life these two don't change or evolve in any way so there's nothing you can do. You can't help them through their grief and you can't even kill them. All you can do is listen to them complain non-stop.

simple fix for both of them. In the house towards the back(facing the big tree on the right). Plant something enough for both of them. make sure they have beds and assign them both to the beds. Once you've done that they won't leave that area. You can put up a fence to keep them in or whatever you want. Same goes for mama murphy.

They are, if they behave like broken records. The one you were quoting said as much. It's a game and both of them have a story that could have been elaborated on. But it's a Bethesda game and so you get "I work for Belaphor at the general goods store" instead of being able to do something for them.

All of this has already been said. But we all know it's not just them. It's Vault Tec and Sheffield too. Since to be able to interact with them, you have to go through all of the recruiting dialogue over and over again. Which, as I already said, is extremely tiresome with Vault Tec being an expert trader.

People who aren't willing to change/get help, would rather spill their misery on others because "If I can't be happy, no one gets to be happy" then they are annoying. Worst part is, we can't HELP them get help. It's not an option for us.

With the Longs, I expected that there would eventually be a quest where we helped them cope by tracking down the raider group responsible for their sons' deaths and slaughter them. That's kind of par the course when dealing with NPCs with troubled pasts in Bethesda games: "Track down the people/person responsible and murder the [censored] out of them." But no, instead they wander around moping and when they're close to me, they give the same old spiel of "I'll stop complaining when there's nothing to complain about!"/"I'm just so...hurting! I'm so miserable...!!"

Especially when they're surrounded by people who've suffered worst. It doesn't negate their pain, no, but they're not the only ones who've suffered a great loss. Hell, we're PLAYING a character who suffered a horrendous loss (world blew up, spouse murdered, son abducted) yet he/she isn't sitting around feeling sorry for him/herself.

It's not even those two, it's folks like Vault Tech Guy or Sheffield. We have to hear them say the same tired lines over and over again. I get it, Vault Tech Guy, you're happy we're here "preparing for the future!". I get it, Sheffield, you're happy I gave you that nuka-cola and you're not going to drink liquor anymore because your liver's all shot up.

JUST PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF THE IRRADIATED GODS, SHUT THE HELL UP!!

I've heard her say that a few times, but never him.

I keep hoping that more will open up with them like with Mama Murphy, but they seem to not really change much.

If you don't like the Long couple being grumpy and depressed all the time, I would suggest *not* killing Mama Murphy with chems. It will make the Longs even *more* unhappy and depressed than before. If you keep your settlement in general happy and productive, and Mama Murphy off jet, then you will hear many more positive comments from them. Yes, you still get the annoying "repeat the same phrases over and over unto Oblivion" issue that happens with *all* NPCs, but then the Longs aren't any worse than anyone else at that point.
