And not everyone has that money to spend on a TV. But we're getting off topic here now. If you want to continue discussing it, I'd be more than happy to do so via PM.

Then again, the OP's request has been pretty much solved. So... I guess I'll just go. Like I said, I'm available via PM if you so wish. I love a good discussion.
I stopped understanding your argument a post ago.

That's exactly how I felt with World of Warcraft, and Skyrim's controls reminds me of that painful experience.

Well, in the end if you prefer joypads for such games then good for you, just don't expect use people who know the deal to agree. :P

same here, i tried to use a pad playing gears of war on my sister's xbox 360 and it wasn't simple for me...i'm to much used to keyboard+mouse hehe
the only game i would love to buy a 360 Pad is Dirt 3  it's hard do do the Gimkhana using arrow keys lol

When you say "pad" are you talking about the "gamming pad" or the regular controller? ( for 360 )

I use a after market controller my hubby bought for me, it's slightly heavier and larger than the "regular" controller but still configured the same way.

I'm actually wondering if the "game pad" has more button's or hot key's ....options for different things.

I know the pc control's do.

I'm not following. My TV has the maximum commercially available screen resolution. Also, your continuous whining about controller auto-aiming is irrelevant here. There is no such thing for Skyrim.
Not understanding his point, he seems to be pretending the Xbox gamepad auto aims in Skyrim because he does not like like the controller that is what I am getting from hix post anyways, to each his own people like different things.

I use a mouse + a Razer Nostromo N52 gaming device.

What the heck!?! That thing looks crazy! I wonder if you can find it physically in stores to give it a test run? I am intrigued.

IMO, the controller interface (once you get used to it) is as fluid a system of movement as is possible via an input device.... heres what i suggest for acclimating yourself to the interface: stand still and map the landscape around you with the view axis. everything you do with a controller is centered around that function. keep the center of your field of view on a hawk for a few minutes at a time. Then once you get looking around second nature THEN start actual movement.

the thing with these kinds of "learning" processes is handing over control to your subconcious.

You cannot get the kind of precision on a thumbstick that you can on a mouse. It`s simple, plain logic and I`ve also seen the evidence as a friend I know uses the controller. Don`t let anyone tell you they can.

You cannot make such definitive statements based on the inadequacies of one person. I have seen people using a controller place shots as accurately as anyone with a mouse and just as fast. It is the user that is at fault, not the controller. It only takes watching videos of better players to realize this.

Ahhh, that is a mod. Calling it a program is just odd to hear so I suppose there lied the confusion by program I assume you mean the mod manager then?

no.. its a program. You use it to edit the stock controlmap.txt file in the skyrim\data\interface\controls\pc\ folder

if you dont have those folders.. create them, and move the controlmap.txt file from the downloaded zipfile to that location. Then use the accompanying "program" to edit it to your liking instead of trying to decipher the file visually.

the readme explains it well enough.

What you put right there is a better description than the entire readme.

The mouse does give more control. There is no way to dispute that. However WASD is very limiting and the left anolog stick accompanied with the right stick gives you enough control to just about have nearly the same control as the mouse. You move yourself and your sights to get your shot. They both have limitations and both have strengths.

Aye! Give it a whirl, I'll bet you'll like it.

If you're in the States, look up http://www.frys.com/ (used to be outpost.com)... that's where I found mine. And even if you're not in the US, you can still order it from them because I'm sure they'll send it overseas to you. I must warn everyone who's thinking about getting a Nostromo: they're a little awkward to get used to.

It took me almost a month using the Nostromo before I completely weened myself off the keyboard... and no, it doesn't come in a right-handed version for left-handed players.

You can get the same or similar setup on gaming specific keyboards. Takes a week or two to get used to it, but once you do it is a breeze to use.

True, but the slighty lower accuracy is more than made up for by variable movement, that's much more important to me. Do mouse/keyboard users really only have one sneak speed?, either not moving or top speed sneak?, sneaking must feel horrible like that not being able to adjust your speed on the fly.

I could get used to a keyboard eventually, but it would have to be a proper gaming one, not a chunky of fashioned one with massive keys.

I kind of like that it's not instant precision with the anologue stick, you can still be very accurate with a pad aiming but there is always a chance you'll miss which is how it should be when your shooting an arrow from a hundred metres away, isn't archery a bit easy with a mouse when you can put every shot exactly where you want it everytime?.

The mouse is an extension of your hand and you can adjust the sensitivity on the fly. As for sneaking, it depends on the game, The Witcher 2 has two speeds so if you want to walk you just hold down Ctrl.

(( I'm too old to have dexterous enough thumbs, it's todays generation. Same goes with texting, call me old fashioned, I prefer mouse and keys. ))
Sounds like you must be my age (late 60s). However, I love MVP Baseball on the console. Would hate it with keyboard/mouse

I`ve got Oblivion on the PS3 and on the PC and I`m nowhere near as good with a controller on the PS3-It`s just awkward(even though I`ve played MANY hours with both machines)(or maybe my sofa isn`t that comfotable?)!PC magazines talk about the mouses days being numbered-Please don`t let that ever happen!

I've used both M+K and controllers (Playstation style) for years. But I generally only use each for certain types of games. Like.... RTS, FPS, ARPG, WRPG - that's mouse & keyboard. Platformers, action, racing, sports, JRPG.... controller.

Personally, I'm completely unable to get accurate aim (FPS-style) with a controller. Games like Ratchet & Clank, where there's both lock-on aiming and goofy AoE weapons? Sure, controller is fine. But I can't hit the broad side of a barn in games like Resistance or Uncharted. Which has kept me from trying a number of the apparently "great" games on my PS3. :sadvaultboy:

For the life of me, I can't comprehend why a PC gamer would go with a standard console-type controller. Won't you miss out on mapping the hotkeys? Having less than eight programmed hotkeys would drive me insane! To each his (or her) own, I guess.

I use a mouse + a Razer Nostromo N52 gaming device. I've been using the Nostromo series since 2004 and I've never looked back at console controllers nor keyboards since the switch.

Simple, controllers are simple to use, effective, and you don't need to remember where all the buttons are when switching game to game.
Also, if you set up the controller correctly, there is NO negatives to it. My controller is as accurate as I am with a mouse (more so even cos I'm just that used to xbox controller), I also have all 8 hotkeys, I have all the controls set up so everything is easy and nice to use.
That's why a PC gamer uses a "standard" controller. Although I'd rather use the term standard on mouse and keyboard.

Really, there is no better equipment, simply better set up vs left as default.

So that mod is used to reconfigure the XBOX 360 controller for the PC? Or other gaming pads? Or both? I would like to try it.

Hmm. I was just thinking to myself this morning that I actually enjoy this forum over many of the others I've visited for various games since there seems to be no "elitism" between platforms. Until I found this thread. It's impossible for some people to just let others enjoy what they have. They, for some reason, have to feel better about themselves and put others down when they don't agree.

Hell of a first post if I may say so.

okay, i don't want to hijack a thread but there are too many on here to start a new one for a similar issue.

So I remembered I have a logotech controller I bought for Ob but couldn't get the 'look' function to work. So I plugged it in with Skyrim and at first it was just auto running to the left and when i tried to move it has all this weird mapping and i couldn't control it at all. so i closed, looked at my mapping in the logotech menu and it isn't perfect but seems fine enough. so i restarted and now the controller does nothing at all. so how do i get this thing to work?
