Just got a controller for PC...any tips would be helpful

I use Pad and Mouse combo, best of both worlds that way. ;)
anologue movement control with mouse accuracy, although with games like Skyrim I will just use purely Joypad and sit with my feet up while playing.

Hmm. I was just thinking to myself this morning that I actually enjoy this forum over many of the others I've visited for various games since there seems to be no "elitism" between platforms. Until I found this thread. It's impossible for some people to just let others enjoy what they have. They, for some reason, have to feel better about themselves and put others down when they don't agree.

Hell of a first post if I may say so.

Nah this is more of a discussion than an elitism thread. I don't sense any real arguing going on here, just people making points. There's some truth in all of it for each of us. However my personal feeling is that people should never make difinitive statements about something based on nothing more than their own personal preferences. For instance I used to think the mouse was far superior to the controller. Now I watch my son play MW3 on the PS3 and he is constantly getting head shots and pinpointing people every bit as quick as I ever could with my mouse. He doesn't like using the mouse. He's comfortable with the controller and is extremely accurate with it. His coordination is so good with it that he keeps the look speed maxxed out on 10 and still has the control to follow someone as they are running and snipe them. It changed my whole view point on which controller is better. I now see that is down to who's playing and nothing to do with what I percieve as being the best. My son grew up with the controller in his hand. To him it's just as much an extension to his arm as the mouse is to mine.

When Skyrim first came out i did use my 360 controller but after taking a break and coming back i've been using my M/K and find it so much easier to use then the controller, also i personally found the menu's extremely frustrating with a controller (found it too easy to quit a menu) but now that i'm using SkyUI and M/K i'm having no problems.

True, but the slighty lower accuracy is more than made up for by variable movement, that's much more important to me. Do mouse/keyboard users really only have one sneak speed?, either not moving or top speed sneak?, sneaking must feel horrible like that not being able to adjust your speed on the fly.

(( There are two sneak speeds, we have slow and fast. I would like to be able to vary this, but I'll take the loss over being able to aim properly "IMO" ))

That's better than stopped or fast though lol.

I guess I'm just too old to change from a pad now, I prefer playing with 360 over ps3 as I love firing spells or whatever with the triggers, I couldn't sit there clicking a mouse button (too many connotations of work with a mouse - if I'm using a mouse then I'm working not gaming).

Plus your always having to move the mouse about aren't you, us gamers are a lazy bunch, it's more than enough effort just moving my thumbs and fingers on the pad no way am I moving the whole mouse about then repositioning it lol.
